I think its a great idea. I also like uglifish idea on products field tested by members,ie raingear,waders, rods reels etc. nothing better than field tested products coming from the horses mouth.

Did some looking around and I think these boats are made in Arizona. They made 15 to 20 foot runabouts and bowriders back in the 80;s to nid 90's but all they make now is performance boats and catamarands also some deck boats in the 20 foot and up sizes

G'day all heres my situation. I live about a four hour drive from the nearest tribs and would really like to try steelhead fishing for the first time. My problem is where to go and when. I have been keeping an eye here for info but it seems pretty scarce. That either means that its to early or all the steelie fishers are having so much fun there not saying anything. If the later is the case I don't blame them. I have been researching this species all winter and am ready to go. Since I am about 100 miles west of Ottawa, it will probably be a 2 day trip for starters, hotel gas etc so I would like to hook up at least once. I am not asking for anyones honey hole, just an op to catch these awesome fish. I am in good shape and a hardcore fisherman so walking lots and pounding the water is all good for me. So if anyone can help me by putting me on a trib thats closer to Ottawa where I might have a chance of catching some steel would be greatly appreciated. You can pm me if thats better and any info will be classified. Loose lips sink ships and my lips are sealed thanks.

Hey Shorelunch. I was in the market about 4 yrs ago and I just happened to be walking past a pawn shop and checked it out for some bino's. They had at least 10 different kinds. I ended up buying the Bushnell 10X50 for about 40 bucks. Still have them and they work great. You might want to try there before springing for a new pair.

I have tried running numerous times and still can't figure out why it is so popular. My father was a successful runner back in his day. He was my track coach in high school. Maybe it was his training methods that turned me off from running. He was a gung ho grunt in the infantry for 25 yrs. Running up sand hills and all that stuff. Ten times harder then the old bag skate used by my coaches in hockey.

Grabbed the canoe yesterday afternoon and headed out on the Ottawa River. Fished the west facing sides of some islands. No luck for 2 hrs. Tried to get to the backside of the islands but they are still full of ice. As I approached the end of an island with a nice rocky point I figured this would be my best spot to hook up. Paddled real slow around the point and just as I was starting my turn to go back across the same point my float went down with authority, yes fish on. I got it to the canoe quickly and it was a 24 inch northern, nice and healthy and released. Hopefully better things to come. I still can't get into my favorite pike bays yet but they should be open in a matter of days now. The wind came up at about 3 p.m. and ice started moving all over the place so I headed for home. I was using a 8 inch live sucker under a float with my home made live bait rig. Single hook through the nose and a treble hooked in the top off the back connected with 30 lb picture frame wire on a steel leader with a few split shots. I used the same sucker for about 4 hours and after one fish he is still alive and waiting to be used again. Man them suckers are tough.

Why not fight the fish? After all thats what your there for. It would be nice to get one rise out of him and when he decides he doesn't want to play anymore, and goes for a run. Put the brakes on em with all your rods got and snap goes the line. Then get your heart beat back to normal and retie.

Glaucus. the buzzbaits with the spoon and the red dot.... very interesting to say the least. I love using buzzbaits for them early risers.

Been out on the Ottawa River four times so far in the canoe and nothing so far. All the main channel is wide open but the bays are still iced over. Was out yesterday and it was actually hot, about 14 degrees. Have been trolling stick baits and spinners as well as some casting. Probably a bit early but that doesn't matter. To bad the season closes at the end of March. I might go out today and play around in the islands, maybe the quebec side shore is more promising.

I have been using Trojan 27 series batteries in my bass boat for about ten years now. My last pair lasted about seven seasons. I think they run about 150 a piece. The most important thing is the type of charger you use to charge them. I use the dual PRO CHARGER. Its made in the U.S. and is 14 yrs old and still works flawlessly. I put ENERGIZER 27 series in my 26 ft cruiser 2 yrs ago and they work really good as well with no issues. They sell them at wallyworld for about 100 bucks apiece plus the 10 bucks off for your old battery. I have tried INTERSTATE batteries as well and never got more than two seasons out of them. Maybe I just got bad batteries, but I would not buy them again. JMHO.

Get yourself a good float and some live bait rigs and float fish/slow troll with big 10 inch dead suckers. Thats if you want to catch Big Northerns. I have been fishing Northerns for 40 years and I haven't found anything thats works as good as this set up. I get the dead suckers from my local bait shop for 3 bucks a dozen verses 12 bucks per dozen for live ones, and to be honest with you the dead ones produce more fish. Just my honest opinion.

Fishing can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. Since you are just starting out, I would suggest you keep it as simple as possible. Things you need for yourself, polarized sunglasses, hat and raingear. The first two items are very important, moreso when fishing with another person. I have had my hat and glasses taken from me by errant casts. For your boat, a rod holder is handy, and a fish finder. They start at about 100 bucks, and will give you everything you need to get started. Depth, structure of bottom etc. An electric trolling motor is a nice touch as well. As far a tackle goes get an assortment of crankbaits for various depths for casting and trolling. Some plastics, tubes jigs and worms in various colours. you will need some terminal tackle as well, swivels, leaders, line, sinkers, hooks etc. Some extras you will need are 8 inch needle nose pliers, a landing net, a camera, hand towel, sun screen and buy yourself a fishing journal since you are just getting back into fishing this is a very valuable tool for you to log all your info and logistics of your outings to reflect on at later dates. As far a rods go get a couple of spinning combos, 7 foot medium action rods, will run you about a 100 bucks apiece, and most of all go and have fun, don't get discouraged if your first few outings don't produce fish just being on the water will give you a buzz, at least it does for me. And last but not leaast, THINK LIKE A FISH. Good luck, hope this helps. Tight lines.

Thanks Nomad. I am not familiar with the Streamside rod, Who makes them and how much are they and where can I look at these. Ottawa has a really poor selection when it comes to float gear from what I have seen so far.
