Your overall success in fishing for Pros' and non pro's?
ccmtcanada replied to bassfighter's topic in General Discussion
Agree with what everyone is saying...experience, natural talent...all comes into play. Have I been skunked this year? Oh yeah...lots of times, on shore. One thing that hasn't really been mentioned is confidence. For me, confidence in your lure, your line, your setup, your skill is as critical as all the other things. -
Thanks Glen...LOL...I'm busted...here's a pic of that same fish...

Bly and I were really hoping to have another banner season shore fishing for walleye, but it just wasn't in the cards for this year. Our numbers were way down over the past two years, but we managed a few. We figured out that we only went out about 1/3 of the number of times we did in past years. The weather and water temps close to shore didn't help. The waters were very warm til the end of October...we needed much colder water to bring them close to shore. Also, the abundant bait fish we've seen in years past were scarce at best!!! Couple those things with just plain crappy weather, big waves, chocolate milk waters, and ultra clear waters on most of the days we did make it out, it just wasn't our year. Here are a few pics of some that we did manage to trick into striking out bait...only posting the 10+ pounders for the report. Sorry about the photo editing on this pic. I was up north helping a friend winterize a cabin when Bly went out. She managed the heaviest one of the season for us. A 32" 13lb 4oz beauty! I didn't get my first one until the first week of November. She beat my fish by a mere 2oz...LOL. This was also 32", and was 13lb 2oz. Another night, when I was practicing for a gig with a band, she pulled this one in...a friendly person passing by took this pic for her. This measured 29.5" and was 10 1/4 pounds. Bly also managed her personal best pike on one night we were out there. When it hit, we knew right away it wasn't a walleye...it was fighting wayyy to hard...LOL. This PB was 33" and weighed just a tad under 10 pounds. All in all, we had a great fall...all those muskie we caught more than made up for the lacking walleye this season!!

Oil is bought by speculators on the world markets. All current indications are pointing that the price for oil will remain low for a while. Until the world economy is out of recession, demand will remain lower around the world. In the past, when OPEC says they are going to restrict supply, the price always is driven up by those same speculators. When the US states it's oil and gas reserves, if they go down then the price of oil also rises. For the past few months, OPEC has tried to stabilize the price of oil by announcing cutback on production, but they've had no effect...it keeps dropping. Same with US reserves...nothing seems to be stopping this slide right now. Gas prices will always be variable, but I think you are safe for the holidays....it may go up a little, but nothing like what we saw this past summer.

LOL...must have been a slow news day. My brother out in Red Deer knows it's a slow news day when the local news' top story is something that happened in Toronto!

Stan....can't make out the brand from the online picture....but the description does say it's approved by Transport Canada. The new sale started today....so this may not be on sale anymore...

Well, Fishnsled came over this morning...I helped him install a car stereo, and he helped me winterize the boat. With those chores completed, and snow flurries in the air, it seemed like the right time to decorate our Christmas tree. Our little one did most of the ornament hanging, but she wanted to be sure to put some fish/fishing ones up. Here are some pictures from this afternoon. Let's see your fish/fishing related decorations!! Happy holidays everyone!

Demand is down, but that's not the only factor. Speculators drove the price of a barrel of oil up for the past year or so, causing the raw materials for making gas more expensive. A barrel of crude has dropped from around $148 down to $41, so it doesn't cost as much to buy that raw material. Since the world is in recession, the outlook for the demand isn't looking great, so speculators are shying away from investing, thus the price is low. The retail price is reflective of those two reasons, but also the value of the Canadian dollar in relation to the US dollar. You may think that since gas was at it's peak over $1.30 per liter...the cost of oil has dropped around 70%, that gas should also drop by 70% as well. Since the price of oil is purchased on the world market in US$, when our dollar drops it still 'costs' more for us. Also, there are fixed costs in production that don't move no matter what the price of oil is at, or what the value of our dollar is. I'm not an expert...this is just how I believe it works...if anyone else can clarify anything I've written, it would be appreciated.

They need to break even so I'm figuring they took the $200 from Johnny's policy and put it on yours. Guess they figured what were the chances you'd both be on the same public messageboard.

Thanks...seems Toronto to Oshawa along the 401 may get lucky...places close to the shores of Lake O is supposed to get mostly rain/wet snow. Still going to make the drive slick and slow in the morning, but better than that freezing stuff and snow.

Hey Shawn...MTP was nowhere near BOQ as far as I could tell...LOL. So the number was 220ft back?? We went as long as 175ft back...guess we should have let more line out. Oh well...one for the memory banks!!
-
Like I needed another reason to fish the tribs....lol. Great news...I have yet to catch a coho!
-
Thanks Shawn...FnS and I talked about you while we were out there and how you seem to be in tune with that area. I kept asking myself, what would Shawn do out there...and even though I tried everything I could remember from our trip and tips you've given others on the board, there was nothing working. So, what would Shawn do??? Catch fish...that's what....lol.
