Fishing with TB and Pikeie, PICS NOW ADDED
ccmtcanada replied to tinbanger's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the report! Cant wait to see the pics... -
Thanks for the heads up! We're taking the canoe out for a test drive on a bigger lake than we usually try, so this is great info! The last place I want to be is on a lake with a tourney!!
-
Wow...what a great offer and if I have anything that needs tuning up or fixing, I'll take a nice drive up your way. Oh yeah...does a 1990 Toyota Corolla count as a small engine??? I believe there are some lawnmowers out there with a more powerful one....LOL
-
WOW!!! Fantastic report!!!! Bly just said if there was any gift I could ever get her, it would be hiring Marc to hunt some muskies. Great commentary, great pics!! Thanks for taking the time to post it all.
-
Wow....sorry to hear about your camping experience!!! That would really piss me off too. Great pics from the air...what a great birthday present that was. At least you got into some fish...and you did catch a bigger smallie I believe. You'll get into some walleye and muskie before the season is done...they are bigger in the fall anyways!! haha. Thanks for the report and pictures....always a pleasure to read!

Tested a few new thing with the canoe tonight.

Ok...still lost...LOL. Some kind of veteran OFC inside joke??? -
I just cant seem to thank basskicker enough for the canoe...we are having such a good time with it. Hard to believe that 2 years ago, we pretty much sat on our butts and didn't spend any time outside! Since we got into fishing, we are quite the outdoorsy family now...LOL. Anyhow, Solopaddler was kind enough to give us a great trolling motor bracket that we were hoping would fit our canoe. A good friend of mine had a small 20lb thrust trolling motor and battery that he graciously loaned us. My 5 year old daughter also helped me mix up some cement that we put in a few large coffee cans to fashion a few home made anchors. Bly took our little one to get a kids paddle...she picked it out all by herself. So, with all these new toys, we decided to test it all on the water tonight. I got home from work at 530, and after a quick dinner, we strapped the canoe to the top of the car and headed off to Darlington Provincial Park. I attached the trolling motor bracket (it took a few times before I had it on correctly!!) and put the motor on and it was very solid! After putting on the outriggers, we launched at around 7pm. Everything worked out great! Here's a few pics of our time on the water. We didn't catch any fish, but we had a great time out there. The next step for us is to get our own trolling motor, battery and charger...then watch out fish!! Thanks to all who sent PMs or replied on my thread on canoe friendly waters...we're gonna hit a Kawartha lake this weekend to hopefully catch some fish!!! PS...Why does the profanity filter on this site change "m a r s h" to "whats his name"???? LOL....

Wow....some beautiful fish!! Glad the winds held off...they a howling out there now!
-
The fishing gear just happened to be in the boat....LOL. What a break!!! haha. Great report...you have a cute daughter there...and you're doing a great job planting the fishing bug with her!!

A couple of guys "fishing" behind their house, makes a video of how they are catching steelhead and salmon. Turns out their method of catching them is poaching!!! Here's a news video....<BR><BR> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="450" height="370" wmode="transparent" data="http://www.liveleak.com/player.swf?autostart=false&token=f1c_1187284489"><param'>http://www.liveleak.com/player.swf?autostart=false&token=f1c_1187284489"><param name="movie" value="http://www.liveleak.com/player.swf?autostart=false&token=f1c_1187284489"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><param name="quality" value="high"></object>

Sturgeon Lake - Any Update on Carp Die-off?
ccmtcanada replied to Golfisher's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't look like they have any idea, although I did fish one of the affected lakes (Chemong) last weekend and I didn't see a single dead carp anywhere. Two weeks ago I was at Scugog...same thing...didn't see any at all. Here's a news article from the Lindsay Post Still no answers on cause of carp die-off GALEN EAGLE / Osprey News Network Local News - Tuesday, August 14, 2007 @ 09:00 There is still no definitive answer about what caused the major carp die-off in area lakes, but whatever the cause, it seems to be waning, MNR area biologist Dan Taillon said Saturday. The die-off - which produced up to 24,000 dead carp on local shores - has not moved to any new lakes in more than two weeks. The last reports of dead carp came from lakes west of Peterborough such as Balsam and Mitchell lakes, Taillon said. The progress of the die-off has stalled, with no reports of dead carp in either Canal Lake to the west of Peterborough or Stony Lake to the east, Taillon said. Dead carp began turning up in Lake Scugog in early June and the problem quickly spread to Sturgeon, Cameron and Pigeon lakes, Pigeon River and Chemong, Buckhorn, Balsam, Sandy, Bald and Mitchell lakes, he said. There have been no new reports of dead carp on Lake Scugog since mid-June and only a few dead carp remain in Sturgeon Lake and the Tri-Lakes area, Taillon said. In Balsam and Mitchell Lakes, the situation is improving, but dead carp are still being found in higher numbers there, he said. Since the first dead carp was reported, 90 tonnes of carp carcasses have been disposed at local landfills, an estimated 13,000 to 24,000 carp in total, Taillon said. Taillon spoke with about 100 people who attended Saturday's Lakeland Conference in Buckhorn. He said 19 carp samples have been sent for testing to a provincial lab at the University of Guelph and a federal laboratory in Nanaimo, B.C. The MNR has no idea when results will come back from the federal lab, he said. "It's out of our hands. The labs will get in touch when the tests are completed," he said. "This isn't CSI, there's no fast track. That has been one of the biggest challenges, trying to communicate that to the public." During a July 31 press conference in Peterborough, Roselynn Stevenson, a molecular and cellular biologist with the University of Guelph, said she conclusively identified columnaris bacteria in the gills of carp samples taken from Sturgeon and Pigeon lakes. The same bacterial infection plagued the Ottawa River last year, killing between 2,000 and 4,000 catfish, Taillon said. Still, whether columnaris is a definitive cause of the die-off awaits the final test results from the federal lab, and even then, results might not be able to identify a primary cause, Taillon said. Despite the thousands of dead carp, there is no indication any other fish species has been impacted, he said. There have been a small number of other dead fish species found in area lakes, but Taillon said there is nothing to suggest they're tied to the carp die-off. As for the surviving carp, Taillon is optimistic they will be just fine. "The impact of the carp population is uncertain, but there are still healthy carp present," he said. "It's not a terrible thing for surviving fish. In theory, the surviving fish have less competition now." Source: http://www.thepost.ca/webapp/sitepages/con...ws&classif= -
Great report Mike! You and your family catch more fish in one long weekend then we do in a few months...LOL. Looks like a great time was had by all...your daughter looks to be a natural at the fish posing for pics. I've got a line on a trolling motor, so with a bit of luck, I'll test out that bracket you gave me this coming weekend!

Sorry to hear this news! I think everyone has lost someone close to them from this disease. 24 hours...wow...was it undiagnosed before then? My dad fought and suffered for 3 years before he lost his battle. Regards to the family...and to all that calls him friend.
-
Oh yeah...where does he fish out of? And how much for a day? See? OFC is already generating an inquiry...LOL.

Canoe Friendly Waters for Bass/Pike????
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Wow guys...lots of great info here! Thanks for taking the time to respond...we now have plenty of areas to try to keep us busy. Thanks to those who sent PMs as well! -
What???? No third leg jokes yet??? LOL

I agree with your point about the folks that frequent here, but half the traffic at this site are not members. Some may be long time lurkers, but I'd think a good number would be "drive by" traffic. Long time contributing members probably wouldn't hire a charter too often...I agree with that, but the active posters are in the FAR minority considering the number of members there are. I'll be honest with you...when I first came to this board, I was looking up the guides and charters on the ontario fishing network main page and then went to their websites to read up on them. Whatever he decides, I hope he's successful in his business!

The Official "This thing is probably busted thread"
ccmtcanada replied to canadianguy33's topic in General Discussion
We thought we were immune to a lot of water mishaps because we fish from shore. We were fishing with our familiy out on the shores of Lake Scugog. We had those folding camping chairs set up for comfort. I put the cell phone in the drink holder of one of the chairs. Well, the wind suddenly picked up and the chair, with my phone ended up in the water. It took us 1/2 hour to get the phone out of there and I assumed it was toast. I immediately took the battery out and started to dry it out. On the way home I put the battery and phone over the aid conditioning vents (cool dry air) and did the same when I got home. A few hours later, I plugged it in and it was fine...worked for another year....until it was dropped in Lake Ontario....LOL. This time it was toast...good news though...it was a work phone and I got a brand new one....haha. -
With shore fishing pretty much sucking where we are, Bly and I have been thinking of maybe targeting some Bass/Pike in some waters that are canoe fishing friendly. My outrigger has been built, I picked up the trolling motor canoe mount from solopaddler last week and a buddy of mine has a 30lb thrust trolling motor I can borrow, so I think we are all set up....with only one thing....we dont know where to go....LOL. The areas around Oshawa haven't really been producing, so we were thinking of heading a bit north to the Kawartha region...Scugog maybe....or any other lake in that general area. We dont need hot spots, just some hints on where to launch the canoe in protected areas/bays where we wont hit waters that are too rough. We'd also be willing to maybe try some areas in the Mississauga area....we really dont know of any spots in that area however. If anyone can help out with a location...and what is catchable in that area, that would be great. Thanks!!

Very cool report! Love the pics and educational video!!
-
Nice job out there...especially considering how tough fishing is this time of year. I'm thinking of hitting a trib or two as well to see what's swimming around. Great pics!
-
Pretty sure he meant $200 per person...I believe you said it was $2000 for 10 people?
-
I've never been on a charter, and I am by no means rich....going on one would be a luxury! To tell you the truth, I dont know if I would tip, considering the fees...LOL.
-
Sean...at least you've caught fish on that lake...even with the rental...LOL. Bly and I have rented there twice to fish...not a single fish caught...mind you, we have no idea what we are doing in a boat. Sorry to hear the rental thing didn't work out...at least we've never had issues with the boats we've had. That second day was classic! Congrats on the muskie....great job! Thanks for the detailed report...makes for some fun reading when I see you've posted something.
