  1. A great tribute for a most deserving man....... We all have or will experience life at it's very best and it's most challenging times. The support that we receive from OFC's, some whom we know well and others who we have never met, is truly overwhelming. The fact that we share some of the best and worst times of our lives with one another attests to what we actually have here. Each time you look into the painting Lew, you will discover new intimate details that bring back fond memories. Something that only an artists rendering can provide. Be well Lew, Diane and Sheri...... John..
  2. I was in the middle of my third coffee Roy! I will send you the cleaning bill...............
  3. Most of us can overlook the occasional poop disturber on this board who seem to try to make up for their inadequacies............... Great thread Connie.
  4. Don't get your knickers in a twist holdfast.......I can't remember the last time the Brit's invaded North Battleford! Perhaps it's time to build that air raid shelter........
  5. Seems like I managed to discover some long lost relatives of............guess who?
  6. Can't help directly but a friend on mine who is a retired high school teacher manages a Rona store and he always has a smile on his face. Mind you, they have some incredibly cute staff at his store.........
  7. Very sincere heartfelt thanks to each and everyone of you who make up this amazing community. Thank you for your thoughts, kind words and prayers. Although I am very fortunate to be able to return to the UK 2 or 3 times a year, it is painfully difficult to "see" someone you love and respect lose their battle with this dreadful disease inch by inch, from 3,000 miles away. As many of you said, he is at peace with the one he loved dearly. John & Barbara........
  8. We lost my Dad over the weekend. The world will be a lesser place without him. As some of you knew, he had been battling lung cancer. Against all odds he managed to live with it for a year and a half and had a pretty good quality of life. We talked practically daily and his quick witted sense of humour continued strong until the last week or so when he deteriorated quite rapidly. As he hadn't been able to eat or talk for a few days, his passing on was a blessing. Dad had selflessly dedicated 8 1/2 of the last 10 years of his life to taking care of my Mom who had many health problems. Eventually she passed away from complications associated with her illness. He never really got over losing her and talked often about their being together once again. Although I will be away in the UK for the next couple of weeks I hope to still get to the Firehall tomorrow night to have a beer or two in his honour. John....
  9. Great stuff Cliff. Couldn't happen to a nicer fellow. As Joe said the outcome was just a matter of time.. John...
  10. I believe that Three Mile Lake had/has a problem common with a lot of Muskoka Lakes and that is development. There are lots of "cottagers" today that want Muskoka location with Toronto accommodation. That is, they are not satisfied with a treed and relatively natural lot. They feel that they must landscape right down to the water. Of course with that landscaping they want green grass and lots of flowers...........which means seasonal fertilizing. The run off when it rains has to be incredible............
  11. Maybe I'm missing something here, BUT, why make the investment of a trip to the French with a reel held together with glue??????????? You can replace it for less than the cost of a tank of gas.
