For the most part while my family was young I worked my fishing around nap times and even today I tend to fish in blocks of a couple of hours with family time in between. I get away a few days fishing in spring and fall with a buddy without family but other than that I just fish for a few hours on days when I go out fishing. The rest of the day is family time. Over the years what has kept me from fishing the most is probably work commitments. Work around the house has never been a priority for me and summers are short (and so is life) so my grass usually needs to be cut, repairs go undone, etc. "Housework" is a priority for some and not for others. Just because the work around the house isn't getting done it may not mean you are fishing too much

Sept. 10th Report - fishing with Rod Caster...
rufus replied to adolson's topic in General Discussion
Great report and pics guys. Looks like a terrific lake for canoeing -
He is a poacher. Do I win a prize?

Clear water, walleye, and no cottages on the lake - paradise!

Very nice Sportspal, right? How do you like it? I am thinking of looking for a used one...

I have been using small ziplock type snack bags for harnesses and put all of the small bags full of harnesses into a larger ziplock to hold it all together. It holds more and takes up less space than the lindy thing or pool noodles. Fits in a pocket, small pack, in a storage compartment in the boat, or in the tackle box.

Wow! Great fish!

That is true. The #3 Mepps catches walleye too when shallow against the shore.... where he fishes. If you could only have one lure it is not a bad choice

Another vote for the Albright here!

Yeah, it is hilarious alright. I think he used the reel for catching tiny trout in the Yukon and it probably has 6 lb test on it. The rod he is using was an old one that I got when an elderly relative died. I gave it to him because it was still better than his own light action rod!

I wanted to make a change on a title and was told by the government department responsible that I would need a lawyer to do it because everything is on electronic title. No paperwork to submit - meaning only lawyers who pay for access can make changes to titles.

Just a couple of corrections. #5. - Permission was obtained beforehand and the logo is used with the blessing of the Canadian Forces. #6.- Named after Benny Hatskin's favourite football team - NY Jets

At the end of August I went Northern Pike fishing with my brother-in-law. Now, my brother-in-law only ever fishes for pike and smallmouth bass. That is because he only ever fishes with one lure - a #3 Mepps spinner - which means he is pretty much limited to fishing in shallow water. So, if the smallies are deep - then we are pike fishing! We caught lots of small pike - quite a bit smaller than what had previously been the average size in the area. We also caught a few good ones and my brother-in-law caught his biggest pike to date - his personal best. It was really too big for his equipment as you will see in the video but we did manage to net it. He was so excited by his catch that he was inspired to compose a song about pike fishing - which is used in this video and which is why it took a couple of weeks to get the video up
<param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BErmKA7wXE?version=3&hl=en_US">

I enjoyed your report and the videos. I like the angle they are shot at - great view

Hey! That is my kind of place - excellent!

Great muskie! Terrific pictures too!

WOW! I never would have thought largies would be that deep! Seems they could be just about anywhere, eh?
-
Very nice! Crappie are as tasty as walleye in my opinion. In how many feet of water were you fishing?
-
Thanks guys! I will try all of your suggestions. I tried a spinner bait in some weedy bays today - caught lottsa little pike so I wasn't bored
-
Thanks, we don't have much for docks, overhanging trees, and laydown trees - the water fluctuates 8 feet in a season here. I will try spinners in the weeds for sure. Do largies ever get deeper than shallow weedy bays or is that pretty much where they like to hang out?
-
I am thinking of trying to target largies where I usually fish of the Winnipeg River north of Kenora. They are not a species that are listed too be here and I have never caught one but over the years I have seen pictures of largemouths that tourists have caugght in the area. The area is mostly rocky and deep - typical shield country with a few small shallow bays. Anybody have any tips of where I should look and what I should use for lures?

WTG Simon I wish they had the patch back when I quit!
-
I did check that out once and as far as I could tell there is no problem with disposing of remains in the water. As I recall the guide explicitly says not to dispose of remains on the shore but makes no mention of chucking them in the water. I generally take mine to the dump anyway except when shore lunches are involved
