  1. Thanks everyone! We had a blast up there. The tubing was a highlight for sure! GBW - I don't remember screaming like a little girl, but I can't say for sure! Lol Brian - you are right...it was a needed vacation! Going to Alberta to visit my brothers for a week in 3 weeks, so looking forward to more vacation time!
  2. I took my little one to the shores of Lake Ontario last summer with some hammers and chisels and we went rock/fossil hunting. Ever since then, she's wanted to collect some more rocks, so a quick google search on rock collecting led me to Bancroft...which is apparently the mineral capital of the world. It's also where I have relatives, so a quick phone call to them and I found out my cousin was at his cottage on Paudash Lake for the weekend. He gave me a call and said to come on up!! We got home from Sturgeon Lake on Friday...did some laundry and we left first thing Saturday morning for the cottage. Their cottage is in an amazing location...and the view from their back balcony is breath taking... After a quick lunch, we headed out on my cousins pontoon boat to the sandbar for a swim and to cool off a bit from the hot sun. My aunt and uncle came over to the cottage and we were treated to a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings! My little one then grabbed my fishing rod...headed to the dock ahd caught a few fish from there... She then tried her hand at swinging a golf club! She was having such a great time there, and after the campfire we had, she was pooped out fell asleep minutes after her head hit the pillow. The next morning, my cousin and I planned to fish for some bass. This is the view that greeted us as we head out in the morning. The day before, as we meandered in the pontoon boat, he was scoping out new weed growth for spots to try for some bass. We did very well for the few hours we were out there. We boated a few dozen bass...here's a pic of the nicest ones...released at the dock. While we were out, my little one was having fun feeding her cousin's "pet" chipmunk... After lunch, it was rock collecting time! We drove 20 minutes to the Princess Sodalite Mine Rock Shop. They have an area in behind the store where there is a "rock farm". We ventured out in the blazing heat and humidity and picked out some nice samples. We had a pick hammer to break apart rocks to see what they looked like on the inside and placed the ones we liked into the bucket. The farm is free to go out on...and you pay by the pound for whatever you want to take home with you. Back at the cottage, she laid out her bounty! With it being so hot and humid out, my cousin took us out tubing...it was both mine and Syd's first time and it was an absolute blast! We left Monday afternoon...and the first thing she wanted to know was when could we go back there!! Looks like two weeks from now, we'll head back for another weekend. Back to the grind for now...it was a MUCH needed vacation!
  3. It's been a while since I posted a report. I've been out a few times this year, but havne't taken any pictures. I had a week off work and me and my little one decided to make it a cottage/fishing adventure! I answered ecmilley's offer for renting his cottage on Sturgeon Lake and we stayed there last Wednesday and Thursday night. It's a GREAT place to stay that's right on the water and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a place on that lake. We arrived Wednesday around noon and unpacked our gear...this is the view from the front porch.... We wasted very little time as she wanted to get out to fish! We first headed to the government dock, which is just a few steps away from his cottage. She caught dozens and dozens or nice little panfish here. She's finally at that age where she can bait her own hook and take her fish off as well! We decided to take a break from fishing and we went to a little beach area to cool off from the hot sun. After catching fish after fish here, we decided to drive down to Big Cliff's place for a visit and to fish from his docks. We were treated to lots of big panfish and an amazing sunset. Here she is with a bass she caught on a spinner. Here's one I caught (yes I did catch a fish or two as well...but she beat me hands down for numbers!) As the sun went down in the sky, she said "WHOA!! Daddy!! Look at that!!!" A few shots as the sun finally set... On Thursday, we got up...had a little breakfast and we decided to rent a boat to see what we could find. I didn't care about what we caught...as long as she had a great time and into some numbers! We were out there for over 4 hours before the sun got too hot and we came in for the day. She is loving using spinners to catch fish...here's a few of her fish from the boat. We stopped in at Big Cliff's dock again to stretch our legs...and yep...she wanted to fish there again! After we ate dinner, she wanted to catch a few more at the government docks...here we are with one of our many double headers for the evening. If you are looking to take your little one somewhere where the panfishing is constant, I'd definitely suggest Sturgeon Lake...it seems that you can always find where they are hanging out...bring lots of worms though!! You'll need them! We packed the car on Friday morning, but left the rods out for last. (before anyone says anything...that is HER tackle box...not mine!! LOL). She wanted to fish a little more before we hit the road for home. Part two coming up...
  4. A few Paudash Lake bass from Sunday morning! Full report coming...
  5. Check this website...it may give you a general idea.... http://www.hydroone.com/stormcenter/
  6. You are a good man Cliff!!! So your place fared well I take it? Do I need to bring work gloves on Sunday??? Lol.
  7. EPIC!!!!!!!!!! Great stuff guys!!!
  8. Oh no!! Please keep us updated Dann...I'm really hoping all will be ok!
  9. That's the thing...it's very weather dependent. Check the bug forecast on theweathernetwork.com for the area you are looking to fish ahead of time....but as others have said, prepare for the worst and hope for the best!
  10. Wow Terry! I feel your pain! This is why I just changed everything to Bell...I've been a rogers customer for decades, but when I called to find out what can be done about pricing and a competitive quote from Bell, they said "We'll match Bell's price for 12 months with a contract". I said "Bell offered 2 years with no contract". They said "call back in 11 months and see if we have a promo". I said "No thanks...see ya later!"
  11. Very glad you got the camera back! Some great pics of the little guy there...lots of memories for sure!
  12. Sounded like a few good days of fishing. The carp is a big one for sure and they put up a good fight that's for sure! Great report...hope you post those other pics when you get them too!
  13. The beer was cold enough...maybe not certified cold...but cold enough
  14. Hey Jason! Excellent video!!! Looked like a great time with lots of great memories there. After hearing your last bear story from that fly-in lake, I don't blame her for getting on you about the bear...LOL!
  15. Well, another weekend at Bernie's has come and gone...and as HH said, things were a little different this time around, but as always, a great time was had! Joe showed up at my house and said "We'll take my vehicle...I'm pretty sure it'll probably mostly likely hopefully maybe make it there". Hmmmm...I said "well ok then!!". After a non eventful drive up, we made it to that little island of paradise!!! The first thing I noticed and was GREAT to see was the water levels....here's what it was last fall... What a difference this spring! After a quick unpack, it was hurry up and relax time....can never tire of this view! Joe and I jammed for hours on Friday night...anyone a drummer on the board here??? The opener was Saturday morning...and we woke to this amazing view... Ok...onto some of the fish.... Caught lots of these... Each caught some of these... And for some reason, the pike really loved Bernie this weekend!! LOL On our last evening out there, we were treated to this great sundog in the sky... On Monday morning as HH and I just pulled away from the boathouse to head home...the "probably mostly likely hopefully maybe make it" vehicle stalled as we turned a corner. He tried to restart it a few times, then looked at me. LOL. Luckily he got it started and we made it back to reality safely. The food was great as always...some key people were definitely missed...and hope to have a full crew again in the fall. Lots of laughs and great times are pretty standard on these weekends up at Bernie's. Thanks for everything guys! See you there again in the fall!
  16. Whoa! That thing is a tank!! Congrats!
  17. Nice going!!! A few nice fish there!
  18. Wow!!! What a monster!!! Loved the "its not a log" part!
  19. Will, I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. As you know, I went through a similiar thing very recently, so I know what you and your family are going through. I had the pleasure of fishing with you and your dad a few times, and I will always remember how welcoming and friendly he was. His smile was infectious and he could sure catch fish! But most of all, I could see the relationship the two of you had...and that is something that will carry you through these hard times. The memories are there forever now...and as hard as it is to remember them as happy times now, the day will come where that's all you will remember and feel. As Joe said, you have lots of friends here...please don't hesitate to give me a call at anytime ok? I will be in touch soon. Here is a photo I took from a few years ago...
  20. Russian newscaster Tatiana Subbotina tries her best to get through a story about a raid on a Canadian cannabis plantation that was guarded by bears, dogs, a pig, and a raccoon... <object width="450" height="370"><param name="movie" value="http://www.liveleak.com/e/6f7_1305235838"></param><param'>http://www.liveleak.com/e/6f7_1305235838"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.liveleak.com/e/6f7_1305235838" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="always" width="450" height="370"></embed></object> I quickly googled it and it seems it's true...a story that broke in 2010... http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/08/17/bc-marijuana-grow-op-bears.html http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2011/05/07/18117726.html

  22. I'd also assume accounts are not deleted for potential legal reasons. Keeping the member username and all related posts, things could be kept just in case there were any issues such as libel, harrassment or other types of action that puts OFC or its members in the middle of it all. Then again, I could be completely wrong...LOL.
  23. Happy Birthday Brian!
  24. Wow...I'm stunned as well... He will be missed for sure...I know I will miss his thought provoking posts... Condolences to his family and friends... OFC lost a great member...
  25. People are in such a rush these days. Did he really need to get there that quickly?
