  1. Update from Environment Canada..... City of Toronto 2:43 PM EST Thursday 6 March 2008 Winter storm watch for City of Toronto issued ..Another winter Wallop threatens spring forward weekend.. This is an alert to the potential development of dangerous winter weather conditions in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements. A winter storm is currently brewing over Texas with the potential to bring significant snow to most of southern Ontario. It appears that the snow will come in two doses. The first shot will begin as early as Friday afternoon for southwestern Ontario and Friday evening in eastern Ontario. We may have a brief reprieve overnight into Saturday morning where snow may become light and more intermittent. The heaviest snowfall is then expected in the second shot beginning later Saturday. Keep in mind that this storm is expected to last for 36 to 48 hours. Storm totals may be near 30 centimetres along and east of a line from Long Point to the Golden Horseshoe then to Petawawa. There is potential for 30 to 50 centimetres of snow over the Niagara Peninsula and parts of eastern Ontario. Areas west of the Long Point to Petawawa line should see between 10 to 20 centimetres with lesser amounts near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Behind this system we could see strong northerly winds to 60 km/h. On Saturday strong winds combined with fresh snow will cause blowing snow to lower visibilities and create dangerous driving conditions. Whiteout conditions are possible so travellers should be prepared to alter their plans accordingly. Total snowfall amounts will depend on the track of this system. There is still some uncertainty as to the exact track of this storm. Environment Canada will closely monitor this situation and issue warnings as required within the next 24 hours. Yep...I read that right.....30 to 50cm!!!!
  2. Hmm....this seems to be too much like work....LOL. Good luck to all that enter.
  3. Sounds like a blast! I landed one in a canoe, and I'm sure it's just as much fun in a kayak. That being said, I have never kayaked before, so I'd probably skip this kind of event...
  4. Where are you going Wayne?
  5. The ONLY good thing about all this snow this winter, is that hopefully water levels in the tribs and other shore fishing spots will improve to the point where fishing can actually happen in the spring! Then again, if you've read the article the Spiel posted about Lake Simcoe in the news section, this could add to an already potential disastrous situation. I've attached the latest weather statement, but there are no snowfall totals in there. Accuweather.com is saying the potential from London to Toronto (as well as Eastern Ontario and Southern Quebec) is 30+cm of snow. Here's a link to accuweathers blog.... http://www.accuweather.com/news-blogs.asp?...p;blog=anderson Anyhow...to view the latest updates, check this link....check both the weather statements and the public warnings. http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings/warnings_e.html WOCN11 CWTO 060947 Special weather statement Issued by Environment Canada Ontario region. 4:47 AM EST Thursday 6 March 2008. The storms keep on coming this winter with the next Major system Threatening to give heavy snow on Saturday.. Especially over eastern Ontario. A broad area of snow will develop on Friday over the regions ahead of another Texas low estimated to track up the eastern seaboard on Saturday. There is the potential that this storm will intensify into one of the biggest snow makers of the winter for eastern Ontario. Once the track of the low is determined winter storm watches or warnings may be issued. Listen for further statements. Additional information may also be found by consulting the latest public forecast. The next public forecast will be issued by 5 AM. END/MEREDITH
  6. Wow...I had no idea that Lake Erie freezes completely. That's pretty cool. Since Lake O doesn't freeze, I just assumed that none of the great lakes did. Pretty naive eh??? haha.
  7. Hey Kennyman....I use my float setup....13foot rod, with a spinning reel. Because of the visibility, I went with a shorter lead....about 2 feet. From the swivel to the float was about 2 feet as well, with weights to keep my leader down. I used roe (salmon...I haven't got any trout roe left), about looney size in chartreuse and pink bags.
  8. Not bad for a days work Glen! I was thinkin yesterday of parking the boat in the garage, unwrap her and start working on it for spring....then I heard we're getting another 20cm of snow Friday night into Saturday. When will the madness stop?????
  9. Are you sure? That's thing in your pic is at least 36 inches...no?
  10. Hey Grant...didn't know you wanted to try creek fishing. We should try...the spring thaw is coming, so lots of opportunities next month! We'll be in touch.
  11. Thanks Shawn!! We just do what we love to do...and that's get out there every chance we get.
  12. I already called my boss and told him I wasn't coming in because of the snow... Mind you, he may have assumed I stayed at home all day and worked, but that's his fault...not mine...LOL.
  13. Thanks Scott...after reading your report yesterday about waters being muddy, I checked the levels of the creek online and they were steadily going down despite the snow. I figured that if I could get out before the big melt, the waters may have cleared enough to catch some. Looks like for once I was right...LOL.
  14. Well, after waking up this morning and seeing the snow and traffic heading into Toronto, I decided to take a snow day. I took my little one public skating in the morning and then when she was off to school, I had nothing to do. I thought about heading to the local trib, but was unsure. Bly said I should at least go and look at the conditions, so I got all my gear together and headed down un-plowed streets to see what was swimming. When I got there, most of my favourite holes were frozen solid, but did notice a few runs that had some open water. The visibility was about 6 inches, so I had high hopes. The first hole I went to was pretty slow, but I did manage to get one on....and promptly lost it. It was then quiet for a few hours. I kept trying different holes, and by this time the sun was out and it was a great day to be drifting. I found another open spot and drifted as close as I could to the ice edge on the opposite bank. My float went down and I set the hook....and lo and behold there was a fish on! It was a little female....with some great colours. After snagging a few times and re-tying, I tried to drift the same spot again. This time my float went down and when it came to the surface it's tail actually broke thru the ice shelf! I knew this one was bigger! I was fishing high on a bank, so I had to lead the fish towards a spot where I could actually land the fish. The battle went on for about 15 minutes...it kept trying to head down stream, but I managed to keep it's head facing upstream. Finally, the this steelie came in. It was 27.5" and weighed 7 pounds! My first decent sized steelie this year. Here's the pic right after it was landed..... Someone who was walking by offered to take a pic, so here's the same fish.... All in all, had a pretty good day out there....3 hours and 3 fish on...two landed.
  15. Didn't want to start any controversy with OFNers Terry...are you feeling ok?? LOL.
  16. perodimi...now that was one COOL video!!
  17. SWEET!!! Great job landing that monster! Congrats on a great catch!
  18. LOL...congrats bill!!!
  19. Wow...we sure have something special here dont we? Really makes you think.
  20. I dont worry about other ppl's entries. I know mine are genuine, and that's all that matters. But you are right....I've never heard of a speck coming from the Wilmot...maybe it made a wrong turn at Albuquerque???
  21. Funny you picked those two as examples...that's me and the wife..LOL. I have no idea how they rank those on that page. I thought it was how fast they got their 5 species, but that wasn't it..then maybe total species, but that wasn't it either. Oh well, doesn't really matter. Congrats to all!
  22. I'm not worried about it Rick....all my fish measurements are accurate + or - 6 to 8 inches. LOL. I'm kidding of course. Because it's done on the honour system, there will always be inaccuracies. In short, it was an honour just to be nominated....
  23. My thoughts turn to him often, but after hearing about Jeff Healy and that dreadful 'C' word, I instantly thought of Chris again. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family and friends once again...come on Chris...you can do it....just believe.
  24. Hey Scott! It's great seeing some reports. I know for a fact that if I went out today...even standing right beside you, I wouldn't have landed any...LOL. Great job...you still have the touch, even in muddy waters. Hey, I'm home tomorrow, maybe we should do some extreme steelhead fishing again...
  25. LOL Glen...I had a busy day at work and just walked in the door.... In true fashion though...here's the latest Environment Canada warning....looks like I'm just going to stay home tomorrow...
