Off the Dock Toons T-Shirt Contest - Guess the Weight!
Nipfisher replied to Harrison's topic in General Discussion
9.3187 lbs. No idea what the conversion is. -
Jim, No one should take offence to this thread. It is an honest question on how to buy legally caught walleye from a legitimate source. They will keep netting and selling and this will not hinge on your purchase. To answer your questions.....There are 2 places that I know of that sell the fresh Lake Nipissing Walleye. One is the fish market at the North Bay waterfront (old boat) and the second is the a Fresh Meat and Fish store which is just a few minutes West of North Bay on the left hand side of the highway when heading to Sturgeon Falls. I have heard tremendous reports about the quality of the fish and meats (awesome steaks) from this store. Next answer is restaurants....there are 2 on the highway between North Bay and Sturgeon Falls. One is the Eagle's Nest Restaurant and gas Station. They have "fresh pickeral dinners nightly" and there is also another place called Chester's Shore lunch that I belive sells fresh pickeral. There are alot of restaurants in North bay that lists Fresh Nipissing Pickeral on their menus. I assume there are some places in Sturgeon and West towards Verner. Good luck. Don't give up on Lake Nipissing walleye fishery. The West end is challenging this year due to low water but Callander Bay and South Shore areas are still producing. My friend had a 30 walleye outing on Callander Bay last week, and my neighbor caught a nice 27"er at Iron Island on Friday. Blair

SLAMMER-tastic couple of days! Aug 11-13/2010
Nipfisher replied to diggyj's topic in General Discussion
diggyj, Have you tried / marketed SLAMMERS up North at all? There is some excellent SMB and LMB in the North Bay area and Nipissing is an excellent smallie lake? Can I get my hands on a few so I can try them here? I could show them to a few local bait shops with contact info. -
Great pictures I love the scenery pics as much as the fish pics. Great report. I'm sure you appreciated Leslie's efforts to deal with her pain and spend lots of time on the water with you.

The New York Football GIANTS. Got lucky a few years back still re-building.
-
A buddy was out tonight and landed 30 walleye in their boat. They only fished 3.5 hrs. Only 2 slot-sizers. All others under the slot. Bottom bouncer and a worm. They kept 11 (3 anglers).
-
Yep. The Bonfield launch is free.
-
I've heard the fishing is slower then past years but they are stillcatching them. Watch out for rocks. The water is pretty low and even regulars have found new hazzards.
-
The launchg is downtown Bonfield. There are a few signs. Close to Sampson's SkiDoo dealership and Yogi's Snack bar.
-
I've had the pleasure of staying at Sand Bay Lodge. The accomodations and fodd were excellent. Pretty pricy for a fishing trip but perfect for a family vacation.

Lefroy, Scooter is giving you the right advice. When you launch just go to your right (West shore) there are weeds the full length of the bay. If the wind is blowing in (from the south or south east) it makes for very enjoyable drift fishing. Just find a depth and drift. The other option is of course trolling. There are alot of big pike and some very big muskie in Callander Bay. I have a 34" (23 lbs.) mounted on my wall from there. Bass are all over and drive me crazy when fishing for walleye. Of note the walleye fishing has been good all year in Callander Bay. The water levels have not affected the bite at all. If you find a shoal or a rocky point work it with a jig and live bait and you should find some. I still hear reports of 30 walleye in a day. Pat attention to the SLOT SIZE. It is different then on Talon. Read the regs and the exceptions.

Just built a Texas Twister/ Ladder Golf game

There is also another version of the washer game called Texas Horseshoes or Hillbilly Horseshoes. It consists of 2 decks about 3' long and about 1' wide. Each deck has 3 holes (6") in it in a row from front to back. You place the decks abouth 6' apart and try to toss the washers into the holes. The scoring can be veried but it is usually 1 point for the front hole, 3 points for the middle hole and 5 points for the far hole. Also some points are awarded for all of your washers staying on the deck. Here is a link to the game. http://www.ultimatecampresource.com/site/camp-activity/hillbilly-horseshoes.html -
Where is up North and why would you ever move South? This board is a wealth of knowedge and some members from that area will be sure to help you out.

Love the "Downtown Magnetawan" shirt! Is it considered downtown if there isn't even a traffic light? The poutine is good at the snack shack beside the lumber (hardware) place though.
-
Maybe some of you have seen this before. My wife and my oldest son bought me it for Father's Day 2 years ago.

Cool Dave, Glad to see you are logging in and checking threads. I guess they draw your attention when your name is in the title. Cheers.

I'd like to go in 2011 at 40% off. Mr. Geary will take real good care of us OFC'ers or we'll post negative comments about him. I expect at least 801 walleye!

Here's what I do - What do y'all do?
Nipfisher replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
I am a Child Protection Worker with the Children's Aid Society in North Bay. Been doing it for almost 9 years. Basically, I manage anywhere from 22-28 families (depending on caseload) every day, every week, every month, and strive to keep the children safe in "their" homes. Then at the end of every day I go pick my 2 boys (7yrs. and 17 mo.) up at day care and try my best to be a good dad and husband. Some days it is a challenge to give to my own family. I am a member on 3 fishing boards and I find support and fellowship (ladies included) that helps me get by. Fish porn aint too bad niether. I thank you all for all your posts and pictures. CHEERS. -
Call it what you want. It is still a report about fishing no matter who posts it. What I want to know is there a discount for OFNers....like 50% off?
-
Hey TC1OZ, Would you rather see Jay in the bikini and Alicia in the sweater? Nice trip. I remember those days, before the girlfriend became wife and our 2 boys got in the way lol.
-
OUCH. I guess not everyone takes debit. My wife always tells me to keep $20 in my wallet.....just in case.
-
Hey Luc, No such thing as a bad day fishing.

We had a 1986 Merc 25 and it was the WORST motor ever. We would start it in the driveway before each trip then travel to the launch only to have it refuse to start. It was at the mechanics several times and always cost $60-$100 each time we had it in. On a freaky note...we were wayyyyyy back in a remote bay on Lake Temagami and as we landed at our camp site we noticed smoke coming from under the cowling. As I lifted it off the entire electrical area on the right hand side of the motor was on fire. I disconnected the gas and threw it to the front of the boat. Then I jumped out into the shallow water and began splashing the motor. When it was done and cool I hooked up the gas and it fired right up. Even though all the wires were melted together it seemed to work o.k. We got it all re-wired when we got home.

Bernie, I have the brand new platinum chip for my Lowrance HDS5 and I too had alot of difficulty getting any accurate detailed info. My buddy has the same unit and same chip and he says he has it working perfectly. I have only been out a few times but I think there has to be some more accurate charts on this chip for Nipissing. I know it is not one of the high-def lakes but seriously I think I am more accurate looking for familiar landmarks.

Solo, I'm from Kirkland Lake which is only 40 minutes from Rouyn. All of the lakes East of Larder Lake are absolutely beautiful. I'm guessing because it is Quebec live bait (minnows) are not allowed?
