Talon is actually a pretty large lake. Where are you staying? Your best bet for large musky is on the North side of the lake heading towards Camp Connawongo (Redbridge). The North shore has lots of jutting points, small islands and submerged islands "humps" that are good for musky. The walleye fishing is pretty good as is pike fishing. If you get bored with the musky trolling/casting try the deep basins in the middle where depths can reach 150'. A deep diving crank bait might even land you a nice laker.

The lakes you indicated in my area Nip. Nosbonsing, Talon, Restoule area Temag. etc. are all nice. Temag is absolutelty beautiful! These lakes can be difficult to fish for a newbie to the area. Where ever you choose ask the lodge owner for a few different spots to try and also ask on this site once you choose. My suggestion to you for this area is South Shore or Callander Bay of Lake Nipissing. The lake is big but these areas are smaller to explore and the lodge owners will most likely point you in the right direction and help out with depths. How big isw your boat. That may impact your decision making. PM me if you want specific info. on a lake in this area.

I have the platinum chip for my HDS5 but so far I have only been out on Nipissing and it is not one of the high def lakes. I am still figuring mine out. I have seen a few vids on youtube but I'll maybe order a better one Last time I was out I had the screen split in 3 and was all displaying the same thing. Got that figured out but was a real piss off.

Just before I was born (1975) my parents lost a son who would have been my big brother. He was 4 years old and fell down an embankment through a hole in a fence and drown in a river. My parents separated and divorced 5 years later. I believe they never accepted it and my mother always blamed my father as he was watching the boys (my other brother was 2). My mother raised us (3 boys with my little brother born in 1977) and pushed us hard through swimming lessons. We all became lifeguards and swimming instructors. I know my mother suffers twice each year on Brent's birthday and on the anniversary of his death. I have 2 boys 7 years old and a 16 months. It seems no matter how careful we are with them danger is always just aroud the corner. Gerritt thanks for being so genuine. My thoughts and prayers go out to that family and yours.

Stoty, If you're willing to drive the 4 - 4.5hrs to Temagami then Finlayson Park is a gret choice. Temagami is huge and the fishing is excellent. I will also put in a second vote for Bowslayer and agree that restoule is a good option.

I built one too. used wood dowling and clothes line. it rolled up and fit nicely in a compartment. Then just clipped it on and through it over.

Billy Bob this discussion is moot. Your $16 case of beer at 3% - 3.5% is almost equal to or $38 case at 5%. About 15 years ago me and 2 buddies went down to a country music festival (We-fest) in North Dakota (I think) and when we pulled out of the store (I think it was a Pamida) we had over 100 beer each for 3 days. We ran out on the Sunday afternoon and had to rely on the consession stands for the Sunday night shows. As you can tell by my recollection I can't remeber all the details...maybe it was all the beer...but I think we had a good time. I ended up climbing into the wrong tent and passing out between 2 strangers sleeping in a double bag. They were some pissed when I finally awoke to the dude yelling at me and the girl pulling my hair. .

I just scanned all the posts and want to add another one for FORD. I have a 2004 Explorer Sportrac. 4x4 and 16" tires but only a 4' box. Back seats as same as an Explorer which is good becuase we have 2 boys and a dog. With the towing package I have been able to pull everything I have tried. I had a tent trailer and that was no problem. I have a tandem axle 4x8 utility trailer and with a full load of fire wood or bricks it was no prob. As well as my 17' Starcraft with 90hp Yam. IMO it is the absolute best utility type vehicle on the road today. The 2010's are gorgeous. That being said, living in North Bay I would buy a crew cab F150 in a heartbeat if my wife would let me. P.S. my favourite vehicle before this one was my 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport with the 4.0 litre H.O. engine. I'd drive on the lake through snow that was over my hood and pull an ice shack to boot.

fisher, walleye are biting really well on Callander Bay now. most success is in 17-20 fow and using worms or minnows.you can find them off of the points, along the weedbeds, and the mid water humps. If you get the right drift wind you will find them close to bottom. bottom bouncer will work but is really not necessary if drift is slow. just a split shot and a go getter (in line spinner) or even a hook and live bait with the split shot up 10-15" form the hook. Check out the Slow Death hooks they will getthem biting. problem might be catching keepers as a lot of slot size walley have been caught this summer. It will probably be mostly slots for the next couple of years.

Thanks T.J. I took a minute every morning and entered while I was at work. I'll reply to your PM with my info.

I have a 9' punt boat (flat bottom) and I put 2 bar-b-que wheels on it. They are on the sides where the molded metal handles are. When it is turned up-side down I can roll it on the wheels with one hand. There are alot of old bar-b-que's that get thrown out or at the scrap yard. I just use hitch pins on the bolts(axles) and they can be put on or removed in seconds. They are not in the way at all so I can leave them on when fishing. I'll try and get a pic of them.

My Vacation Tackle Box - Part One - Georgian Bay Pike
Nipfisher replied to BillsTheBassMan's topic in General Discussion
I mainly fish Nipissing and it is very dark (silty) water. Firetiger works well here for pike. In the one shot I have 3 of the Johnson's Woodchopper baits. They sit on the water and with the slightest pull the rear prop spits up water. I have had some nice fish on them. I'm looking for a 48"-50" this year. I have a buddy who is a guide and I think I'll actually pay him. -
Luc, Thanks for the offer and the advice in the PM. I'll be heading to the trailer in Sturgeon tomorrow with the wife and kids after work. I'm leaving my boat at home again due to the lack of water at our marina. I will bring my quad however and go scout out a few places on Sat where I can bring my inflatable and 4hp. We'll hook up some time though. I'm good most weeknights except Tuesdays and when my wife won't let me go.

My Vacation Tackle Box - Part One - Georgian Bay Pike
Nipfisher replied to BillsTheBassMan's topic in General Discussion
Here is a few shots of some of my pike stuff. Not too many spinner baits. Mainly crankbaits and about 80% are Rapala. These 2 shots are of spinners I had made for me. They'll get wet for the first time in the next couple of weeks. Spoons are in another tray -
I fear this day is not too far for me now. My 11 year old border collie lab cross is not the spry dog he once was. We have had 2 children who have climbed on him , poked his eyes, and pulled his whiskers and all he'd do is get up and move. Mister Bear is playing in the big doggy park in the shy. My dog Duffy will be there too. My condolences Jer.

Inuvik, North West Territories and the Arctic Ocean
Nipfisher replied to AzuluSpookd's topic in General Discussion
Nice story and great pictures. My mom did her B.A., B.ED., M.Ed., and Principals courses in the 80s and 90s. She was a single mother of 3 busy boys and did all of her courses from about 8pm - midnight after finishing her 2 jobs every day. She was a teacher and a Figure Skating instructor. She will retire in 2 more weeks at the age of 67. She fought breast cancer over the last 2 years and is looking forward to retirment. She is not going to N.W.T. to help those in need but she is still super in my books. I am a Child Protection Worker with Children's Aid Society in North Bay so I think what your mom is doing is pretty cool too. Cheers to you and your family. Blair -
I recognize that lake! I've seen that funny looking blue area on a lake in Quebec somewhere. lol

Mattawa Adventure Camp and fish finders
Nipfisher replied to cassandra's topic in General Discussion
This is not really secluded but the cottages are decent. fishing is pretty good too. It is right in Mattawa. http://www.sidturcottepark.com/ -
we're still catching them in Calander Bay. 2 more tonight. Lots of perch, rock bass, and sheepshead. The Shads are in the Sturgeon Falls area but not in the city yet. About 7 boats in front of the water treatment plant today.
-
Right now the shads are just starting. They are all over the shore line in the west part of the lake. Calander Bay is still Shad free. The walleye are not that deep. Just 2 weeks ago we were getting them at 11 feet. Now try 15-20 fow. Jig on the bottom with worms or drift / troll with a spinner or harness. There will be lots of boats out just fish near them and watch. Maybe bring some binoculars.
