Let me talk to Bly...see what's going on...if there's panfish, my little one will love it!
-
I don't think MJL's comment about wading insinuated that he was fishing....just saying that you can never be too careful on creeks....even if the water seems shallow and slow moving. My comment was in the same light...

Ahhh...the hammer technique!! I love that method. Hammers and duct tape...their power is underestimated!

Man...what an awesome report and pics! The Lake O I was on Saturday afternoon wasn't smooth as glass like in those first pics!!! Looking forward to your next report!
-
Wow...now that's scary. Bly and I have said that this was going to happen sooner or later in that area. That's why we NEVER fish alone at night...you just never know...one slip, hit your head and it's lights out forever....even in slow moving shallow flows.

Wow...nice pics Kerry! Water levels will be interesting this year....last year being low, this year record highs...hard to say what July will be like.

Brought Home my New fishing Toy Today
ccmtcanada replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
Mike...now that is a SWEEEET ride for sure! I thought your boat I was in at Quinte was great, but man...makes my little tinny seem like a toy for the bathtub...LOL. Enjoy it bud! -
Heya Bill! All the best on your birthday!
-
I picked steelhead, but it really depends on the time of year. Going after steelhead in the tribs in July just wont happen. For fall, winter (when possible) and early spring, it's steelies. I love going after walleye and muskie in the fall, pike and carp in the spring, and bass in the hot days of summer when other fish are harder to catch.

Thanks all! Would have been perfect if the winds didn't kick up so much. We had a great time out there and cant wait for the Kawartha opener!
-
Thanks everyone....it was great to fight these guys again...they were a bit lethargic, but they'll liven up once the waters warm a little more!

Well, it was such a great summer-like day, Bly and I just couldn't stay at home tonight. We decided to head to a local spot to see if the carp had moved in yet. The tribs are pretty much done until the opener, and nothing else is really open season right now. Anyhow, we got to our spot at around 830 and began the waiting game...and wait we did.... Nothing...not a sniff of our bait for a whole hour. Finally, at 930 they started to bite! Our first carp of the season was caught using some ground mix on a feeder and a fruity boilie. This was 31 inches long and was about 15 pounds. Bly was next up...about a half hour later, she finally gets a fish on...after a nice tussle, she landed this 32.25" one...again...another 15 pounder... About 20 minutes later...after feeling lots of action on her line, she landed another one!! We know how much Wayne loves our carp reports, so we dedicated our first one of the season to him.... That's all for now....good night!!

Very nice report! Great panfish and a bonus trout too! It's good to see reports from you again...is Dave going to be keeping you busy soon?

Now that's a good day of fishing! I'd love to get into some cats that size. Great job guys.

SWEEEEEEEEEEET! Looking awesome Gerritt....a professional looking job if you ask me.

Now that I have a boat....this is the first spring season for it. It's an older (1983) Mercury 18hp...it runs well most of the time. I find that after the first or second pull (cold start), the motor starts up, then stalls after about 5 seconds. I cant throttle up, because with this motor, you have to put it in gear to do so. It then will take about 20 pulls to get it started again. The motor wont turn over at all, and then suddenly I'll pull and it starts right up. Anyhow...I need someone to take a look at it as I am mechanically inept!!!

After Headhunter's thread about weekend plans, I thought I'd share what we did for a good chunk of the day. The wind forecast was a little iffy, but we wanted to get out and maybe drop a line or two to see if anything was swimming around. It was a toss up between Lake Simcoe...or Lake Ontario. Fish everywhere else is pretty much closed for now. Anyhow, we decided on Lake O, since the launch is only about 10 minutes away from the house. I'd hate to drive over an hour to Simcoe, only to turn back around if the conditions were too bad. They were only forecasting winds of about 15 to 20km/h locally with waves described as negligible, so I was hoping it would be fine. This was also my young daughter's first time in the boat, and we didn't know how long she'd actually last....and again, since we were only 10 minutes from home, it seemed like the right choice. We got to the launch at the crack of 11am. An uneventful launch had us out there in just a few minutes time. As we got further down the marina and into the channel, the winds hit us straight on! I was hoping to leave the channel to test the motor at full throttle, but as we got closer to the big lake, whitecaps were everywhere, 3 to 4 footers....one almost came over the front end...and the little one got a bit scared, so we turned around and decided to drift fish in the protected channel and marina. The winds picked up to over 40km/h, so it was more like turbo drifting...LOL. We set our six year old up with a worm and a float. Here she is....reaching for a snack...never taking her eyes off the float...makes a dad proud....hehe. Suddenly, while drifting one of Bernie's jigs, I feel a hit! I get ready for a big fight...and it's game on! My six year old laughed and laughed and laughed.... A little while later, I decided to throw a cleo...as we did see some trout patrolling the grounds the evening before...hoping for a dropback.... As it turns out...I feel a big hit...and this time I was fighting a fish. It was a nice sized pike....but since it's out of season, it went back in the water pronto! I stopped throwing spoons at that point...not wanting to accidentally get another one, since it was obvious they were in the area. It became apparent that we were not going to find many fish where we were, so the girls decided to get comfortable.... We ended up staying on the water until around 3:30....the little one not getting bored at all. This bodes well for many trips to the Kawarthas once the season opens! Anyhow, had a great time out there...could have done without the wind and waves, but what can ya do? We just made the best out of it.

So this is what I missed Mike? ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Ok...I feel better now. Some great looking fish!!! Hopefully we can get out there together for one last kick at the can. Awesome pics...great scenery...could have done without the snake though....LOL.
-
So either you meant you are targeting catfish, or you're going to drink lots of alcohol....could be both I suppose.....
-
Great report Joey! If I remember correctly, last year was pretty cold as well! Sorry to hear about the sunstroke, but I'm sure it was all worth it. Always great to see your reports...thanks for taking the time to post them for us to read!
-
I never throw fish...I gently place them back in the water..... Ok...not entirely true...I'll put a minnow on a hook and cast the thing out there.
-
Great report!! Awesome pics!! Some really nice looking cats there...and glad to see the sucker came in handy too...LOL.

Hey Rick....welcome back! I didn't have nearly the issues you had, but I had to re-new my mortgage this past summer. I've dealt with Royal Bank for all my banking and investing for over 20 years now....but my mortgage was with Scotiabank...so I was hoping to renew my mortgage with Royal, and I let them know my intentions....if the deal was right. I figured they'd treat me like gold trying to get the mortgage and I couldn't have been more wrong!! They had me running through hoops to sign stuff for appraising my house, saying it would cost me a few hundred bucks to do this, the meeting I had with them was short and sweet, even though I told them ahead of time that I wanted to look at everything with them....bank accounts, investing, mortgage...the whole works. I was rushed out of their building, with most of my questions unanswered, with a bunch of papers to sign. I then went to Scotiabank and made a 1/2 hour appointment. I ended up talking to them for over an hour and a half....the lady I was talking to stayed an hour past the closing of the bank. She went over our entire financial plan, checked the appraisal value online (no forms to sign and no fee to have it done). At the end of the day, I gave them my business for not only the mortgage, but all my day to day banking and savings, as well as my investments. I got a call a few weeks later from the Royal Bank branch manager asking why I closed everything (there was a lot of money in my portfolio) and I was brutally honest. He said the person I talked would be fired...I said what is done is done....see you later. Good to see you are back...and glad to hear you'll be out fishing a LOT more! Looking forward to seeing you again up at Lakair in June....until then....take care and enjoy!

Wow....hope all goes well for you!! The power of the water is incredible....and it's something I've never had to worry about, but after seeing how it can impact friends here on OFC, it really makes you think!! We'll be thinking of you guys!

Kill the bee? They are not a put and take insect...jeez...if you want to catch bees in the years to come you'd just catch and release it....be sure not to wipe the protective pollen coating off them either. Oh wait...I think I'm a bit confused here....
