  1. Yup, having a great summer too! Looks like nothing but fun times out in the wilderness for you
  2. First cast The action wasn't furious, but I did land a couple more nice fish. I like to target as many species as possible each year...Now I can cross largemouth off my list for the year. Next up: Lakers... I hope
  3. Welcome Jimmy! Look forward to reading your input and knowledge
  4. ha! I was thinking the same thing. They should use these photos on Sudbury's tourism website, maybe improve on a few things
  5. Great thread idea Dan! 1- I was reeling in my line, watching my lure as it approached the boat. Just as I was pulling my lure out of the water, a huge silhouette rushes up towards my lure, makes a huge splash in the water, jumps out of the water and..... fly's away! haha, I took me a few seconds to realize this was not a flying fish but a loon/duck. Completely messed me up for a few seconds, I thought I was losing my mind. 2- While I lived in Alert for a few months the local Arctic wolves would nip at our boots and snow pants while walking around. The first time I walked onto the tundra alone I was surrounded by this pack of 6 or 7 very tall wolves. They just eyed me out for a while and then turned. I later learned after telling my story, that the wolves were just looking for me to kick up some lemmings or rabbits from the rocks. Those are the two that come to mind
  6. Crown and anchor and cheaptackles casting competition would be great. Also try a hockey aim game. $2 for 5 shots. Set up a net with targets, each target worth a certain amount of points. The person with most points at the end of night gets the prize (a nice jersey or somethin). The competitive people will get suckered out of a lot of money haha I know I do
  7. Happened to me last year. When using 20lbs PP on med-light gear. The 20lbs PP didn't work well with my particular combo, I had a couple weeks straight of bird nesting. I switched rods and without really changing my fishing style (lots of twitching reeling in slack line) the 20lbs PP on med-light gear worked a bit better. I think a lot of the problem was caused by the rod design and the way it manipulated the line. The rod was designed for much lighter line. I've since switched to 10lbs PP, so far I've had zero issues with my med-light combo... The 30lbs is probably just the wrong line for the gear you have. Maybe try lighter pp or a nanofil line, or if you want to keep 30lbs, get a different combo for it.
  8. Here's one for N.A.W. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0N9Jh1NNdg8
  9. Saturday and sunday mornings I watch fishing shows regardless of how much the "suck"... Still beats all the other crap on tv. I hope he invites Dominic Hasek as a guest, points to a log, casts and pulls in a 5lbs largemouth
  10. Very cool. SOunds like it was a bit of an educational trip...mix that in with some dinner and your on top of the world Are you going to try deep another time....just to see what that was hanging on bottom?
  11. What do you make of the claim that nipissing used to have blue walleye before the population crashed and was stocked? Is this just mis-information?
  12. In the recent lake nipissing post it was mentioned that the current population of walleye are based on stocking efforts; that originally nipissing had blue walleye. Nnow, I'm guessing that the original "blue walleye" in nipissing was not the same as the lake Erie extinct population, but it still suggests a real and identifyable difference between the current blues and the yellows
  13. Haha, its easier not working with fractions. No sunburn... Actually wore a longsleeve most of the day...
  14. Right of ways can be fairly large depending on the situation... Utilities, lake shore allowances, size of road shoulder etc etc. Definitly check with the city and or property owners if your uncertain.
  15. If there is a city or MTO maintained road nearby then there may or may not be a "right-of-way" which is public land, which would possibly give you land access to the pond. However, the pond itself may be private property if, let's say, the owner created the pond by flooding his own land. I'm not 100 percent sure about water ownership rules though.
  16. Tired another new-to-me, small lake today and caught another mid-day walleye! Barely under 43cms. I'm loving these tea-stained lakes for daytime walleye fishing. The belly was bright yellow, the fins orange and when I got it home, it was staining everything blue. This is the bluest (word?) walleye I've caught so far. Thought it was very cool.
  17. Good ol' frenglish song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3SUAk0pEFg
  18. I like wholesalesports.com Not sure how truly "canadian" they are
  19. Ice fishing, its almost all I use for walleye. I don't as much in the summer, simply because I rarely use an anchor which makes it hard to jig a spoons. I always found aggressive, quick jigs to be the key to triggering them. They'll often hit on the fall... So you only notice on the next upward motion. This works for nipissing... But I'm sure it would work elsewhere.
  20. Cut off head, gut them, then stuff the cavity with salt, pepper, butter, garlic and onions. Wrap in tinfoil and bake at 350. Just one idea.
  21. This is the rare occassion OFC will not ask for pics
