Metro East Anglers helps operate the fish way at Milne dam on the Rouge near Markham Rd & 407. PM me if you are interested.

I hurt my ribs a few years back (I don't think they were actually broken). The doctor told me that they no longer recommed taping the ribs; it doesn't really benefit you and can cause problems. Try to stick to "beverages" or pain killers, not both.

Last I hear they were planning on clipping tomorrow night. I am not sure about Thursday or Friday. Here is a link to the hatchery site. You may need to sign up to view it. http://ringwoodfcs.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=panda They should update the site if the schedule changes. I will try to post updates here myself. Thanks for all the help. We were worried that we may not have been able to clip enough fish for all the pens. With this kind of turnout we may be able to add some more pens for next year.

Regardless of whether you are Bull'ing him or are just missinformed; someone did post the ingrediants in WD40 a while back, nothing from a fish was listed.

I think you need to think of what you would like to do and focus on that. There are a lot of completely different jobs that all qualify as fishing related. Charter boat operator, lodge owner/operator, fishing guide, float plane pilot, tackle retail/manufacturing/distribution, tournament fisherman, biologist, hatchery technition, CO, etc. to name a few. All of these have completely different qualifications and paths to get there.

Glad to hear that you all had a productive day. Unfortunately I had to work late and couldn't be there. I understand that the evening clipping for tomorrow night is cancelled. If anyone does want to help out please be sure to contact Andy Rubaszek to let him know. That way he can let you know if they will be there. I wouldn't want anyone's first experience with the hatchery to be arriving just in time to see everybody else leaving. The hatchery number is: 905-640-6204

You correct; Ringwood Hatchery is one of the organizations that receives funding from the show. The Sportsmans Shows are run by a not for profit organization. Any revenues above the cost of running the shows are donated for the betterment of the outdoors. They have donated in excess of 30 million dollars since their inception.

I have only been out a few times; I primarily fish Baptiste. I do plan to give it a try this year.
-
Thanks to all those who have offered to help out. We have a booth at the Sportsman Show if you want to drop by. We are also hoping to increase the pen sites in the future. Contact us if you would like to start new pen location or help out with an existing one.
-
I don't have exact addresses: here are the general locations: The pen locations are: Wellington, Whitby Harbour, Oshawa, Dalhousie, Bluffers Park and Darlington. Let know if there is any one location in particular that you are interested in and I will find out more.
-
There may be some other opportunities to volunteer. The pen sites need help as well. There may be one near you.

Volunteers are needed for fin clipping at Ringwood hatchery next week; especially if you can come in during the day. Metro East Anglers will be clipping adipose fins for all Chinook to be stocked in pens. The pen locations are: Wellington, Whitby Harbour, Oshawa, Dalhousie, Bluffers Park and Darlington. Pen rearing the fish for six weeks prior to release is been shown to improve the fishes' survival and improve returns. If we are not able to clip enough fish; then we may not have fish for all pen locations. If you would like an opportunity to improve the Chinook fisher, especially if you fish any of those locations; try to drop by Ringwood next week and help out. PM me or drop by the Ringwood site if you need more information. http://ringwoodfcs.proboards.com/index.cgi?

When I was looking at boats most places were adding about $500 for rigging. I was looking at boats in the 50hp range.

In Toronto, and probably most other cities, it is generally illegal to park in front of your house regardless of whether the area is paved or not. If you have a garage your must only park in or infront of your garage. Even of your driveway has been widened and a portion of it is in front of your house, it is illegal to actually park there. I don't think that parking on grass per se is the issue; however, if you are parked on grass you are probably parked where you are not allowed to park. It used to be pretty easy to get away with illegally widening your driveway in Toronto but they are now starting to enforce the rules. You need a permit to pave your driveway. They have inspectors who roam the city looking for people who pave without a permit. If you have a sidewalk alongside the driveway it must be 6" higher than the driveway to discourage parking on it.

If I understand you correctly ... someone who owed the government $1,500 before taking the renovation credit into consideration, and qualified for an $800 renovation tax credit would not receive a refund; but the $800 would be deducted from the money that they owe the government. If this is the case, the tax payer would still have received the benefit of the renovation credit because they would owe the government $700 instead of owing them $1,500. They are still $800 better off than they would have been without the tax credit.

The fact that not all provinces are adopting HST puts a pretty big hole in any claims that the federal goverment is forcing Ontario to do this. Saskatawan and Manitoba will still have their own PST seperate from GST or HST after July.

Actually no, Harris did not sell off our power generation capabilities. Ontario still owns them. McGuinty is floating the idea of selling them now. If your dept comment refers to the Hydro dept, that was there long before Harris came to power. He is the one the decided we should try to pay it off instead of just letting it accumulate. As far as prices, the debt incurred by Hydro indicates that the prices they billed us was less than the cost of providing the electicity. The price on our bills may have been lower, but we had the unseen accumulation of debt that made the real price much higher that than what was on the bill. Now we see the real price on out bills.

Here is the go big or go home version; it is a little heavy to cast but does come with its own trailer. http://www.seahorse.net.nz/

Are you referring to Shayne Berwick when you refer to the "other guy"? My understanding is that Shayne Berwick was attempting to flee the area in and Dennis Middleton used his truck to run the other vehicle off the road which caused an accident that left Shayne Berwick permanently disabled. If this is the case then I would say that, yes it is his fault.

I agree; but I think the same can be said for the terms char and salmon as well. p.s. I always find it interesting that Brook Trout, Lake Trout, Bull Trout, Dolly Varden Trout, and Artic Char are all members of one genus and everybody keeps saying that the four trout members are really char rather than referring to the one char member as a trout. Wouldn't in make more sense to say that an arctic char is really a trout?

All rainbow/steelhead are capable of spawning multiple times in their life. I don't think there is evidence to suggest that significant numbers of any of the steelhead from lake Onrario end up in the Atlantic. If they did it is unlikely that they would return. To do so they would have to pass through the locks. The term steelhead usually refers to a migratory trout... this would include trout that migrate from Lake Ontario to spawn. As mentioned they are capable of spawning more than once. Rainbow trout usually refers to trout that are resident in rivers or small lakes. They are both the same species though.
-
Fish in northern waters tend to grow slower and live longer than their southern cousins. I am not sure if they ever get too old to spawning; if they do the specific age would be different for different regions.

Good point, I haven't checked the 2010 regs but Lake Trout have always been closed for winter on Baptiste. There are walleye and pike in Baptiste (and Elephant too). Walleye are not plentiful in either. I haven't tried Diamond Lake myself but it is stocked with lake trout.

Coyote grabs Pomeranian in Pickering area.

I wonder if a few of them (fishers) on the Leslie Street Sand Spit would help keep the cormorants under control. -
Personally I can't really judge the height of the deer without something beside it to provide some scale... interestingly a quick google search lists Elk as being 4 to 5 feet at the shoulder with only the bulls approaching the upper range. That makes it pretty hard for me to picture a wolf or white tail reaching that size.
