  1. He has been home for 10 days now but I was laid up with a gout attack and couldn't get my shoe on over my swollen foot ...today I just wore my slippers... He and Jackie are tickled pink to be home and teddy (the puppy) appreciates it also...Jack was sitting up in his big chair this morning but was propped up in the hospital bed they have for him this afternoon...It is opposite the sliding glass doors in the middle of their living room so he sees the outside...Jackie has their Christmas tree up and decorated already and a few other decorations around so the room is very bright and cheery...Jack was in good spirits and I was amazed how much use he has of his left hand already..."Gotta get it in shape to reel in a carp" he said... He hasn't started physical therapy for his legs yet...the therapist lady was coming next Tuesday but Jackie has to have Jack at the hospital in P'boro for his check-up that day...He can't walk on his own at present so Jackie has to assist him... One of his wood carving pals dropped by with some books and patterns for wood burning so that is his next project I guess... After two hours Jack was getting tired so Maribeth and I said our good-byes til next time... Keep the good thoughts and prayers coming folks...his recovery will need them along with our good wishes and e-mails...he can't answer them himself yet but Jackie can for him... [email protected]
  2. I hope it is not your last carp report for the year... Nothing doing in the Kawarthas carpwise so CPH and I have hung up our equipment for the season and have been chasing other species... BTW...nice shots of the carp...
  3. Try New World Carp ... Fast service from Stephen ... I use a homemade "flinger" A scoop taped to an old cane pole...
  4. Maribeth's dad used to say to figure out how long do you have to work to buy a pound of butter...less time now?...then you are better off now than back when... In the 1940s my mother would send me to the store with a note for a $0.25 package of Player's cigarettes and once she made me take pork chops back to the butcher's shop because he charged us $0.45 for 3 of them and get $0.25 cents worth of ground round instead......Saturday matinees were $0.10 and they gave you a comic book, two features and a cartoon... I remember some gas station out on Kingston Road (Lion?) near West Hill charged $0.29 for a gallon of gas (early 1950s) In the mid '50s making $40 a week the wife and baby and I lived in a 2 room upstairs flat for $12 per week and our weekly grocery bill was about the same... Most furniture etc. was bought on the never-never plan...10% down and weekly payments.
  5. There is a sign on the way into the park warning you to shuffle your feet in the sand if you are wading... I didn't and spent 3 painful hours in a walk-in clinic from a stingray hit just above the ankle...
  6. I have only fished off the piers at Clearwater and Redington Beach (near John's Pass) on the Gulf side and both times we rented equipment from the tackle shop on the piers... I always liked the sign at the Redington Pier..."The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing. ~Babylonian Proverb" On the Atlantic side we fished a couple of different piers (Daytona and Ft. Lauderdale) several times... We purchased tackle and rod/reels combos at Wal-Mart that paid for itself after five sessions of not renting... We were lucky to hook up with "Little Joe" (resident drunk) who took us under his wing and showed us what terminal tackle to purchase...sinker sliders, pyramid sinkers in various sizes depending on the surf, swivels, saltwater hooks. fluorocarbon leader material... A frozen shrimp ($2 a box on the pier) on a 3 foot leader and you never knew what you might catch (whiting, catfish, redfish, black drum, sea trout etc.) Some of the locals called us "rookies" and laughed at our little rods (7 ft) but after we started to catch lots of fish they said we weren't "rookies" no more... Best of luck down there...I envy you...
  7. Like to gamble do ya Lew?...we had ours installed last week...I'm surprised we haven't needed them yet...but one of these days...
  8. It was a great way to wrap up the day yesterday also Brian...

  11. Hey Mike...Here's to a speedy recovery... If you were a well bred thoroughbred racehourse and they only removed one they would refer to you as a riggling (Rig)...keeps your mind off the fillies and makes you run faster...
  12. Joey... I think I have a copy of a book titled "Never Sit Where the Cat Sat" you might want to read or "101 Uses for a Dead Cat"
  13. Like giving new meaning to wokking the dog ?
  14. CANADAVE...Now there is a name from the past... Can't help with a fishfinder...I only have a cheap Eagle portable but it points out the shoals and humps for me... Stop being a stranger, especially since we will soon have a Provincial election coming up... Your ideas and opinions are always held in high regard by me...
  15. She has lost a couple of pounds on her new diet (no table scraps) and exercise plan (2x1 mile walks daily with Maribeth and chasing the geese in our park) MJL, on 16 November 2010 - 12:37 PM, said: I may be only 26...But I learned long ago that females (of every species) are like that. When they actually open up their mouth and bark at you, they either want you to paint, move or do something LMAO MIKE...How are things healthwise ? Any results to report?
  16. Sorry to admit, but I am not much of a Christmas person (long story) but I do like Johhny Mathias' version of "Oh Holy Night"
  17. First Chiquitta took over my favourite napping spot... Now she has commandered my favourite chair so she can look out the window... I swear...between kids and cats and dogs, ya can't have anything nice...
  18. Clever...I used a piece of swimming noodle...cut a slit half way through lengthwise...inserted transducer cord...then wound duck tape around the noodle... I told you Cliff...I'm more than a pretty face...
  19. You beat me to it !... I still have mine with the original tackle that came with it... It used to pull duty as an extra icefishing rod when my kids were small and with my grandkids...
  20. I've been communicating with my Higher Power a lot lately for Jack (Nanook) and Wayne's daughter Jennifer... You are now on the list my friend... We still have some carp to do battle with...
  21. Thanks for posting that update Art...saves me sending a bunch of e-mails...
  22. Our old friend Dawg (GCD) makes his own out of bamboo...
  23. How is Costco for returns and/repairs/warrenties or do you have to take/send everything back to the manufacturer...Not necessarily fishing products...TVs etc... Anybody have experiences?
  24. My second-hand Shimano Curada Bantam series baitcaster (supposedly re-constructed) was seized up on the side for the secondary drag adjustment so Mark at Mark's Worm Wharehouse had his wife drop it off at Shimano in Peterborough for repair and cleaning...It seems the magnets were put back in backwards... Three days later and $8 and it is like new... I used it mostly for trolling but now it is good to cast with also...
