Happy birthday!!! Great day of steelheading there! Congrats on both accounts. Awesome pics and info shared in your post. Thanks a million!
-
It's all been worked out via PM with CC and this kid....they are ok about it now.
-
LOL....where were these games 8 weeks ago when it was -20C out there? Could have made the winter go by more quickly!!!
-
Ok..I know that trout are big in the tribs in the spring and fall. Throw in the salmon run in the fall, and there's lots of exciting fishing going on! Ok...so...is there much to be had during the summer months in the tribs? Are the trout still there or do they head for deeper colder water in Lake Ontario? Thanks everyone!

Just get both!!! -
Wow...looked like an awesome time! Glad you got out and did some fishing. Thanks for posting the pics...it's nice to see species that are not found around here. Now...why didn't you bring that warm weather back with you?? LOL.
-
Great report! I'm sure once you get back into it and change up some of your gear, you'll be hauling them in! I'm going to try a bunch of east end tribs next weekend...going to be much milder and they should clear up pretty well by then. Good luck! Hey BTW...I grew up in Ajax...lived there from 1974 until 2002....I'm in Whitby now...I know...didn't move too far...haha.

Hmmm...you wanna know how many times I thought the same thing??? LOL. Thanks Mike..I'll bring one in again soon I hope!!!
-
Good point! Will keep it in mind the next time. No offense taken fishfinder...you have a good reputation for the art of steel on here....so I'll take advice from you any day!
-
Why does this NOT surprise me?? LOL (awesome report for you BTW). I'll get better at this steelhead thing...I have a good teacher....and I'm not one to give up on things.

If you want to be even more gross...take a look at the video of a hook extraction from someone's eye....makes me queasy just thinking about it!!! <BR><BR> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value=" name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Nice pics! I know what you mean about blown tribs...pretty much the same around here. Let's hope for lots of reports from you and I this time next week after they've had a chance to calm down a little! Good luck!

And that's why you are the master and I'm the student....LOL. Great job Scott!!! I'm so jealous!!!! At least I had one on the line....better than I expected frankly. So...are you going out tomorrow morning?? I'm free....LOL -
I took today off work to do some steelheading! I headed out to a local trib and got there before sunrise. I brought a flashlight to check out visibilities...cause if it sucked I was going to try somewhere else. Anyhow, a quick check showed about 6 inches of visibility!! Much better than when I checked it last evening...couldn't see even a few inches. Me being a relative newbie to Steelheading tribs, I thought that when the ice melted off, it simply broke free and headed downstream. Little did I know that with the +15C temps a few days ago the trib must have rose at least 4 feet and all it did was dump the ice on the banks. It was quite the awesome sight! (If anyone can recognize this trib from this pic, then you probably already know it intimately...so I think I'm safe in posting it) Anyhow, there was lots of slush coming down stream, so it was difficult getting a true drift going. I managed it for a while and was getting the hang of it. I moved around after drifting for about 15 minutes or so per area. My line, float, sinkers and rod were freezing up with a nice layer of ice every 5 minutes or so, so that was a pain in the butt. At one spot, another angler stopped to chat...asking if I had any luck yet. I said "nope...nothing". As soon as I said that, my float went under!!! I set the hook hoping it wasn't just a rock or wood, and I was greeted with the lovely sound of drag peeling off my reel. It took me a good 5 minutes to get the fish close to me. I was getting all excited...it was a big one (at least for me). This was over 30 or so inches and had bright red spawning colours. I tried to make sure it was all tired out before trying to get it out of the water. I was just reaching for the gill plate when it turned directions and my leader snapped!!! I was touching the fish when the leader went....and alas, it swam away. I looked down and noticed that my leader snapped about 3 inches above the hook...there was so much ice build up on everything that I think it may have been nicked. Oh well.... I fished a few more hours without a sniff...then the water started to muddy up again. I was home by 12...telling my story of the "one that got away"........

So, you're saying I shouldn't post GPS coordinates of all the spots I catch fish on the tribs? Why did I buy the darned thing? LOL.
-
Wayne....when I called the bus company, they were all sold out...that report of yours had thousands of PM whizzing around OFC lemme tell ya. I would have driven there, but I have no idea where Temagami is....LOL.
-
LOL...let's see...we had 15 degree weather for two days....the ice on the tribs has broken up...when the tribs swell, the fish run....hmmmm....geez...no one would think maybe to fish right? I'm a complete newbie to Steelheading, but I at least know that much...do you not think that ppl will be out anyways....whether CC posted his report or not?
-
Wow...nice first post. CC is a classy guy...dont see why you felt the need to post this. I am a Walleye guy who was looking to expand my fishing experience, and he helped me out...CC shares his experiences on here....shares tips and applauds other people who do well. We never ask where his secret spots are and he doesn't post them publicly. If that is not what ff.net was like, then I can see why he is here and not there.

That's what I love about this board too. People on here have helped me out a lot!!! The encouragement goes a long way too. This is truly a community I'm glad that I have found...it's made my experiences better. -
Great work Scott!! Just when you think there's no way anyone can get some steelies, you go out and show us how it's done!

Simply amazing report!! Another monster pike...I'm speechless!!!

Whoever posted the youtube link to that British program....thanks! Found it very interesting. Haven't watched all 8 parts yet, but I felt compelled to post a little something. I'm not saying who is right and wrong, but it sure makes you think. Part 3 talks about CO2 emissions...specifically the human factor. The program stated that Volcanoes emit more CO2 than all man made sources combined. They said that humans produce about 6.5 gigatons per year. This compares with animals and bacteria at around 150 gigatons. The single biggest source is the oceans. In percentage terms, humans are responsible for single digit CO2 emissions. The program does NOT say that CO2 level are NOT increasing, they are saying that to say humans are the main cause is incorrect. Part 4 goes into something that actually makes more sense to me. It compared the suns activity and global temps. Here's a screen shot.... This says that when solar activity is up (ie sunspot activity), so is the Earth's temp. The effects of heating the oceans affects CO2 production from it...the single biggest source of CO2 on the planet. Makes you think...and to me, it's more intuitive...when the sun is more active, we get warmer. They also talked about cosmic rays from the sun...apparently comsic rays are directly linked to cloud formation. When the concentrations of rays are high, more clouds form and vice versa. When there is lots of could cover, it reflects heat back out into space, causing a cooling effect on the earth. Here's a graph showing cosmic ray activity and temperatures..... It also talks about Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth and how the entire theroy is dependent on levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. Al says that it's complicated, but that the trend is there. This program points out a key flaw in the theory...one of those "complications" that were left out of the movie. Here's a quick graph comparing the sun activity and temps, as well as CO2 levels and temps....decide which one seems right.... Anyhow, I'm not saying who is right and wrong, just pointing out what this particular show was focussing on. Its interesting that most of the scientists are from the US and Canada too. If anyone knows about these solar factors and knows that they are incorrect, please post! We should see all sides of this issue.

Umm...he said "All the comforts of home"...I dunno what your bathroom is like, but mines a lot nicer than that...LOL

Here is a video I shot of a large thunderstorm from last summer. It was the one that spawned a bunch of tornadoes in southern ontario. A meterologist and tornado chaser commented on my video and said that at the 22 second mark, you could see a tornado starting....I'm not so sure, but decide for yourself.... <BR><BR> To see all the comments, double click on the video below.... <BR><BR> <object width="320" height="240"><param name="movie" value=" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HweRNWoJLg0"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HweRNWoJLg0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HweRNWoJLg0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="320" height="240"></embed></object> <BR><BR>
