  1. Picked up a bottle of the PC creamed horseradish today. Tasted great on my roast beef sandwich.!
  2. Got a brand name to look for? Dennigers in the hamilton area has the best selection of Horseradish I've found, but nothing worthy of note.
  3. Truth be told it is a struggle for me too, but one I do every time I'm there. I'd love to know what they do, because obviously there's is produced in-house, to have the punch it does. Great stuff!
  4. OMG! Great subject! Horseradish that tries to lift the top of your head off, and makes the eyes water is the best! The Keg has had the best I've ever had. They will give you a small container of it to go, if you ask. I will have to plant some this year. Any recipe you can share would be appreciated! My favourite beef meal is a nice filet mignon. But the second is prime rib au jus, with horseradish and roasted potatoes and veg. I sure hope this thread provides an answer to the question by Big Cliff
  5. Thanks to the mods for indexing my late update to the OP post!
  6. Angler who purposely killed a musky he caught on the Detroit River receives harsh penalty for action We reported in September about an encounter on the Detroit River where two anglers video taped another angler who caught and purposely killed a musky and threw it back in the water. They confronted the man. Their video led to the identification of Edmond Parent. Parent was sentenced and fined on March 4, 2015 by the Ontario Court of Justice. Parent apologized for his actions publicly on video in this article from The Windsor Star. Here is the full release on his sentence and fine. Release from Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry: A Windsor man has been fined $1,000 and is banned from fishing for two years for a fishing violation. Edmond Parent pleaded guilty to failing to release an under-sized muskellunge (musky) he caught in a way that caused the least harm to the fish. In addition, he is banned from fishing for two years. He cannot possess or associate with anyone possessing any fishing equipment on any body of water or adjacent shoreline. Court heard that on September 3, 2014, two anglers were fishing on the Detroit River at the mouth of Lake St. Clair near Windsor when they saw an angler in a boat next to them catch an under-sized musky. The individual struck the musky on the head killing it, and then threw the fish back into the water. The anglers captured the incident on video and posted it on YouTube. Conservation officers started investigating after they learned of the video and were able to confirm its authenticity. With the help of the public, officers identified Parent as the person responsible for killing the fish. The Detroit River is located in Fisheries Management Zone 19, where anglers with a sport fishing licence can catch and keep one musky that is 112 centimetres (44 inches) or more, while anglers with a conservation fishing licence cannot keep any muskies caught. Justice of the Peace Salma Jafar heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Windsor, on March 4, 2015. Anglers are reminded that they must immediately release any fish they catch that are illegal to possess, such as fish caught of a prohibited size, during the closed season or in excess of the catch and possession limits. This rule does not apply to invasive species like gobies which should be destroyed. For further information on fishing regulations, please consult the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary, available at ontario.ca/fishing.
  7. Be proud of her, as you have been, and suck it up. She has chosen a different path, and the harder you fight, the worse you will come out of this. To compound the issue you have stepped in between the mother and her child. Truly 'No Mans Land! Your daughter came by her determination honestly. It is what it is. And for sure it isn't worth trying to show who has the final word. IMO.
  8. My error! Reverse the order of the egg wash and the dry combo mix. It's been a while since I've fried anything! Damn doctors orders! But if I last longer then all is well.
  9. I agree with all, re frying fish. My favourite was roll in flour/baking powder/corn meal mix, dip in egg wash, and fry in lard. Of course it's bad for you. So was the 2 or more beer that it took to accomplish the task! It's just the frequency/week or month that you do it, plus the amount of fish/beer consumed that becomes the issue. Moderation is the key. And I'd be willing to pick up any extra perch, whitefish that is available! lol
  10. Lets face it; Catching salmon in the lake with levelwinds is really a simple task, so long as you have the drag set correctly, and an overactive thumb does not try and stop the fish on a run. Many years ago I used to charter for salmon on Lake O. When out with my friends we used the Shimano mooching reels, instead of the levelwinds. It was a lot more fun. Used them on the same Fenwick rigger rods, and had no issues with the rods. You should enjoy the catching a lot more with the mooching reels.
  11. I was going to add an experience from many years ago, but Mike's just negated anything I could offer
  12. Thanks
  13. Outdoors Store bit the dust after a mild winter. They invested all their profits in ski clothing and equipment. It was a mild winter, and all the ski hills and suppliers suffered. It was the end for Outdoor Stores. Many of their suppliers bit off a huge loss too! A bonanza for the consumer though. Dominion Hardware was another consumer win, but supplier loss. Anybody remember that one?
  14. Can you explain the bed of celery/onions/carrots and what they are used for? Is it just for flavor of the gravy, and then discarded? Or do you blend it up for a base for leftover stew?
  15. Medium rare Prime Rib! Served with au jus gravy, and horse radish that clears the sinuses with every bite! Awesome! That roast looks delicious!
  16. Actually the photo I posted was from yesterday, but no matter. Careful if you go.

  18. Sounds like a great place to be with this winter. Good luck and take photos!
  19. A dozen roses, a card, a nice meal. After 45 years, it still pays dividends
  20. If the previous recommendations have not made up your mind, I too have the Lifeproof case, and will buy no other. Their warranty assistance is excellent. Jon summed it up perfectly with the pros and cons. Spend the money, get the Lifeproof. No regrets.
  21. There are a few 'memorable' anglers, that have made their mark on Canadian TV, in regards to fishing, on the tube, and in our awareness. Red Fisher and Daryl are one and the same IMO. Izumi and Reno/Angelo/Pete are different. With Daryl, you always knew that he was going to be cooking and eating the catch, at the end of the show. Sometimes in the middle as well. Thankfully, no poems yet.... The sponsors were quick to reap the benefits, and equally as quick to withdraw their favour. Good for Daryl! It provided him with an income, and retirement that most of us dream of. The rest of us can wish that we had the ba!!s to put our families survival on the line to pursue the dream. Worked out well for him then. Probably never again for anyone else. Just my opinion
  22. Drone Wars! Coming to a park, neighborhood, area, near you! I used to shoot trap and skeet, a many years ago. Might bring a new concept into the game?! don't even need to call ...pull!
  23. Well Done I know it's not the last trip for him.....or you this year!
  24. Presently I don't need a fishing license, cause I have attained the 'over 65' factor. But, I pay for licenses in a few states, and another province. Believe me what Ontario charges is more than fair. I only fished one day in Ontario, in 2014!
