  3. Hi all, Got out for an hour last night, very….very….very slooooooow. This lake used to produce frantic action with fish in the 27" - 30" range common. Not so for the last 3 winters. Rumours are its being netted, but until I meet the man with his nets I won't speculate. Anyway…got one 14" and one 17" which will be enough for lunch at the iceshack today. first pic of the tourney entry was blurred…had to wait till this morning to try again….lol. 14"er Two shots of the same 17"er
  4. Hi all, Jack got into his first big ski.
  5. Ugly sticks are all right if you need indestructible, but if you want something with a bit more finesse go Shimano.
  6. Yeah….wife got that one….but i will be sure entering one this year of at least 27"……its rare i finish a year without at least one 30" walter!
  7. Thanks for the replies guys. What kind of rivets should i use? Impression?….its a medium size town like any other. Seems nice enough.
  8. Hi all, I cracked my Otter sled and wanted some advice on which bonding product would be best for this job. The plastic is fairly stiff, but the bond will need to be somewhat flexible and resistant to cold (up to -30C). I have some aluminium sheet which i will be bolting on afterwards as a 'bandage' to protect the crack, and also plan to re-enforce the split rim by bolting 2 fixing plates across the split at the top edge, one over one under. Anyways…i'm pretty sure what i have in mind will work (won't necessarily be pretty) but not sure out of all the 1000s of bonding products would best suit my needs for this job…….Thoughts? Thanks in advance. Simon.
  9. Yeah, a buddy of mine picked up one of these last year on sale for $40 at Menards in the USA. Its 18qt. Hook up the BBQ propane, couple 3ltr oil jugs and 20 minutes later….fish and chips. It works outside at -25C too. [/url]
  10. Hi all, Got this at the shack the other day, (well….actually my wife caught it) our supper plans changed on the spot……………….. WE TURNED ONE OF THESE………... INTO SOME OF THESE……………... With a few fries and a nice bean sprout coleslaw………..YUM! Its been a while since we had fish. need to get some more
  11. This happened to me in England……sucked because not much you can do…..once you go 'at fault' you are pretty much at their mercy.
  12. Exactly the stuff i'm trying to avoid while fishing.
  13. "Can hardly blame companies for maximising their profits, it's what their shareholders pay them for. Can blame the government for not looking after the voters' interests though, because that what we pay them for…………………….. I venture to suggest that our interests are not being looked after" Saw the above statement in a reply comment to a BBC News article about the Energy Minister (conservative) in the UK suggesting the breakup of British Gas ( a privatized public utility)., made me think of this thread, so i posted it.
  14. I love my canon point and shoots, Sony PAS take good quality snaps too.

  18. Hi all, Cant believe that this is only my second time out ice fishing this year apart from a few brief half hearted attempts at the ice shack. Weather felt like summer….a balmy -20C, but no wind. Got chillier later when a 10kmh wind whipped up from the SWest. 35' to 40' FOW. 1.5" white/pearl YUM LPT tubes on 1/8th Oz jigs. Fish were finicky but every now and then an unstoppable freight train would smash the mini tube. When you saw it coming you had to hold the bait still or it would pull out of the attack and head back to the bottom, they did not want to chase at all today. No trout today, but we'll be back for sure. I ended up with 8 on the ice, about the same got off. Just what the doctor ordered after such a long time off the ice. (best when HD is selected)
  19. Well i wish you all the best…..good show. I'd watch it if it was on….i don't care for any of the other shows on at the moment….maybe fish in' Canada…..thats about it.
  20. Awesome show…..when is it airing…?when can you come up here to film
  21. Thats what i suspected…but i have heard people time and again attribute it directctly to temperature.
  22. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone can explain this to me. A lot of times I hear ice fisherman complain about/blame/atrribute a slow bite to very cold weather. I have often wondered how that can be an accurate assessment, i thought the ice would offer some insulation from the cold so unless the fish were spending most of their time in the first few feet of water under the ice temperature differences would be mostly negligible…….anyone care to enlighten me on this? maybe atmospheric pressure associated with a very cold high pressure system might weigh on the ice or something, but the actual temperature thing would affect the fisherman more than the fish….no?
