  1. Brook Trout and migratory anything can intermingle and they can and do successfully in most environments so why not the Credit The Credit is one river that Im all for protecting the Brook trout population that exists and `providing rehabilitation opportunities. Sadly with the demise of the green drake population, poor water quality due in most part I suspect to Orangevilles poor sewage treatment practices thier range is soon to be less and less, sad considering some user groups and in particular one of thier bio's on the Credit does'nt want CRAA's help with it go figure . Since we can safely say there is no measerable brook trout population below the East Credit, then all species of salmonids are non native and as such should all be allowed to intermingle that should include brown trout rainbow trout coho chinook and Atlantics, if someone wants to prove to me there is a difference between a migratory and resident fish beyond life stages Im all ears but until then I ll stand by my comment. Sadly some stakeholders like TU and Issiac Walton in past didnt see it that way and we have the current credit scenerio where Rainbows cant access .above the papermill dam without a barrier Chinooks and Coho's are scurge of the earth ( in thier eyes ) and cant access above Streetsville) and even browns out of the lake cant get dropped at the cataract because they are some how different then the ones up there ...again go figure. It is inappropriate for ANY angling group be it migratory guys or as said earlier tweed wearing spaghetti whipping fly fishing folks )thanks man that was a good chuckle) to be allowed to have special access to any water for any reason. I had an elderly man come to me almost in tears because someone on the upper chastised him for bringing his grandson to fish and heaven forbid he had a worm on, a typical mentaility of how some in the upper watershed care only about thier experience but could care less about anyone elses. Now to dam mitigation, there are hundreds of dams on the Credit from some with heads in the double digits to some that are mearly a speed bump, many are in disrepair, many provide some species segregation, but for the most thety should all be gone. Its a long ardious process to remove a dam as not only are land owner rights involved but as you see above stakeholders will argue the smallest of facts. For the record i wish they all were gone. Norval is scheduled to recieve an active fish ladder this year, we are in the advance stages of design and are inches from seeing it start construction, while I knwo many bash the MNR this is one project where the district the local bio and even the Minister want to all see happen.
  2. Streetsville dam is closed there are no fish at Norval.
  3. I have a pd2 70 and I ll get an entire day without any issue and for at least 1/2 a day Im running it at 8 or so
  4. not to open a can of worms, glad you had a great day...Eugenia was a great lake yrs back where you were virtually guaranteed more then a few 4's and enough 3's to shake an arm off. Then an article was written and the expolsion was on. The impoundment is no more then 300 acres or so, and now due to its sheltered nature can have 12 foot car toppers on it. Couple that with 400 or so cottages on it and internet reports you get what you get , a lake that once was a majestic hidden jem, that averaged 3-4 lb fish all day and opportunities to catch 5-6-7 lb fish to now having so much boat traffic you cant fish a spot, its infested with carp and the average size is now a paultry pound or so ........it has way less traffic on the weekdays, but the white bucket brigade makes sure it never has any measurable bass in it.........the last 3 yrs it has doubled in boat traffic Several years back i remember taking my kids to the dam one day, to see what some of the locals do down the outflow chute...I recall seeing a bucket filled with blugills perch rockbass there must have been 100 or so none larger then 4 inches....when my child asked what the heck are you gonna do with them ............they responded soup...... Sad state of affairs
  5. yup but Mike I think Im giving up te long stick and drag free drifts and will ply the waters with these, I just need to make a decision on colors lol
  6. EHG everywhere I turn this year Im hearing some really tough nail biting stories
  7. Someone once said even the well laid plans often get destroyed. This seems to be the Summer of 09 in my case. With the boys having baseball almost nightly, it make for hectic schedules....but its all worth it in the end The windows that were open to fish got quickly closed with an operation my wife had and my having to up my daddy role, my kids digressed to toddlers and wanted bed time stories nightly something I was more then happy to do, 1 book almost brought some tears as my wifes dad who passed used to read it to them also. I did finally deciding that my hull and engine just are not suited for a 6 inch set back, it ran way better last summer with no jack plate so its coming off soon. No time to prefish and focused on the family its been tough, I even forgot my net at home and couldnt drive a hook in a fish then losing fish at a boat side, had me driving home pretty upset, thanks to a friend and the 1 hr convo I felt somehat better after the 4th beer that night I woke up the next morning and sorta said to my self who cares its recreational fishing We are healthy happy and beyond now at home and in the end thats all that counts lets just hope it all stays that way Im thinking..... So since bass opener the only things I fished were a July 1 club event Rice lake and another clubbie and Quinte yesterday The only pics I have from the clubbie is of Doug Brownridge, funny guy he is got largie blood in his veins a humble and extremely talented angler I say. The early morning fog which I though was a cool pic Well Rice lake came really quick so with no prefish I thought it was better to go as a non boater, was it a good choice ( yup as my second day guy and I hit it off and are spending a pile of time talking Quinte bass) day 1 started nice but shovelled rain thunder lightning, nothing like seeing mono line float up in the air from static electricity but it ended early too with a call to JP to come pick me up after my boaters engine blew 15 fuses..it wicked to see that a TV host stil remains humble and will at the drop of a pin run and help out anyone that knows the man will concur...... an early am shot Here we are getting a tow in..... I was asked to run the pontoon out to release the fish so it wasn't a waste and after the dismal day here is the largest of the fish on day 1 for me, came punching a mat... Funny part of the day.... we all usually put a few cold ones back at the end of the day, he beached his boat but ( insert evil grin ) it somehow started to float, here he is jumping into it...he made it but man was it funny if any one ever needs a boat/vehicle wrap Todd is one of the best going at it, he is reasonable and pretty much a great dude let me know and I ll fire you his number as the work is perfection the clubbies under CBAF in my opinion are on the verge of a circuit in terms of sticks, with jp, frost, nahm, deforge, brownridge chong, murision are some of the best sticks around and yet the unknowns are in some cases even stronger, so when the clubbies come its intense beginnings in terms of competition, but its all about beer and giggles at the end of the day, and thats what I think makes them fun, for anyone wanting to fish a tournament its a great and inexpensive way to get out and fish for a day. Thanks to Al Patton for suggesting a while back I join a bass club, best advise I have recieved in a while So here is a mid week shot of some of the boats chewin fat AS I said earlier I lost fish on the hook set, I really need to spend more time drivin a hook and getting up on my toes but thats the way she goes, this pic is me utterly disgusted in my self but figured I would make it somewhat funny..... Someone once said its not the guts but the glory that counts I beg to differ, we had a scare here in the house its ok now so Im thankful for that, and Im looking forward to more fishing but the heartache continues so let me start with some heartache yet again......will it ever stop Last year my mom broke her hip leaving her for the most part imobile other then a short few steps she can take its a tough go. She went from good to bad in all aspects of late life including dementia developing in the last while, and as I look at her I know her days are soon coming to an end something that saddens me to no avail. I get at least 2 calls a month generally at 3 am to drive over to help my dad pick her up as she would fall, again a really tough pill to swallow and a driving force why we arent moving. The other day I get the call again, but this one is different, suffice to say she fell again and the family needed help coupled with that and my dad also needing asistance I couldnt let my wife deal with it all and the kids so a weekend trip I had planned Ottawa way got scrubed..... With her recoperating, and not much I can do to help my wife suggested I go fish Sunday for the day get some stress out yes..... no..... YES!!!! So I packed up the boat to fish one of my favorite bodies of water Quinte. The morning started calm like most mornings but quickly got beyond timid, and with a 100 boat tourny on it, I figured it would be a tough bite. while the picture doesnt do justice, it was lumpy with some sweet waves to ride on the way back to Belleville from Trenton I figure I was airborne 7 or so times which somehow eased things and put a smile on the face It was a bitter sweet day with guilt riding me but it was a diversion and I needed one.... My friend Justin with a sweet fish who generally isnt a bass guy, although I think he might be converting over.... if you get a chance read his blogs on WFN Today is filled with spending time with mom and my family...... thanks for reading
  8. If you see some green gelcoat on a rock there say hi to it from me....
  9. hey Dutch isnt it time to change the musky to a bass in the avatar lol
  10. An aluminum prop will work on the hp engine but hole shot will vastly improve with ss....Hitting a rock at 4mph can ddo damage regardless of the prop , an aluminum will flex and break easier then ss. IMO any boat above 115 is better suited for ss or a painted steel prop
  11. the torque would bend the aluminum prop
  12. cliff find a 4 blade stainless prop should help with the low end out of the hole
  13. that was an awsome recant of the trip!!! Joanne should be proud of the dad you became bud
  14. dead on drop the can
  15. This is a tough one and Im sorta glad I had more then a few beers before I typed this. Cronz was what I considered a good friend until a few months back we had it out and seems we dont talk anymore these days so its tough talkin about him. If he reads this he knows my number and can call anytime, and a night at jakes is always in the mix He is what he is loud, abnoxious, and well you agree or disagree with him over his thoughts but in the day he did a lot for fishing and lots of the things surrounding conservation today are owed to him. There might not be a coho program without him, chinook might have even fallen off the wagon without him in the day. These days though he is over the top and not making friends with his commentary and I understand the issues he has with sponsors due to his own personal demons these days. Regardless he deserves the respect for things he did in his hay day that still survived to this day. Josh is a class act all over, looking forward to crackin cans on the big head this year if we can again!!! Mercer is a new breed and to be blunt is in my opinion going to be the one that brings bass fishing from its current perch today to the masses of the future, he will be the guy to turn bass fishing from the bleachers to the kitchen table, the guy has a hit and like it or not has an audience, he isnt having fireside chats but is actually taking the time to teach the masses on fishing...I"ll go on limb and say that Mercer will be the Cronzy of today, and will bring bass to the big picture just like Daryl brough salmon and trout to the us in his day..... Only question is can Mercer put them back like good ole Cronz..... So Dave lets go put some shots back one night lol
  16. god dont even go there with the etr.....

  18. no no Bill brookies fall in to the food catagory
  19. good thread, hope it doesnt go down hill. I too thought anyone can catch a bass and your right anyone can, but once I actually fished a few tournaments against other bass guys my thinking changed really fast on it. I felt prior to it I could rate my self as a 5-6 out of 10 as a bass guy find some weeds and off you go, but I quickly realized after the first event I was maybe a 1 or 2 on a great day, when it came to finding bigger bass not bass but big bass on a pattern aimed at catching them Flippin a jig what color trailer, pitchin creature baits ( that list in about a foot long), at least 6 worm techniques, crankbaits jerk baits what depth what color what style, spinner baits what blade what color what trailer, tubes belly weight or bullet a 3 or a 5 in size, dropshotting top water sammy's poppers, frogs buzzbaits the list and combination is endless and boundless both with baits and rods.....I think i have close to 20 rods now and am going to pick up another one after realizing something about deep diving cranks Your right anyone can catch a bass but not just anyone can catch a lot of really big bass in fact a very select few can catch bass at a rate that wins events. If all one wants is to go to a lake catch a few bass and relax then yup anyone including our kids can catch a bass on a rig as simple as a worm and bobber, but I cant think of another fish that has as many techniques, patterns and gear aimed at catching really big bass........ I watched everyone yesterday work 6 feet of water over weeds, while I cranked into 25 fow for largiesin a main lake creek channel.....go figure
  20. Steve that first lake your on always amazes me the fish that live in there......
