If you are going for bass, my go to spots up there are 8-10 feet of water. Look for weedbeds that come near the surface. Fish senkos, Texas rigged and if winds are calm go weightless. Also fishing weeds close to shore in about 3 feet of water also produces. Good luck!!

I have a Princecraft 14' Yukon with a 25hp Merc on the back. I get about 40 km/h top speed. Towing a kid on a tube with two others in the boat it goes down to about 32km/h.

Bobs Lake - Family Cottage Week/Fishing Report
ccmtcanada replied to hutch4113's topic in General Discussion
Looks like a great time was had! A nice variety of fish in your report!! -
I rented a cottage up on Haliburton Lake with family last week and was very excited to try out some jigging for lake trout. My brother came out all the way from Alberta, so I was hoping for some good fishing! Armed with info from a board member here, I went and got some heavy jigs and plastics. With my new Lowrance installed on my boat, I was really looking forward to trying for them! My boat really likes being dock side instead of in my garage!! First morning out, we headed to deeper waters than I'm used to fishing! We were marking some nice fish anywhere from 60 feet and deeper, so down went the jigs. I have to say, the new fishfinder worked amazing for jigging! The frustrating part is we saw this all morning long!! Seeing a fish chase your jig over 20 feet and then losing interest is exciting....but really maddening when they aren't biting!! We tried slowing the retrieve....cranking faster...and nothing on the jig!! After not having luck with that, Fishnsled came up with his boat....and more importantly his downriggers!! That first morning we jigged and again had no luck...so we went searching for some bass waters. Finally we were able to catch some fish! First fish of the trip for me Will gets his first bass of the trip! That was it for Wednesday....we headed back to the cottage and gorged ourselves on steak!! Thursday morning, my brother, Will and I head out for some lakers...this time using downriggers! That was finally the ticket as we caught a few that morning! We kept one for dinner and then went off in search of some more bass... We had a great day on the water that day!! Will headed home after dinner that night and my brother and I had plans to hit the lake for more bass Friday morning. Instead of searching for them...we headed right back to the spots we found where we pulled fish the day before. We only had a few hours to fish so we didn't want to waste any time out there! This rock bass hit like a smallie!! LOL That was it for the fishing part of the trip. All in all we had an awesome time fishing new waters! If I end up renting again on that lake I'll have a much better idea of what to do...as it was we spent a lot of time searching around. Was great to have Will come up and to see my brother. He doesn't get out this way that often!! I'll end this report off with this panoramic shot. It really is a beautiful lake and amazing scenery!!

Here's an excerpt from another Suzuki owner.... "It appears at this point that the problem was being caused by the motor picking up air while being run under certain conditions. Lowering the motor by one mounting hole seems to have corrected this condition. According to the technician, small amounts of air were likely being sucked into the cooling systemespecially when running across a light chop at high speeds. Once inside the motor, the tiny bubbles would coalesce to form air pockets, which in turn would create hot spots along the cylinder walls and in the head. Hot-spots equal steam, and steam in the system creates a temperature spike and eventual overheating. Shutting the motor down (to cancel the alarm and the guardian mode) allowed all the water to drain. When I would restart, the air pockets would be eliminated as fresh water was again flushed through the system." Another thing I read was if the pee stream wasn't too warm, then it could be a faulty sensor. Hope you figure it out!

I agree not to finance if possible, which is why I asked what his budget is. From there we can suggest options. Either way, boat shopping is exciting!! Lol

As everyone else has said....go used. What's your budget?

Boat Trailer Spare Tire - What Size/Type to Get?
ccmtcanada replied to fishinggeek's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like your tires are pretty old. Have you considered getting two new ones and then you'd have two spares. There should be writing on the sidewall that tells you what size they are. -

What humminbird model do you have? If it's a 581i you can borrow mine and see if that powers up. Or bring yours to me and I can test it. Even if it's not the same model it could work if the power supply cables are the same. Either way works for me.

I got my boat out of my garage last weekend and started it up as well. Need to install my new HDI 7 Elite and it'll be ready for the water!!

Ice out watch! Post your updates here.
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
The mild weather sure has done a number on southern Ontario! Looks like Simcoe will be pretty much clear after a few more warm days and some wind! Scugog and Rice look clear. Kawarthas are well on their way too. Now...what's scaring me are the threads about water levels!!! -
If You Were Limited To One Question To Ask....

Great shot of southern Ontario. Looks like Scugog is pretty much ice free. Rice is breaking up quickly and parts of Sturgeon as well. -
I heard the news via email from Leslie as well. So very sad. He fought this horrible disease bravely. I didn't know Kevin well, but my visits to Lakair always included great chats with him. My deepest condolences to the family.

Modis satellite view from yesterday. You can see the west side of Lake Simcoe is clearing as well as large spots on Scugog. You can see the latest satellite shots here....some days are cloudy and you don't see much but the clear days have awesome shots. http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/modis.php?region=o&page=1

Thanks for the update Lew. Just terrible news. My thoughts are with Kevin and Leslie. Lakair is one of my fishing highlights for sure. Great memories!

Hope you dont have anything in for repairs
ccmtcanada replied to spincast's topic in General Discussion
One good thing Spincast is their warranty and repair is all done by the same "company"....Geek Squad. That should make any pending service easy to deal with. It's the stuff that was just dropped off for service on the days leading up to the closure....who knows if that stuff ever made it out of the store. -

Best Buy will honour all existing repairs, warranty work, gift cards and online orders. Since Best Buy is the parent company all their systems seem to be integrated so that's one good thing about it. Showing up for work Saturday to closed doors with no warning at all....well that just sucks!!
