  1. Because Cliffs is evil, will do anything for investor profits and its good that somebody with real interest is trying to keep them in check. Also, the ontario gov is desperate for large projects like this and would give a green light to a mercury mine in the middle of lake superior if they could get away with it. This specific project could be a an environmental disaster if people in the public don't step up and hold the developing companies in check... Moonias and his people are the only public up there, so good on them for realizing that Cliffs are not only experts in mining, but also experts in taking advantage of people and land for investor profit. Follow Cliffs story a bit... They are so crooked and profit driven it is disturbing. If you read deep enough into the Spider takeover you'll see that Cliffs likes to bully and provide kickbacks to those with a "blind eye". I have no problem with mining, so long as its closely watched and respectful of the land. Most other mines up your way had better regultory monitoring and/or they were much smaller and have a far less impactful footprint than the Big Daddy chromite mine will have... Including the various other deposits in the Ring of Fire. Its almost like opening up ontarios equivalent to the tar sands. Let's get the economy going but don't poison everyone and everything in a 200kms radius please.
  2. Great photo of the boy with the huge bass! Nice fishing outing. Yeah!
  3. I like the Xraps and lipless Live Targets when casting for pike/walleye/bass because I can get good distance/depth with them. The same reasons why spoons are effective and easy to use when covering water and casting far. Lighter and awkwardly shaped cranks like the J-9's or reef runners don't really ofter good casting qualities. I am wondering what you, the OFC members, prefer to use when casting crankbaits?? I'm ultimately looking for tackle shop ideas. A "why" or "for xyz species" and size would also help
  4. Wow wow wow!! That's a great picture too! I bet it get framed soon.
  5. This all comes down to having a mindful and strong enough regulatory to ensure that these projects don't cause more harm than good. The way our environmental laws and agencies are getting stripped down, you can bet some cowboy companies are gonna take full advantage...
  6. BFW, you are essentially correct... This is how the world turns; we need what's in/on the ground. On the otherhand, I can guarantee you that Cliffs resources doesn't give a shart about the land... Our government based environmental watch dogs are being cut out to the point of uselessness by the Feds and so its good to have someonen with some kind of power, trying to ensure things are done appropriately.
  7. That won't sit well with Harper and his "maximum two year env assessment" scheme. I sure hope moonias isn't just doing this for the money and actually wants to protect the land.
  8. The banana certainly did not bring you bad luck. Great report!
  9. Don't forget about your canned beets, Joey
  10. Pretty crappy indeed. Usually when things go bad like that for me, you can add an additional broken item due to frustration. Your next successful trip will be that much more rewarding.
  11. That last fish is a doll! Sounds like your learning a lot about stream trout this year.
  12. I hope the jets stuff him in a locker and keep him off the ice. Thank god the jets already have a backup goalie in Mason
  13. Lots of goalies available from the islanders lockeroom. How's dipietro fro health? Maybe Nabokov gets moved?
  14. Some of the best real hooksets I've seen are from that vertical musky jigging video someone posted a while ago. Bondy if I remember was the guys name.
  15. Project Manager position available in North Bay for environmental remediations including emergency response. If you have any educational background in environmental, or have worked with soils/air/water, the company would be interested in reviewing your resume. We stop fuel from entering lakes...it's kind of fishing related hope all the mods are ok with this *sorry had to change the title, I misunderstood the mississauga position.
  16. X2 on good rain gear. Fish bite when it rains too, good rain gear will open up fishing opportunities.
  17. Great contest/post idea Mike! I've been following it closely. I wish everybody good luck in the draw
  18. No prob, maybe some musky earings will be in order I've never knowingly pulled a tooth from a fish, although I'm sure if there were fish dentists, I'd be good for business!
  19. I concur. They sure help homeade spinners last longer, otherwise they get used, put back in the bag and rusting to garbage. Here is a myth that came from my dad, even though its come true on several occassions, its clearly not a fact, as I've caught ling mid-day before. "The walleye fishing is over when the ling start biting." Often heard near dark while ice fishing.
  20. Not for bass, but for walleye fishing I have a rather aggressive hook set... Its more about the NOW reaction and making sure I don't miss the light inhale. Another reason I like very sensitive rods, at the first sign of weight or a tap I react... Double clutching has lost me too many fish. Compared to the fishing shows I'm probably only a 6 or 7 though hhaha, the way they set the hook is the same way Patrick Roy used to make simple glove saves look EPIC!
  21. That's exactly where my mind wandered too! Pure inspiration this report is.
  22. Send it to my GF, she'll make a cool necklace with it for you!
