  1. Mines just over a year old and I find the same thing... just pump that primer ball until nothing but gas, give'er a pull and start cuttin... I don't think it have to pump it 15 times, but it's likely to be close to 10. HH
  2. It's too bad that we weren't able to connect Chad... more than likely would have motivated me enough to get my sorry butt off the coach... Joey, as you know, we don't go up to Bernie's for the fishin.... HH
  3. This past weekend was our "winter" invitation to spend a few days with Bernie at his cottage on Lake Nipissing. We were short a few of our regular memebers, who were obviously missed. We had made arrangments to depart on Friday morning. FishnSled, myself and CCMT were well aware of the pending Snowmageddon, the good folks at Environment Canada had predicted and sure enough, I got a call from FnS Thursday night, setting up contingency plans for Friday morning. Well as you know, Friday morning was a bust from a snow event perspective, atleast in the GTA. So I made my way to FnS's place, loaded up and we were off to CCMT's house to gather him and his belongings for the trek north. We all kinda giggled at the weather, that is until we got just north of hwy 7, when the snow began. We seemed to be just ahead of the front, that wasn't supposed to move that far north! We arrived in Powasson in time for lunch so we stopped at a local for some eats... the snow was falling pretty good at this point. About an hour or so later, we were at the cottage, being greeted by Bernie. After loading in, we decided to enjoy a few beverages... which turned into an evening of enjoying beverages. The snow kept falling... Saturday morning came and the wind was up, the temps were down and I took up my place on the couch waiting for things to get "better". FnS and CCMT decided to go out... I decided to stay and enjoys Bernie's company as he didn't have a burning desire to get out there either!!! I'll let FnS or CCMT add to the report with their catch! Sunday morning was crisp and clear (-19C plus windchill) and we were all up at the crack of 9:00am!!!! Again, the "urge" to get out there seemed to have stayed at home as we ended up chilling till mid-day, which was time to leave. As always, we had far too many laughs to recall... a two hour jam night with Brown Eyed Girl taking it's place as our "closing number"! LMAO Thanks again to Bernie for the invite, it's one of the things that I always look forward to... See yah in the Spring! I hope that FnS and CCMT will add to this with some pics... heck they might even have one of the one fish they caught!!! LOL HH
  4. I have to agree with both camps here... the goaltending has not been consistant and at times has looked amateur, but what really stands out to me, has been the play of their "better" defense men. Both Lyles and Dion have looked like crap in the last few weeks. I won't comment on the kids' play as, well, they are still kids and have a lot of learning and growing to do... but the established guys have looked aweful... especially Dion. It pains me to say this, but I will continue to believe, much like I have for most of the season, that this team will not make the play-offs. HH
  5. There have been a number of invasive species that have not made their way to Canada or have had their path into this country, slowed by our cold weather winter. Some kind of boring beetle comes to mind. Well, this year our winter will not stop the migration, be it from the south or east or west. There may be a gradual change in our north, specifically the tree line as saplings are able to withstand our “warmer” winter. Those are just a few, off the top of my head… HH
  6. LOL Roy! It's been quite some time since you met my son at the Fishin Show probably 6 years or so ago. He's grown quite a lot since then. Truth be told, I'm much more "concerned" about watching them kick my stuff down the hole!!! Actually you've got me thinkin, a shoulder works almost as well as the head, hitting that area! HH
  7. Thanks again everyone... I'll be sure to do up a report and some pics... I thought of the screws in the boot trick, and may well employ that. And Roy, yes, I will be the "mule" but I also have to pull the toboggan with all our stuff, like rods, auger, and of course snacks! I guess if I have to I can pull two toboggans... I know the kids would like that ! LOL HH
  8. Thanks Rick... HH
  9. Thanks Bill.... HH
  10. Hey folks, I am taking my kids out on Saturday for some perch on Cooks. I know that there is more than enough ice for us to walk out on, but I'd really appreciate knowing wht the ice surface is like. Is there any snow left? The reason I am asking is that as we are walking out, I don't want my kids braining themselves on bare ice. If I have to, I'll get them cleats, but if I don't well, I'd like to save the money if possible. Appreciate any up dates! thanks, HH
  11. Here's the funniest part Phil.... Once I got it un-packed, I suggested that we put it in the front window, so everyone could see it... I got that look! (if you are marrried, you know the look!) I then suggested that perhaps the mantle on the fireplace, in the family room, where it can be seen would be better... the "look" intensified! I then suggested that it would make a great lamp beside our bed, as it has a nice soft glow to it's light... I didn't know that a face could look like that! So, as of now, it's sitting on the kitchen table, awaiting the verdict on it's final placement... I just hope that it doesn't meet with an untimely demise! HH
  12. My wife got me this lamp! I know most of you are jealous, but it is a major award and is obviously quite fragile.... HH

  14. I bet they'd have a field day if they monitored Tuesday night chat here at OFCN... HH
  15. Bah ha!!!!! Agreed on the right thing... we are constantly having to fight to keep what we've got and they keep wanting us to have less... HH
  16. Still, my favorite fishing show! I met Red at the London Fishing Show in the late 70's. He was tucked away in a motor home, signing autographs. He a copy of his book of poemsfor me and my buddys.. We did notice that there was a distinct "aroma" inside the camper... if you know what I mean! While we were there Red suggested that we check out a certain retailer who was selling tackle at a very fair price. He showed us a floating lure that he bought from the guy, it was called a Spinididdy... basically a larger version of the Tiny Torpedo, dressed in frog colours. My buddies and I raced over to buy as many as we could afford. Heck, if Red told us to buy it, there was no chance that we were going to let that tackle tip get by us... I still have the lure and yes, I have caught quite a few fish on it! We spoke to him for what seemed like hours... gotta love that guy! I would really like it if they could find a way to capture the sound tracks of Red's fishing adventures. If you recall, there was no sound taken during his fishing with guests, just their commentary while watching the show with Red in the studio. Man, I can only immagine the colourful language and jokes that had to be flying, during their filming. Might not make it to long on regular TV.LOL If there was a fishing show like that on TV today, I'd watch that! HH
  17. Aweful news... condolences... HH
  18. From the guy who drinks Carling!!!!!!! Lemons are an important source of vitamins and fibre.... HH
  19. Thanks... I find pilsner's to be too sweet... that said, a nice cold box of the "numbers" (50) has it's appeal! LOL HH
  20. Not one to nitpic, but that would be The Kim Mitchell Band.... HH
  21. I had been making plans to get my two kids out for some Perch on Simcoe this weekend, it would be their first time ice fishin. My 9 year old son has been itching to get out and my 8 year old daughter is pretty keen as well. However, given that we would be white bucketing it, with no shelter, I have been forced to postpone this trip until next weekend given the forecast temps and high winds. I don't want to turn them off on their first trip by freezing their little ba doop do's off on their first try. So, I have decided that we will stay home this weekend and I will do my best to find the bottom of some beer bottles! (2012 has not started off very well!) So my biggest problem is.... yup, lager or ale? What do you guys suggest??? HH
  22. I like the idea of the Italian dressing! I have used instant mashed potatoe mix instead of bread crumbs with great success... thin crunchie coating... HH
  23. Good shooting guys!!!! Great report and the smiles say it all! thanks for posting! HH
  24. Covering expenses does not equate to profit... as a business, you need to make a profit, control your costs and develop new business. At best you are treading water, based on what I read here. Find a part time job that will augment your income and still allow you to develop your guiding business... as for your "friend"... that's a very generous usage of the word. HH
