  1. This happened to me in England……sucked because not much you can do…..once you go 'at fault' you are pretty much at their mercy.
  2. "Can hardly blame companies for maximising their profits, it's what their shareholders pay them for. Can blame the government for not looking after the voters' interests though, because that what we pay them for…………………….. I venture to suggest that our interests are not being looked after" Saw the above statement in a reply comment to a BBC News article about the Energy Minister (conservative) in the UK suggesting the breakup of British Gas ( a privatized public utility)., made me think of this thread, so i posted it.
  3. I love my canon point and shoots, Sony PAS take good quality snaps too.
  4. Wow…those are some nice smelt! We aint allowed to catch those here, i think the MNR turn up in the middle of the night and disappear people who even speak the word….oh no…i'm doomed

  6. Yup lots of trimming to do. But. Worth it once the Mediterranean shrimp and whitefish hotpot is done.
  7. Hi all, Cant believe that this is only my second time out ice fishing this year apart from a few brief half hearted attempts at the ice shack. Weather felt like summer….a balmy -20C, but no wind. Got chillier later when a 10kmh wind whipped up from the SWest. 35' to 40' FOW. 1.5" white/pearl YUM LPT tubes on 1/8th Oz jigs. Fish were finicky but every now and then an unstoppable freight train would smash the mini tube. When you saw it coming you had to hold the bait still or it would pull out of the attack and head back to the bottom, they did not want to chase at all today. No trout today, but we'll be back for sure. I ended up with 8 on the ice, about the same got off. Just what the doctor ordered after such a long time off the ice. (best when HD is selected)
  8. Well i wish you all the best…..good show. I'd watch it if it was on….i don't care for any of the other shows on at the moment….maybe fish in' Canada…..thats about it.
  9. Awesome show…..when is it airing…?when can you come up here to film
  10. Thats what i suspected…but i have heard people time and again attribute it directctly to temperature.
  11. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone can explain this to me. A lot of times I hear ice fisherman complain about/blame/atrribute a slow bite to very cold weather. I have often wondered how that can be an accurate assessment, i thought the ice would offer some insulation from the cold so unless the fish were spending most of their time in the first few feet of water under the ice temperature differences would be mostly negligible…….anyone care to enlighten me on this? maybe atmospheric pressure associated with a very cold high pressure system might weigh on the ice or something, but the actual temperature thing would affect the fisherman more than the fish….no?
  12. You were there? You didn't say "HI"? WTH!! Supper was hmmmmmm. After over an hour waiting for a meal I was served what has to be the smallest portion of fish and chips ever!!!!! $14 for this………….??!!?? I had to put my hand in the picture for scale….no…i do not have a deformed left hand the size of a catchers mitt. I have to say it was absolutely delicious…..but then again after waiting over an hour i would have eaten the scab off a dead toad and enjoyed it…..Valhalla Inn gets a mixed review from me i'm afraid. LOL…uh…yeah…the big blue ones the size of dinner plates. But its absolutely shocking the state of the oceans. When i was a kid the inshore reefs were abundant and thriving, sea fans, black and red coral fans, sponges. Puffer fish, rays, moray, parrot fish, too many different species to name. Unfortunately all the coral you see in this video except one picture at the end there is DEAD! bleaching by the sun (depleted ozone) pollution, traffic have done an irreversible job on reefs world wide.
  13. Hi all, Holiday was AWESOME! basically my mum's 80th Birthday bash. She had the time of her life having the whole family together in one place….does not happen often. She also had her nearest and dearest friends turning up at different points too. Only had a week which did not leave much time for fishing. Got out only once really but it did not disappoint. Went to a little bay I know. The wind had been howling straight in there all month at upto 65Kmh(i was watching the weather channels for months before i left). The stories i was hearing from locals was fishing was very slow because of the wind, however, that did not matter for where i was. I got 2 small fish for supper and missed 3 MASSIVE fish, snapped 30lb braid like it did not exist. Was not bit off either as i was using 40lb test wire leaders. I also know the fish were huge because every 10 minutes or so i was treated to a spectacular dance of giant trevalli, huge barracuda and frantic baitfish as the latter tried to dodge the raids of the former. Did not get much action on video unfortunately as i did not notice the link from my Gopro's remote was down . My point and shoot camera also got broke . Lost the most effective lure too 2nd cast…..a large 9cm rapala Clacking rap in pearl/ghost. Found a baitfish washed up on shore….now wonder they liked the Clacking Rap i was using……….. Anyway….here is a video of that morning. a great little break from stupidly cold NWOntario, and an absolutely amazing time shared with my mum and family.
  14. Like others said….what are you fishing for?
  15. Tundras are good. I would have got one but figured i would have passengers on trails lots so went with a utility/trail hybrid.
  16. I played a game called bandy when we lived in Sweden…its like a cross between european field hockey and ice hockey, played on a rink the size of a soccer field….now that took some flooding. Awesome game by the way….also play with a ball not a puck.
  17. how long do i have to be here before i can say its cold? I can't speak about yesterday or tomorrow Dan. Don't mean to sound gnarly…but ….-40 feels the same no matter when or where you born….lol.
  18. Hi all, Had it all planned. Was going to go trout fishing today. Only one chore to do, easy….front porch area needed snow blowing…then gone! Hmmmmmm, what i forgot was that the guy who plows our yard after heavy snow IS ON HOLIDAY 3 hours later at 1pm i'm just about done with the snow removal, only problem is the wind is up to around 25kmh and temps have dipped to minus 20c and dropping. Seems to be the pattern here this year, gets warm enough to snow then too cold to go out and play in it. Well i was not going to let that stop me. With fishing off the radar (again) I took the opportunity to clear out the garage…then jumped on the snow machine for an evening stroll round the block.
  19. Hi all, Just going through the mountain of videos i have, found this gem from Jan 2011! I posted it before….but had to again…sooooooo CAYOOT!
  20. Yup…have a 3TB WD USB hardrive which runs my iMac's Time Machine (auto backup) and a 4TB WD USB for double up of all my media. Most of my videos are on Youtube and so i can always download from there, a lot of my pictures are in photobucket, so i can get some back from there too if the worset happened. I am in the process of making DVDs for my mum's 80th birthday that will include a lot of our favourite Jack videos from birth till now, so will have a hard copy in existence elsewhere than our house and send some copes to other relatives. After reading Joey's post decided just today to buy some CD-Rs to copy entire photo library for another hard copy….cant be too safe. We would be absolutely devastated to lose our Jack pictures and videos. Fishing videos?…whatever….can always go again and most are on Youtube, but Jack will only be young once.
  21. Thanks man, it was great, the time just flew by! Yup, being grateful for -20C is normal…lol….boy how my "normal" has changed. We head to antigua for a week next week…..quite the swing in temperatures for sure….Enjoy Florida you lucky bar steward. Thank you. she does have a sister but she is evil, selfish and calorifically challenged…..lol….she lives in St. Thomas too. Thanks, it really is nice having the shack out, quite the community on the ice road…great fun.
