my i-Pilot .........100%
-
Jigging for Lakers is one of my favoutrite things to do. Like sinker says.....good trolling motor or anchor are importantl for jigging lakers. preferably a trolling motor with spot lock (love my i-Pilot). You can try structure, but i also cruise the deeper parts of the lake looking for schools of bait fish then anchor up quick and jig. Sometimes i just move around the deep looking for actual fish arches, as soon as you see one...send the jig down and more often than not.....WHAM! If you get a calm(ish) day use your fishfinder like you would on the ice....drop the jig below the transducer and watch the action live! VERY ADDICTIVE WAY OF FISHING LAKERS.....BE WARNED! I use a good braid with 6' flurocarbon leader, as they can be spooky when straight jigging, attached by a micro swivel so it can get through the guides when you are trying to land it. Use of your electronics as described above will really help you to decide on what you attach to the business end of your line, as you will be able to watch how the fish react to whatever presentation you use, but jigs and minnows, 4" white tube jigs, jigging raps and spoons would be good to have on hand.....basically everything i would use on the ice is with me when straight jigging lakers. And my secret weapon.....brown color 1/2oz pill style led head jigs with a medium minnow......dunno what it is about the brown....but it kills them when all esle is struggling on numerous lakes we fish up here.

How do you think you'd do without your electronics?

Thanks Roy, it costs an arm and a leg now Jack is full fare on flights....but he needs to be there to see Gramma and Gramps. LOL...we ate a lot of mussels! Yup, history seething through every building it seems, our building has been around since the 1600s....it was an old nunnery to begin with, we have an old stone coffin we use as a flower pot that was unearthed on the grounds when they were ploughing the fields....the skeleton of the 400 year old nun disintegrated when the air hit it....COOOOL! Thanks Frank. LOL...i nearly ended up in Reims after taking a wrong turn coming off the ferry at Calais! Thanks Dan....you know to give me a shout when you are here though right? I can definitely sleep more than anywhere else when i'm there....a well needed rest! Thanks Matt! -
Congrats Chad...that sounds awesome....ENJOY....like you need to be told that....lol.

Good on ya Rick I think I know who you mean...but would lose my job if I mention names....so just say hi to anyone who says they know me. -
Hi all, Got out for crappie yesterday.....they were on fire! Also some walleye in the mix....all in around 2'-4' FOW.....flipping a 1/4oz jig and small minnow worked best....surprisingly slip bobber was not as effective. Could not get youtube to upload video....so just a couple pics and a short vid.

Hi all, So...story behind Ganoosh Place. When our boy was a baby, we started off calling him bubba. That morphed into Babaghanouj (that tasty eggplant dip) and was consequently shortened to 'Ganoosh'. Jack has taken Ganoosh to mean 'baby'....and he will say...."when i was a Ganoosh(baby)". We have been taking him to this little flat rock camping area on the Wabigoon chain of lakes since he was a baby.....so he calls it.....'The Ganoosh Place' So yesterday morning we were just sitting around....asked Jack what he wanted to do...he said..."why dont we go to the Ganoosh Place".....off we went. We got into a pile of hammer handle pike and i got one nice 13" crappie. Would have liked to have stayed longer, but the crappie were biting shy and concentration and patience was going to be needed to unlock their 'lockjaws'. With Jack in the boat, lunch to cook and a nap for everyone before night shifts the crappie escaped closer scrutiny. We had a great lunch, a mini adventure in the woods, and headed home, great 3 hour outing. pg.html][/url] Absolutely love summer! Hope for more camping adventures in the future.

Morning all, 2yrs ago today i quit cigarettes and today also marks the day 18 years ago that drugs and alcohol ceased to control my life. I have a much healthier addiction these days (fishing) which, the gods permitting....i will enjoy for longer than i would have if i'd continued with my more destructive, compulsive behaviours. So....if you are also proud to be a quitter...give yourself a standing ovation and a shout out on this post....who knows....it might just encourage someone else to be a quitter too Have a great day Simon.

Hi all, Finally got out in the boat for a good session. Was out on the lake by 6am with high enthusiasm but low expectations.....late iceout could have the fish anywhere than where they should be. Turns out they were pretty close to where they usually are just shallower (14' being the key depth all morning. Stayed for just over 5 hours and must have caught close to 15 walleye, none under 22" and the best at 30.5". With the water temperature between 48 and 51F the trout were out to play too and I boaters 4. Inbetween the Walters an Lakers the bass and pike came out to play.....got a really nice 40" pike! Only moved once when the walleye bite died, went in search for them deep but nothing there. Basically turned on the spot lock on the Minn Kota and the fish came to me...really needed a good session interest boat...and for what amounted to this years maiden voyage was not disappointed! All fish on large dace minnows and 3/8oz chartreuse jig...simple but deadly today it seemed. When I got home my boy was just going for a nap but he saw me pull up with the boat...that was it.....he wanted to go fishing...so after his nap we all headed to a local pond and had supper in the boat...while the wife and I threw topwaters getting a few pike and bass, while Jack netted the only walleye of the evening. WALLEYE, LAKERS, BASS and PIKE video , We all slept very well after lots of fresh air. Happy memories.

Hi all, Hesitated posting this, but then thought.....why? We all (well most) do it. I think its important that there is no doubt in Jack's mind how meat gets to the table. I have been trying to teach him about why we kill fish and other animals, we had months of debate why hunters were ok to shoot deer but it was not ok to throw rocks at them......some pretty philosophical debates ensued with my 4 year old Anyhoo, Jack has been given his own tackle box for Xmas and is loving having his own gear. He was very excited to see he had his own stringer. He caught the only walleye last night and was very excited to put it on the stringer. When we were leaving he insisted on killing it so it did not "flap" as this is "not kind". Catch and despatch and some less violent imagery from last night

Great morning on the water.....31" walleye and 41" pike...bunch of bass and lake trout too.

Cool pics Brian....Gizmo is a cool little character for sure.

so far in Canada i would have to say straight jigging for trout and walleye in deep water, ice fishing for lakers and whitefish with a jig aint to shabby either , so i guess i would have to say JIGGING.

CHEESY MUSIC ADDED! SICK! LOL...Hero 3 Black Edition.....what a pain in the arse it has been....really buggy....loads of issues....no battery life....freezes up.......finally the firmware update seems to have solved some of the issues.....but now it gets too hot to touch.....not good for my very expensive 64gb Class 10 sd card. Yup....it has its own waterproof case, i need to work out how to mount it somewhere in the boat. I think i'll stick to walleye and trout ....but might get a couple next year for the smoker...heard they aint bad.
