  1. Losing a box of my jerkbaits would be about $1500+. Have to start taking some pics of my tackle for insurance.
  2. i've heard about this one a few times......LOL
  3. 2013 Bass opener is just 3 days away, excited? Here are some check list items we discussed at our meeting. You guys any more comments? - have your fishing license renewed and on your body - make sure you remember to tighten your reel drags after off season storage. - make sure your hooks are not rusting, change or sharpen if needed - pull of 10 - 15 yards on your line to make sure it isn't frayed or damaged - make sure to have some suntan lotion and bug spray in the bag - put a rainjacket or ponch in your dry bag - make sure your batteries are charged (electronics, cellphone, camera, etc..) - make sure your life jacket is in good working condition - if you use a auto inflation jacket make sure your kit shows green and under 5 years old
  4. lots of bugs...lol
  5. Sunline Super Natural Mono... best i've used and cheap ! $10 for a 330 spool
  6. fiskars .. easy to find and cheap!
  7. I have a bunch but haven't caught a bass pike and musky so far.
  8. Which reel??
  9. Punisher Jigs, Lightning Series, and Perfect Jig come to mind. They all can handtie with your favorite head and hook. I love the Owner deep throat hooks.
  10. Prefer the tourney pro. The non anti reverse and mag brakes are a turn off. I like the dual braking system.
  11. Looks like i lucked out and got my Orochi XX i wanted. The rods are selling good, not sure if they will last till the opener. Will be pairing it with a Alphas Ito. Once my parts come in i'll be out using it for walleye. LOL!
  12. the ones available at costco are pretty tight fitting for me not bad for the price, the lenses are pretty heavy thou.
  13. Good point Will, i never take off my Mustang HIT.
  14. Balance is the key to dobyns rods, hard to find a better balanced rod for the price. The new Megabass XX are very balanced too, i think even more than the x4 rods i've felt.
  15. I like zoom but it's important to use a plastic bullet weight infront. http://zoombait.com/2010/12/better-hook-ups-with-a-horny-toad/
  16. They are designed by Gary Dobyns and they are definitely not a fad. They have been in the US a long time and starting to get very popular in canada. http://dobynsrods.com/about-us/ The rods are above most USDM offerings and have excellent customer service. You have to feel the balance on these rods. Do a quick search on tackletour, UB, or BBC. Go to your local dealer and pick one up and try.
  17. The 765CB Glass shines with baits 3/8oz +. The longer rod allows you to cast cranks a mile. It has a nice parabolic bend but a strong backbone, hard to find in most cranking sticks. This rod shines with a fish on, I landed a 45" muskie no problem. Paired with a 7-8oz reel and it balances perfectly, amazingly light feeling. In my mind Dobyns makes one of the best cranking rods. I haven't tried it for spinnerbaits but i've read it's also very good. I've never used a powell rod, sorry.
  18. the dobyns champion lineup are my favorite.
  19. it makes sense if you break it by a door or stepping on it. the cases i am talking about are 1 year or less or even new glx and nrx rods that were broken during tournaments. they were told the break were not fishing related and refused warranty. they were offered 1/2 price on a new rod or told to use wild card. how would you feel about this after spending $450 on a glx or $550 on a nrx. after you use your wild card you are SOL. i try to stay away from gloomis products unless it's a rod that excels like the nrx893, nrx852, and nrx822.
  20. I have not felt or used the entire x4 lineup but judging the oneten stick and black elseil the xx rods are more balanced. The x4 are lighter rods though. I also prefer the cork grips like my dobyns and simax rods. I will be getting the 6'8" jerkbait special. The 7' flat side special was considered but fishing from the back of the boat often the shorter rod would be preferred. It will double as my squarebill rod. For cranks I use a 765cb glass and 733c for lipless and spinnerbaits. I potentially will buy the 7'5" and 7'9" rods.
  21. The bad customer service and warranty isn't only with NRX, it's all gloomis. The warranty rep now contacts you directly instead of your local dealer. You can have the dealer ship it in but the warranty approval is case by case now. Most likely the rep will call you and say the rod damage is not fishing related and charge you for repairs or offer a 1/2 price discount on a new rod.
  22. the current gl2 rods are very unbalanced and heavy. the guides aren't up to par for what they charge. you get a much better blank and guides on a dobyns savvy or daiwa fuego. as for warranty....try bringing a nrx in for warranty and they'll tell you it's your fault. i know of many many people this has happened too. they basically force you to use your wild card. if you can accept that....buy one. i just bought a new nrx852s. i think of nrx rods as $300 rods with a $200 replacement fee.
