  1. Thanks guys. John its the Starfish DLX. I did mount one holder on the small aluminum plate on the corner. The other one has a nav light in it. I'm gathering the gunwhales are a problem then for most mounts. Rick, do you mean on the stern wall next to the motor above the shelf that runs across the back? Is Ok to mount rods that far back? I figured it might be better up the boat a ways. Dan O.
  2. Fishing is as much about the people you meet as the fish you catch that's for sure. It just took me alot of years to figure that out! Dan O.
  3. I've got a princecraft DLX that has really uncommon gunales. The lip is over an 1.5" (haven't measured it since fall). I'm trying to find rod holders that mount to a gunwale that isn't square or round and it's quite a deep edge on the inside. Anyone found a rod holder that works and how do you install it. I've bought a Scotty rod holder and I'm wondering if I just need the back accessory that allows instalation. Thanks for any help you can offer. I'd take a pic but the boat's stored. Dan O.
  4. Never know what to say but I know I miss my dogs more than I do some relatives. Sorry for your loss but you did the right thing. Dan O.
  5. Well that explains why I had trouble renewing on line. My last name has a "'" in it! It's a conspiracy against the Irish I tell you! I think the first request I'll make when I call will be, " Can I speak to your supervisor please?". That ought'a cut the time for renewal in half. Funny story Rick.... uh Richard....uh Dick! Dan O.
  6. They must have known you were following if they started to run. Maybe the scare will deter them for a while. How soon do they pass that "new" law that says you're allowed to punch them out, I mean make a "citizens arrest". Dan O.
  7. Pittsburgh is too banged up to give Carolina any kind of game. Too Bad! What's with putting the backup in half way through the second period! Talk about mailing it in! Ottawa isn't helping the cause either. Dan O.
  8. Nice pics and thanks for the advice. Honest reports are hard to come by on SOME Boards! Dan O.
  9. Sorry for your loss but it's nice to hear you're healing as a family. Fishing has a way of bringing us through many of life's challenges. Dan O.
  10. Sounds like you caught it just in time! Get well quickly and take it easy as you start to feel better. It's tempting to do too much at first. At least you still have your sense of humour! Dan O.
  11. Wow that was stinker to watch! I know Anderson played well but that was terrible as an effort. Kaberle we didn't know how good you were and how the team would struggle without you. Phaneuf can't handle all the extra ice time and Gunnerson needs alot less time. Going to be a long way to the end of the season and Boston might get that top pick! Dan O.
  12. I understand your concern but parking is a huge issue around Simcoe. Driving out to park on the ice is kind of a must in some areas. The municipality (residents) has forced the issue with no parking signs. How would we access the lake if we couldn't park on it? Dan O.
  13. I don't think the Weather Network predicted anything like this. Global weather did but he was only one that I saw. Monday is supposed to be crappy as well I've heard. Dan O.
  14. Uglyfish take that tongue out of your cheek! Dan O.
  15. I agree your problem is like ammonia levels. The fish go dormant and stop feeding. You need a bio filter (over the side canister or undergravel filter) to reduce the ammonia unless you're using a flow through system off of the well. Dan O.
  16. I assume you're trying to teach swim up fry to feed. If the surface of the water is any farther than about 3 or 4" from the fish they will starve to death before they learn to feed. I had an in classroom hatchery for over 10 years and I learned the hard way (along with my kids). You need a floating hatchery tray to place in the hatchery (aquarium). It suspends the fish about 2" below the surface and they learn quite quickly. Dan O. I just watched your video. Those are free swimming fry. Ignore this post.
  17. If you genuinely own property up North or at least out of the etest area just change your driver's licence to that address. You don't need an e test if you live outside of Southern Ontario. Once you've changed your address just renew your sticker. It's being done all over the place. Oh and you can change your address back to your normal home address right after you renew the sticker. Dan O.
  18. Was there a classier player for the Leafs than Kaberle? Gilmour maybe but certainly not Sundin. It was nice of Kaberle to allow the trade. He's a free agent after this year anyway. And Sundin wonders why people never really warmed up to him (not me anyway). Dan O.
  19. Nice fish. Bookends! Are you in the Ottawa River below Ottawa or above? Dan O.
  20. How is the walking out there? I'm hearing the slush makes it nearly impossible to walk? Dan O.
  21. I find Walmart really disappointing. My impression before they arrived (in Canada) was that Walmart would have a great selection of tackle (maybe in the US). Canadian Tire is too expensive and even their selection varies depending on store location. I tend to go to my local tackle shop or Bass Pro. Dan O.
  22. I had a Honda CRV 2003 that I pulled a 17' Princecraft with and never had problems. I bought a 2010 Escape last spring and it does a great job with the boat. I like the wider tires and theheavier vehicle on the Escape for stability if it's windy. The all wheel drive works great on launches that are more difficult. Dan O.
  23. Thanks for pursuing this issue. The least we can all do as anglers is support your efforts with our own e-mails. Dan O. My letter went like this. After staying at the Hampton Inn in Barrie this past Saturday evening, I was most annoyed to drive down to BBP at dawn only to find new signage indicating I couldn't park in my usual spot. Apparently only residents can obtain the required permit to park in this area. I specifically stayed overnight in your area to go ice fishing the next day. I did shop at the new MEC store and we did have dinner in your area. I realize ice fishers are not angels and they can be noisey at times but I'm wondering why your Municipality would pass a bylaw that excludes the other residents of Ontario. I live in a sudivision near Fergus, immediately next to one of the best brown trout streams in Ontario. We have a constant flow of anglers from May until October. They make the usual noise as they arrive early and fish late into the dark. They do leave garbage and other unwanted "stuff" yet I have not petitioned my municipality to post all roads adjacent to the Grand River. In fact we organized (Friends of the Grand River) and had our Municipality build parking lots(with garbage kiosks) where possible to allow/encourage anglers in our area. We added signage to indicate access points. You can't find an opening in a Bed and Breakfast in our area once trout season opens. Our pubs are busy throughout the week with anglers after dark. This problem will not be solved with signage. You are just shifting the problem onto an adjacent municipality. People are now forced to drive onto the ice to park or worse to drive on the ice to an area they wish to fish. I would suggest Innisfill consider purchasing some land in areas adjacent to the lake so that as the population of Ontario continues to grow there will continue to be access to this great resource we call Lake Simcoe. Why not try to be proactive and utlize the resource to attract anglers? We all own Lake Simcoe not just the residents that are fortunate enough to purchase shoreline.
  24. Thanks for the report Steve. I go for the walleye but I can't resist the smelt. One good feed a year, works for me! Dan O.
