  1. I'm with Rich on that...LEECHES ARE KILLER FOR BASS...the smallies up here love 'em, just toss one into weed on a small jig and BAM! i have not used them but a fishing buddy of mine does all the time...i just prefer topwater lures for bassin'. As for Gulp Leeches outfishing live leeches, well i know its not a scientific experiment, but me and my buddy were out a couple weeks back for 2 hours in the evening for walleye, he had Gulp leeches and i was using live Leeches, i outfished him 10-1.....would have to repeat that a few times to be fair to gulp...but did not make me wanna run out and spend $22. He lost three of them too, and my live leeches i used 5.
  2. weird post...but too funny....Rich .....side effects...LOLOLOLOL
  3. WOW again FD...first huge walleye now those beasties!!! cant believe you have had probs getting people to take you up on your offer to take them out fishing....like i said if i was closer i would jump at the chance! Great Pics...keep 'em coming.
  4. I have a Yamaha 30hp too, sometimes the gas bulge is easy to squeeze but i give the gas line connections at the motor end a wiggle and it works great!
  5. Great thread GCD! I often wondered what that rule was for too. I mean.....cant be about deep hooking.....i use live bait whilst icefishing...ive had both rods go at the same time more times than i can count, especially when Trout fishing. But who knows how or why that law came into being...seems nobody on here so far knows why. Lol, love some of the dumb laws posted....Cliff....do you own a horse? anyway....not to hijack your thread GCD i found these dumb laws from england..... 1)It is illegal to avoid telling the tax man anything you do not want him to know, but legal not to tell him information you do not mind him knowing 2)In the city of York it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow 3)In Liverpool, it is illegal for a woman to be topless except as a clerk in a tropical fish store
  6. Welcome Mr.Mike, its true, lots of pics please.
  7. WOW!....she's a beauty!!! Thanks for sharing FD. You have given me some ideas for catching in that lake i was in last week, i got everything ...pike, Lakers, bass and perch but could not find the walleye, maybe some of the big 'hooks' i saw on my Lowrance at around 40' drop offs weren't just trout Anyhooo....congrats on the fish, i dont hate you ....much...beat my best one so far by 3"....but size doesn't matter...right?
  8. Those are some nice bass Rich. Did that sucker put up much of a fight? I caught one by accident icefishing in March....it really went for it!!! Cant wait to see the video. Thanks for posting.
  9. Looks like a great time, wish my dad lived closer than England, but my father in law loves to fish when he comes up here. Great report, great pics, thanks for sharing.
  10. Almost one of everything.....no walleye. I never trusted that matt Hayes guy.....lol
  11. Great stuff cliff, first the young 'un gets a prize and the fishing derby, now kickin' dads butt, not long before she has her own TV show......she'd be better than the muppets we get now on TV fishing shows!!
  12. great report and pics, chain pickerel ....dont get those up here, very similar to pike?
  13. Hi Y'all. Well i took my downriggers out of the garage and dusted them off so to speak to give them a go out on Thunder Lake on Thursday. Thunder Lake is not the best Lake Trout venue, but i've never skunked there for trout, its just they are small. The advantage is that it's access point for the public is in Aaron Provincial Park which means easy boat ramp/dock which for a novice boat trailer person(getting way better at it though) is great. My wife joined me for this trip, as did a local kid who has been through some rough times who loves to get out fishing with me when his health permits it. Anyway, the absolutely useless weathernetwork got it wrong as usual...but in our favour for a change...it was meant to be cloudy with isolated thunder storms, but after 1/2 hour in the boat the sun was out and the wind was down....maybe not perfect for fishing...but certainly the weather my wife likes when in the boat. AAAAAAH.......SOME SUN AT LAST.......PERFECT! I have used the downriggers on my boat before last year and we did good, however i always went with my buddy Matt who is very experienced using them, this was gonna be the first trip out using them "all by myself" ...lol.....with no help as my wife and young friend definitely dont know anything about them, so i was really hoping it would not be a disaster. I found the edge of a reef we fished last year and after lots of messing around and birdsnests we finally started the 3-5mph troll with 2 downriggers set up by 3pm. Well it was not a disaster and it looks like Matt did a good job of teaching me how to use the downriggers because after 5 mins just after a slow turn to go back the route we just travelled when the first rod did the tug...tug movement...pause...then bam! snapped out of the clip. I have to admit it was a real struggle for me but i let the kid grab the rod, he reeled it in with out too much of a fuss....and when it broke the surface i thought it was a pike, we were laughing ....then realised it was in fact a healthy 25" Laker!!!!! Wesley was very excited as i had taken him icefishing in april for lakers but he had to leave because he felt ill so never caught one yet, so he wanted his picture taken with it.....soooooooo....he holds it up for the shot...and....the fish does one flip and SPLASH....back in it went oh well....C&R. As we were sitting there i had forgotten to reel the cable up on the other rod, when i yanked the rod to release it from the clip, i realised there was a fish on that rod too.....not bad for the first five minutes...a double header!!! This one was a little on the small side too , so it went back as well, i was now pretty confident we would get more. I THOUGHT IT WAS A PIKE.....I WAS WRONG....LOL <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/MVI_1445.flv"> THIS ONE WAS PATIENTLY WAITING ON THE OTHER LINE About 5 mins after that Wesley was not feeling to well, so my wife agreed to get him back home, about a 40min round trip, so i dropped her at the dock and said i would return in 40 minutes to pick her up. I headed straight back to the reef and gave it another go, i had one really small one almost the same size as the lure and and a better 20" one. i could see my wife sitting at the dock in the distance so decided to keep the 20"for supper as i knew she would want to target some bass and pike on spinners. NOT MUCH BIGGER THAN THE LURE! <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/MVI_1451.flv"> A FEW MORE INCHES FOR TEAM#4 AND OUR SUPPER! PATIENTLY WAITING FOR ME TO GET OVER THERE After that i stowed the downriggers and we headed of in search of bass and pike, i actually wanted to get a walleye which are few and far between on this lake but the ones you catch are usually of epic proportions. Well after about an hour slow trolling around with worm spinners with live minnow and only getting little perch i gave up on the walleye quest and joined in with my wife who was having great fun with bass and pike...here's the pics from the rest of that aftenoon. COULD NOT GET ANY 'EYES TODAY, ONLY FEISTY LITTLE PERCH MY WIFE WAS HAVING WAY MORE SUCCESS <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/MVI_1471.flv"> I THOUGHT I'D JOIN IN THE ACTION.....NOT QUITE AS BIG AS THE ONES MY WIFE WAS CATCHING WE CAUGHT SOME NICE PIKE TOO <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i263.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/vishuscirquel/MVI_1469.flv"> I GOT A 'BIGGER BASS' IN THE END Good day, shame wesley is still suffering his ilness....hope he gets better soon.
  14. Those do look awesome Danbo....but ya better use a wire leader at over $50 .
  15. Should add a 'drowning guy' section in the tourney. He could even hold the Tourney Logo up for ya while you took a picture...that would solve the probs i have with the fish flapping all over it.
  16. Thanks for the replies guys. Terry, i just recently changed my settings to auto depth range and auto sensitivity and what a difference it made....started to work more efficiently. GCD i was checking constantly yesterday whilst downrigging for trout, i had it set to 100 feet because i know from last year that the deepest point where i was fishing is 85 feet deep. I am a bit concerned that the transducer may be faulty as well as being wrongly/improperly installed because it seems to fade to nothing when i'm on soft bottom as opposed to rock, even in fairly shallow water at a standstill. Every now and again it works brilliantly so i too am convined that is is not correctly installed(the transducer. I have played around with it lots but cannot get it to work properly all the time. It absolutely does not work if i go anything over 5mph. I would have liked to install it on the hull itself but as you can see from the picture there is an aluminum panel blocking access to fit mounting screws, hence the aluminum flat bar mounting bracket. I took my lead from the old fishfinder/transducer mounting that came with the boat package so am guessing that it would be unwise to try and remove the panel blocking access to mount direct to hull if the last guy decided not to...especially since the guy was obviously skilled in metal work/and welding as he built the casting deck himself. I have tried to mount it between the ribs to avoid cavitation, but another issue seems to be that when moving at speed, the shape of the hull creates a wash that leaves the transducer almost out of the water at the back.....i could go with one of those mounts from Cabelas or Tite-Lok and try and get it lower under the boat with less resistance than the flat bar...waddaya think? Failing all that i could just buy a bigger new boat with all the trimmings......lol.....in my dreams. Here are some pictures Roy....
  17. Hi all, wondering if anyone can help. i have an Lowrance X67c fishfinder....i have it on a clamped bracket on the transom. it works well in depths upto 50 feet, although it does freeze up every now and then, but as soon as i get over 60 feet the bottom dissappears. I knw it can register these depths as i have used it ice fisahing in over 100 feet of water, although i appreciate that is while stationary...any pointers for me as to the problem??
  18. Thanks for the replies guys, yup the fish fries were endless for 2 days...cant bare to look at another walleye fillet for a while...lol. I will try drop shoting when i next get into mile and trap lakes JB, oh yeah...JB my accent sounds british cuz i am....lol...hence the name "Limey" angler.
