I would guess that the mighty Thames is just too warm for any amount of time out of the water. But again, just a guess based on the info you provided. HH

Try these about 50 ft in front of your bait. http://www.offshoretackle.com/snapweights.html HH

I recognize that place! LOL (Last year, Jason suggested Golden Eagle camp for my family vacation and we had a great time!) My kids keep asking me when are we going back to the cottage with the BIG water slide? So, obviuosly, the kids liked it, so did I, but my wife just wasn't up for the 8+ hour drive! Funny, but I didn't catch one pike last year! Pickereyes and smallies were our victims! Thanks for renewing my memories and taking the time to write it up! HH

As mentioned, for size, trolling suspended fish will almost always net you bigger fish. And trolling can be successful any time of day. It also allows you to cover more water and tends to target active agressive fish. Remember to keep you baits above the suspended fish as they will come up for a bait trolled, but in general, not down. As far as bait size goes, try and match the hatch so to speak, byt again, for bigger fish, use bigger lures. HH

I've found that a good knife, applied right between their eyes, slows them down a lot! HH

Do you wear a life jacket while fishing
Headhunter replied to knightfisher's topic in General Discussion
After reading all this and again, some of our members comments, I am starting to wonder where I have to line up to get my "government chip" installed in my head so the "authorities" can simply scan my skull and automatically issue a fine. Sure would save all that wallet removal time and in turn, save me from falling over board removing it from my pocket. No one's arguing the merit of PFD's, but every little step the "authorities" take, to protect us, removes our freedoms. You have to pick yer battles and I get the sense here that this is a battle many folks are ready to fight! HH -
What a great report! You have connected with your daughter and she's got the bug! Congrats... I'm sure your one proud Dad! HH

Do you wear a life jacket while fishing

Amen Bernie and TJ, amen! For the life of me, I can't understand the mentality of some folks. They act like they are not capable of making a sensible decision in their life, without the government providing "guidance". The only thing we need more of, is less government! HH -

Well, if they create a system where by you are fined for not having a PFD on, then it's a tax grab. If instead, when they create a system of enforcement where by you are told to get off the water, with no monetary repercussions, then you have an inforcement issue, not a "tax grab". HH -

Manditory wearing of PFD's will amount to nothing more than yet another government tax grab. I can see it now, your trolling around on Quinte in the fall and get "pulled over" for the 3rd time that day, because the OPP spotted someone on the boat that didn't have their PFD on. Now, this will happen, shortly after the first and 2nd pullover; checking licenses and then checking saftey equipment. And don't try and tell me that law enforcement isn't above hiding in the weeds, waiting for you to take your PFD off and nailing you for a $100.00 plus fine. This is typical knee jerk reaction to some rather unfortunate incidents that have taken place this summer... but really, is this much different than any other summer? If you HAVE to legislate, why not make it a requirement that anyone under the age of 16 must wear a PFD when on a vessle? At 16, many can't even spell common sense! That would appease, for the time being, those calling for legislation... until next summer when the whole thing is regretfully, repeated. Less government, more common sense is the answer if you ask me... and those without common sense, well they'll either get it or pay the price for having not taken an interest in their surroundings. It aint all a bowl of cherries, now is it! HH -
"The Coves" are stuffed full of CArp, Suckers, Catfish and uhmm... Largies! I have a buddy who owns a place that backs on to the coves. Carp are hrd to get, very spookey in the Coves. Could never get them to bite. Best bet for CArp, as Beats mentioned is Greenway Park. Start at the train bridge and work you way down stream, until you hit the small creek which empties the Coves into the Thames. Actually, that whole stretch of river down stream all along up to the Greenway Break wall is great for Carp. And the beauty of the Tahmes is that you never really know what's gonna bite your line! HH

Canadian Lancaster Bomber visits North Bay

I've seen and heard it flying over T.O. around the air show dates. It still gives me shivers to hear those engines roar! Nothing else sounds like that! Thanks for the pics! HH -
A new little face to stare up at Gramps, asking, please take me fishing! Doesn't get much better! Congrats to all! HH

What Rico said and I'll add, bring some penicillan! HH

I have a long standing fear of triangles, so for me, I'd have to say no. Joking aside, what Misfish said seems to me to be the first question I would be asking myself. It aint all about you any more. HH

Trailering 15' bass boat with 2006 Jetta?
Headhunter replied to MSBruno's topic in General Discussion
Possible solution... never go fishing without taking Uncle Buck with you! That way, when your pulling the boat out of the water, you cou ask him nicely to lay across the hood of the Jetta, to hold the front wheels down! (I only used UB as an example as he's the largest OFNer I've seen) I'd be pretty darn sure I'm covered by insurance, before it left my driveway! HH -
Really great report bud! No wonder it took you this long! LOL Lemon drops are "pallete cleaners" ! I was introduced to them a few years back and have been introducing them to OFC'ers since. Pretty simple, but very tasty: - Vodka... in the freezer -cut a lemon into wedges -roll lemon wedge in sugar -shoot the vodka and bite into the lemon... and there you go! I highly recommend them for situations where you don't have a lot of space for things like BEER! Effective and well, rather tasty! HH

TC10Z... you caught an Atlantic! Congrats! Does anyone know if $Rama sells marshmellows?! HH

Trailering 15' bass boat with 2006 Jetta?
Headhunter replied to MSBruno's topic in General Discussion
Oh my... it's finally happened, I find myself agreeing with GDC! Next thing yah know, dogs and cats will be living together in harmony, world peace is just around the corner and the Stay Puffed Marshmellow Man is knocking at my door! On topic, as mentioned, it will probably pull it, but I'd be puckered in the lower unit should I have to stop it quickly! I guess it all really comes down to how much risk your willing to take on. Myself, no fish is worth the lives of my family or friends or heck, the other people on the road. You'll do the right thing, you just need some encouragement! HH -

I typically don't have time to watch fishin shows, but if I do, I'll watch Dave. He makes me laugh, he doesn't hide anything and he gets backlashes just like everyone else! Now, admittedly, I'm a SWAG junkie, so when Dave gave Joey a bunch of Tee-shirts for our Quinte GTG, a couple of years ago, he immediately jumped to the front of the line in my mind. Yah, I'm easily bought! LOL But it shows you the character of the guy. He has not forgotten the grass roots nature of our sport and I commend him for that. Keep up the good work Dave! And more importantly, keep smilin! HH

I have two Okuma Convector reels that I regret buying every time I use them. The ati-reverse disengages on it's own, won't engage when I flip the switch and have disengaged while fighting a fish! For another $25, I could have bought another Diawa Sealine, but I guess lesson learned. HH
