Hi all, With jack at school in the mornings i sneak off for regular, although shorter, fishing trips. Went down to Williams Bay on Lac Seul this morning and got to test out my 'new to me ' fish finder', works pretty good. Time was a major factor in my success rate today. Although i caught a nice mixed bag of species, the usual walleye tally was way down, I did not have time to head up the lake and I had in my mind that if I ran into issues there were no other boats around, cant say I would be too bothered about spending a couple of days on an island waiting for pick up(i go prepared) but Jack would not be impressed when nobody showed to pick him up . Here is a video from my morning.

Hi all, Got out Friday morning. A few showers were forecast....lol....so no surprise when i got to the launch lighting and thunder, torrential rains and near hurricane winds. I waited for an hour and the storm passed. The walleye were there in the hundreds. I could raise them off the bottom....but holy moly...could not get many to commit. Good way to refresh after a long night shift, but frustrating to watch that many fish on the finder and not get bit!

AWESOME FISH Bunk...truly awesome!

nice pic of your Dad. I need to get a 4x4 to haul small boats into lakes.

Thanks guys....just watched it again ...makes me smile too.

LOL...he also had two 5 minute MELTDOWNS while we were out....but he managed to pull himself together pretty quick which was good to see. I too laughed at that bit....he's was laughing the whole time he was reeling, he makes my day....constantly! I can only say that you and G-Man are inspirational. LOL...we are cheating though....you could throw a bare hook into some of these lakes and come up trumps. Thanks Chad....he was a real trooper that day....as the sun went down it chilled off real quick....but his enthusiasm remained. At one point he wanted to tie his own lure from his own 'Taco' kit ( he calls his tackle 'Taco'.......i think it has something to do with my accent that he copies) I suggested it would not work, he pipes up that he needs to try and then find out on his own if it works or not...."thats called practising dad"....LOL....fair point son....i'll butt out. Too funny Mike, never expected anyone to comment on my plumbing brands...but yeah....waited till it was on sale at crappy tire and swapped it out. I was also very happy i got that on tape....a real treasure me thinks. LOL...but the "heave....Ho" sounds are good....dont ya think?

That dinner takes 1st Prize!

Hi all, Jack made me proud as punch tonight, he caught a 21"er. We had a quick supper in the boat then he says we are gonna have a 'competition'. He sets the rules and off we go. After no more than 3 minutes pulling spinners......wham....competition over! Jack won! After a hilarious few minutes of me encouraging and Jack reeling, up to the surface comes a beauty walleye, the only one we got in the hour we had out there. Jack was adamant we kept it, and i explained that if he kept it he had to help clean it, he was up for that and dispatched the wally accordingly. He is still only 4 years old so the attention span for fishing is limited, but getting better. He certainly engages more with the task while he is fishing......and the competition thing was too funny...especially listening to him make the rules and list the prizes. At his request i had brought with us in the boat both his laser guns, his kids floating net, the blue pool net (he likes being a 'netman'), his pink marker bouy, 2 of his favourite sticks and his favourite stringer. I have found that the boat trips go smoother when he has stuff to do other than fish, but tonight he ate supper, fished and we went home. No need for most of the stuff. THAT'S MY BOY! Not many more opportunities for Jack and Dad adventures as the temps drop here, the poor guy got cold quick even with quite a few layers on but what a blast we had this year on the open water.

Good vid Ben. Still at Moosehorn? -
Great morning read Rich....thanks! You musky boys(and gals) are a different breed....lol.....guess i need to be catching more than fishing. Those fish are really thick/solid....must be fed well.

nice bass for sure! (nice looking boat too )

Its just tacos with fish as someone else mentioned....so really what you put in it is up to you. I like a load of weird #@#$ that most don't.....but try homemade bruschetta instead of salsa, shaved Parmigiano-Reggianno (expensive parmesan) instead of cheddar/tex/mex cheese, fresh italian parsley and cilantro leaves and a squeeze of real lime over everything. Here's a picture of one i made last summer. Like i said the capers, olives and pepperoncini are not to everyones taste.

Great place Chad....i also love that wood pile....really cool!

Roofs and fishfrys....sums my life up just about now.

Thanks Dave....i knew i could count on you to help...lol. -
Yeah...we kept some from the Lac Seul trip.....fishfry this Saturday ..........but all the rest from my second trip out were catch and release, the lake is relatively small and the fish mostly huge so i like to put them back.

Hi all, Couple of outings this weekend, one to Lac Seul and one to a lake in town. Went to LS with my neighbour Bob while he can still sit comfortably in a boat (surgery next week), and one outing by myself to a lake in town at the crack of dawn. Both went well, lots of big fish both outings. Fish were at the 22' - 30' FOW range on both lakes, the fish on LS in particular showing signs of the fall feedbag football shape. Jigs and minnows....BIG MINNOWS. Both days windy......water temps have dropped 15 degrees in as many days. We caught a few Bass at LS....they too were deep. LAC SEUL THUNDER SOME PICS FROM BOTH OUTINGS

20' to 45' FOW . I am not too familiar with that area of the lake, its a BIG LAKE, but as a general rule for myself, at this time of year for walleye, those are the depths i concentrate on and do very well at in other areas of Lac Seul. I am heading out to Lac Seul in about 1 hour so will post a report with depths locations etc this evening. Mid water humps, Rock to soft bottom and deeper sandbar areas have all been good, but for me the depth factor seems to be the most important common denominator. Some wicked good fishing this time of year......your wife got you a pretty awesome gift!

Fantastic outing...thanks for sharing. I have no idea what a TYEE is though....lol
-
Only time you are gonna need 40# for lakers on open water is if you intend lifting the thing into the boat without a net.
-
Braid is a good idea for deep fishing lakers.....get a better hook set (i.e. no stretch), like Drifter said....use a flouro leader of at least 3 foot. I like using micro swivels instead of line to line to reduce twist....but thats just me.
-
Nah...not a guide, 2 older gents (or not so gentlemanly as the case showed). I thought about calling the camp......but they know this happens already....just needed to vent
-
Hi all, Had a great few hours out on scout Bay (lac Seul). At one point though a camp boat...i am tempted to name the camp but that probably aint fair....comes right up and sits right in our swim between my buddy's and our boat, he starts to drift towards our marker bouy and is just about to go over it when i shout over that he needs to back off because he is about to run over it. He looks over the side of our boat, and looks at his buddy who shouts out...."its ok, we dont have any lines in", and continues to float right over our marker bouy..dragging at least another 15' of line off it before it disappeared under his boat and popped up on the other side. I was stunned into silence......
