  1. lol guess those 6 stores didnt sell US liscences either.....I think a joint is a misdemenor while a non citizen breaking conservation laws is a much more serious crime....mahhh its ok no need any longer to talk Wayne that background ok
  2. Wayne how dare you post that pic its going to be flooded once the pub clears thank god I fixed it for you....I couldnt cover the hedge so hope no one figures it out lol
  3. sadly solo wont read this until late tomm some time
  4. sorry i thin all that can be said has been said maybe its time this gets locked
  5. ok as a representive for king pin an advocate of rod builders and more I guess the question Im asking if with your knowledge of the system above and below the reserve how could you let a friend fish without a liscence knowing the potential conflicts that could have arose. Why didnt you take him up or down on NY land? If your knowledge of the river is limited or non existant beyond the reserve and the patch patching why risk it, go left or right at the gas station there is piles of rivers to fish both ways where you wont risk getting arrested for fishing illegally I guess thats my question Im just trying to understand how such a high profile guy in the steelhead community would do something like that... Sorta like Henry and Italo in the old days, if you dont want to answer I respect your right to not on it have a great night
  6. Im not going to anything that was replied, for obvious reasons other then to comment, catch and release morality on steelhead is much less then 10% I can only assume how one would get home if the party they fished with had thier car seized by seneca nation for fishing without a liscence, would one have left thier friend in thier jail cell to await fine payment on Monday, or called the local Canadian consulate getting charged in a foreign country is a serious offense, in particular on native land which is governed by its own sets of intertwined rules. How would someone feel if a local native on the reserve inpounded the gear car and more, simply asking for a 2k fine to be paid.....its endless the negative conotations to fishing, i only ask knowing this as as reasonable person how could one even allow a friend to be placed in that situation.........with friends like that who needs ....well the rest is obvious, the refernece to bandana's is simple, the natives who live on seneca drive ATV's carry 12 guage and some with handguns doing what is within thier legal rights patrol Thier land pointing a gun at one and asking for a liscence to be on his/her land is thier right....that fact they wear bandana's and face masks is just common knowlege nothing more... Actually talking to that fact of fishing illegally in a foreign country or for that fact in our own, if it disuades one single person from fishing without a liscence, goes and buys one contirbutes to a fishery then it did good in the thread....and the fishery. I have fished with HIM he is courtious and protective of his fish, will on a dime stop fishing to teach someone not as experienced on how to release a fish handle a fish and more...his expolits and postings have turned many on to the sport, another good thing as more that participate in chasing chromers the more some guys can use that as leverage to push the agenda of hot fast chromers stuffing every nook of rivers in ontario find fault in that
  7. River rat was banned from Float fishing.net wonder why?? Having anyone fish the reserve without a liscence is irresponsible and puts us anglers wishing to fish the reserve in a potentially tough spot, having seen some of the local's with the bandana's and shot guns running amuck I wouldnt want to have one decide to spot check me because someone recently was arrested for fishing the reserve without a liscence especially a fellow canadian. Never mind a post about drop backs on a river that if you reconize the water you ve been there already the fact you fished with a "dude" without a liscence puts us all at risk. I have been in the same situation many times there and had someone who couldnt purchase a liscense for what ever the reason the seneca sells out of them, but the city hall which is open 6 days a week always has them in stock In the end I did the responsible thing and fished NY water legally I would never put myself my companion, or any other angler in a position that liscence checks increased and kids on atv's with bandana's and shot guns can now train it on me and say" show me your liscence" 90,000 fish can sustain a bit of pressure and that river has sooooo much water where you can fish pools and not see a person but my family cant replace me with a 12 guage hole in my chest because some kid decided to random check me....guess what any resident of the reservation can do just that I know this will lead to some convoluded war or words also but it had to be said....it was a good thread too.... Completely irresponsible to accompany someone fishing illegally thats no different then a poacher or worse
  8. Avoid the okuma's of the world......good advise here St croix has a nice avid coming out worth looking at. Fast blank with lots of back bone a noodle that bends to the cork or something in between lots to choose from My IMX is always for sale...but a bit over your budget. Im waiting to see the newest CTS with a buddy so I can give er a whirl... Seriously danjang buy what you can afford after all its not the rod that hooks the chromer and breaking a 200 stick is far less disheartening then breaking a 700 one...trust me there
  9. Dave!!!!! Where have you been, was going to ask Andy for your contact info PM me we should get out again....You know how it is Dave a timing window these days there
  10. Its not the MNR bureaucrats and policy advisors that are causing the OMNR to get gutted at an exponential rate, nor is it the district managers area managers or regional biologists. I have met many many at all levels and for the most part they want whats best for the resource and are always trying to find common ground between the plethoria of stakeholders. Yes sometimes the decisions are assinine without merit or direction ( as I see it) but to another stakeholder its exactly what they want OMNR policy advisors are generally unseasoned youth who try to run inbetween all the bullets from the various stakeholders and paid lobbists who are trying to garner some attention on thier " cause" from a minister. At least we arent the US where adhoc PA's can be hired for advise on specific topics Budget requests this year were much higher then in past years, there is direction with it, but what do you do when you ask for 75 million and only get 50 and are told to get the job done. If you really want to blame anyone its not the PA's rather its much higher in the totum pole right to the cabinet office, thats where the real money is divied up as a premier's agenda is unfolded. Want more money for OMNR go talk to the cabinet office and the premier its his directive that dictates what money is allocated and to who....
  11. Glad you posted this JP I didnt want to mention it was you...having seen pretty much every other TV at some point on the water ( except Dave Mercer) It was impressive that you didnt care about your boat getting cracked on a dock or if your arm got broken while under a dock if the boat gets rocked.....The sort of thing you did earned major respect today, I hope a lot of guys see this and learn that your a class act Straight line anglers didnt do thier due diligence that day, especially since your right I saw the faces of some of the ppl there and if they didnt want to fizz them Mel or any of us would have........ Rember the G B thing I ll buy a pitcher for you next get together! Has anyone else seen a TV show host go to this length to save a fish
  12. Ohh God Bill dont even go there a few years back there was a 2 week long thread on the us steelhead site over a Canadian coming between them, when they were seperated by ohh 100 feet....they couldnt flick cast dude to the 50 feet of distance the centerpin angler left.....that was me it was almost a rumble on the catt.......
  13. thread hijackers Funny Bill I found the skips smack dab in the seams right in the middle of a pool.....Funny how fish are.......
  14. DAY 1 Its Once….. Twice…..Three times a Chromer The planning for the day sort of took a mind of its own, I have a bass Tournament on Erie the next day out of Port Colborne so I was intending to get out and go through some way points and a new emerald shiner bait that’s ohhh so screams drop shot. Somehow that got transposed with wanna go steelheading…ahhh….ohh ok. Where? I wanted to go fish up north as I hear it was on…….the time factor came into effect and we decided a trip to the cookie cutter capital of the Center of Steelhead universe….…..was in order A quick drive and we start looking at the precip that never appeared as per the weather man..change of plans My Friend and I decide Estuary 101 was in order, so you know, with this cold weather these fish start to nose into rivers from the lake and some river systems are just perfect for fishing them in the early am. I really like to capture the essence of these estuaries as its a neat backdrop to fishing a river and the scenery in many cases is superior to the fishing. This particular river was beyond gin clear but had a very decent fishable population of hot fish straight from the lake, sadly the drift was like watching paint dry but it was productive and the direct peaceful drift into the lake something I always enjoy One of the many from this drift After a while it started to slow down and suddenly watching paint dry didnt sound like such a bad idea....packed up and off we went Stop number two on the journy has us at a small intimate river that lots dont fish due to it not being stocked, and being very on / off with fish, the scenery is second to none though again another estuary shot I hope captured the intent which was peacefulness I love fall steelhead for many reasons but most of all for the bright chrome and the translucent fins on the fish they are fish that just are truely beautiful After a while we decided it was time to move on to the final destination of the day but before that I noticed something I saw in the past but never quite captured its flavor on film, an old boarded up beachfront resort closed forever or for the season I dont know but its image reminded me of a what a postcard from Normandale during the second world war might look like.... in reality its simply a storm surge protector and a delapatated resort but I hope I was able to recreate the sense of what it could be. The final destination These systems experienced major flooding over the summer with a few storms and as such these major storm events I heard it was a silt pit, I have fished it at 700cfm but now adays half that is needed to be fishable. We arrived at a stop to take a quick peek and I was amazed at the amount of silt there really is.....its awful What we did realize is that it had a foot of vis and with the right technique it fished today. After a few checks with a float gradually adding more shot and no fish we knew there was one technique that would work, seam and current break fish stacking shot and bouncing it off the bottom We were right it was steelhead nirvana and beyond, a few pics happened but the severe silt and the consistant fishing meant no mud pics for many reasons .............. but first and foremost its not good for the fish. As a steelheader one of the greatest things that can happen is leaving with a huge container of roe bags and having to stop because you ran out from fishing them One of THE many many many of the day My camera is slimed, as are my waders, wading jacket and ...well everything else but I cant stop the smile..... DAY 2 Simon Forst does a series on Erie called the Frost Bite Series its every weekend in November until Bass closes in Canada. If huge monsterious Erie Smallies are something your into November is the time, the big smallies school up and really feed hard Then again its Erie and a 5 k wind turns to 20 k really quick and it gets gross especially in a bass boat. Anyhow today was the last of the official club tournaments, for the CBAF it was a good time to start to get a feel for some new water The lake was closed at the border due to weather and water it was nasty Trust me its decieving, they were not fun, I got stuck running of to some deep water and had to run troughs back time for some aleve I do think The other thing that i had to endure this morning was bitter 50 degree spray in -6 windschill on the boat, I found that there are lots of face protectors but this seems to feel the best and provide the most comfort although it slips from time to time and I swear my nose kills..any suggestions? Is this a report on fishing or a fashion report............The obvious scenery was devoid other then the above picture I spent some time making it look nicer...... Anyhow I was able to find some different water and mark a dozen waypoints, the fish are still scattered, incredibly tough to find consistantly ......just tough Suffice to say its Erie and you usually catch but the fish were not where I expect them to be, I guess its still a few weeks too early to really have them school up and dial in....I still managed a few regardless its always great when fall comes and Erie starts her fall dance. As a guy with a huge passion for conservation of our wild life I saw something today that made me instintively say cool....A well know TV host was fishing today also and there was a tournament by a small group, that group was negligent in taking the time to fizz thier smallies and as a result thier air bladder wouldnt let them sink, eventually they would die....the TV host did what ever it took to scoop the fish from under a dock away from a bird to make sure it was fizzed and released back to live and fight another day.....no fan fair no camera's simply just doing the right thing.......you know who you are.... On a side note those that like to bass fish and dont have a boat or a ful aresenal, or skill but have a desire to learn and have lots of fun you should consider joining a local bass club it is an experience you wont forget, and you could get lucky and have some of the best canadian tournament anglers as your boater, you will learn at an exponential rate and it is an experience well worth it over the winter check out some of the club meetings. visit the site and enjoy http://cbaf.ca/ Im off to sleep, but I need to fish in the morning somewhere, hope you enjoyed my pictures and thoughts
  15. naw dude Im just fat and too lazy to bend

  17. they most certainly do pm me your email and I ll put you in touch
  18. buggers, I ll tie up the roe bags too....none of curry's secret recipe here.......Jp you actually should come with me and Mike you would have a hoot....often tried to get a day trip where we can smash those US smallies and beach the boat and fish steelies at the mouth while we watch the bass boats I figured it out JP but heck Im always in a beer buying mood........
  19. he is skinny and healthy... Im fat and a sloth....all that bending would rapture a spleen in me these days lol
  20. Funny you should post this, as I just actually sat and watched it. As a WFN aficionado who seems to have it on 24/7 I ll go on a limb and say its pretty much the most imformative one going, he simplifies it right down to a 123 method. I thought last year was pretty cool but this year is just over the top....... Sooooo JP where was that slop exactly......
  21. Johnny thats the reason Im no skinny toothpick
  22. I didnt put it together to go until ohhhh about 3 minutes before....didnt wanna call Joanne might have killed me, I ll be back Friday
  23. Bill any time
  24. This was to be my last full weekend off, prior to the big push to finish up some work both at home and work before Christmas so I know the days might be limited. It’s also the time of year as we all know lots of fish put the feed bag on and the rivers start to empty of bronzed Chinooks and begin to fill up with obnoxious bright steelhead. Last year this time after thanksgiving I spent a full day on Quinte just destroying largemouth on a jig ironically enough in shorts and a t shirt, not this year late fall steelhead attire was the norm. I woke up early Sunday to go over to the CRAA hatchery and do something I take a lot of pleasure in, that’s stocking the fish off for the year; I give some weeks upwards of 20 hrs on CRAA related work so to see the end result of the work enter its natal stream is a very very rewarding feeling. I will say the dedicated group or CRAA hatchery folks are to be commended as lots of your rainbows come from here next time you hook an unclipped fish let it swim please…. This year’s collection After a long day in the cold stocking these great fish I was lucky to come home to a great feast. As an American my wife takes a lot of time and energy preparing the feast on both the days, to her it’s an important day, to share the bounty of the harvest with her loved ones as she puts it, I agree fully and I will admit it’s one of the greatest meals of the year, no store bought anything it’s all from scratch from the cranberry’s to the stuffing, it’s a FEAST !!!! Now with that great meal in me it was time to plan out Mondays’ adventure It was the first frost warning of the year and I know that I had to get out after the rains we had and fish some of the smaller branches of the big tributaries looking for pockets of water stuffed with chromers yet these same stretches are devoid of a lot of people, those that do fish them are generally fairly skilled anglers so it was a perfect way to spend an early fall day. So after a great thanksgiving dinner prepared and a through garage and house purge, roe bags in hand off we went. One of my favorite scenes on this river is the double arched bridges they are old they are scary and somewhat run down but in their essence they are truly beautiful I hope I was able to capture their grandeur fully here. On to fishing the entire day was filled with a mixture of fresh run fish and some that have been in this system for awhile Here is a fairly robust male that just decided he wanted no part of the shore line, it was a pleasure to see his colored up nature After a while we run into huge pods of these fresh fish, they were not huge by most standards but they were rather plentiful, I found their acrobatics actually funny, fall fish are just that way and one of the biggest reasons why I love fall over spring steelhead After a while we decided to move up stream to peak at some of the remote water, this system with water has some seriously nice stretches to fish filled with a lot of “run and gun”pocket water fishing, some great nymphing water and the traditional slow moving deep pools almost any style of steelheading works well here short of swinging as spey. Sections like this continued for long periods of time and each one had a plethora of fish within it, with high water a serious pleasure to fish, as the roe was put back and nymph’s were pulled out, honestly teasing these steelhead out from timber is one of my favorite things to do, you certainly require a fast rod to set the hook and one with back bone to immediately turn the fish out into water, it’s really a you against the fish mentality, akin to flippin a jig in serious cover, but with a 13 footer a reel with no drag and a fish bent on busting you off….its intense to say the least, couple it with a bug strike and anyone who has fished timber for migratory fish understands. After a few hours of timber fishing we decided to walk back down and start our journey to the car, it was a long drive home and we both needed to work in the am. We crossed an intersection and stumbled onto what some call the mother load I prefer to call it steelhead nirvana, to post 50 pictures of similar sized fish doesn’t do justice and to be blunt I wasn’t stopping to take picture after picture of these clones, suffice to say it was a great way to end the day and judging by my smile a pile of fun at the moment. Now its time to turn my mindset on these for a few weeks
