I was going to use my ice fishing rod, but that would have been over the top I think. Plus...that Barbie rod catches lots of fish!!

Planning a Alberta/BC RV trip with kids.

When I was about 10 years old, my family flew out to BC, where my dad bought a company car and we drove it home to Toronto. While in Vancouver, we visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge, the Vancouver Sea Aquarium, Grouse Mountain....and Whistler. Having a snowball fight in July was pretty cool. Our travels then took us to the Okanagan Valley (Kelowna), where they had some friends. Visited the Flintstone's Theme Park (no longer there), and learned about the Ogopogo...Canada's Loch Ness Monster. After that we drove to Jasper and rented a chalet for a few days....it was pretty cool there. From there we visited the Columbia Icefields on the way to Banff. That was awesome! Got to go out on snowmobile buses right on the glaciers there. Once in Banff, we went to the Sulpher Hot Springs and Lake Louise. It was a blur from there....we drove straight from Banff to Thunder Bay in one day. Left Thunder Bay and saw the Big Nickel Mine Tours in Sudbury before heading home. All in all, it was an AMAZING trip. I was only 10...my younger brother was 8 and my older brother was 14 at the the time. We were never bored, it was an awesome time. -
What a great opening introduction and report! You'll fit right in here. Welcome to OFC....pull up a chair and prepare to get addicted....LOL. Looking forward to more reports in the near future.

Heard more details this morning on 680 news. Apparently, court documents say that he admitted to using cocaine....and that he rollled up a Canadian bill to snort it. They also did find some on him. I doubt he'll get the 15 yrs maximum that the charges hold, but it'll seriously put a dent into any US tour if the conviction goes through.

Great report again Limey! I'm heading out on a little back lake fishing adventure next week...cant wait! I suppose if you had a few truck ramps with you, you may have been able to get over that little trench in the road. Looking forward to more of your adventures!

Hey Glen....make it a minimalist trip for you. Some chest waders and a float tube is all you need! Don't forget the swim fins. No need to trailer and good on gas.

Wow...comgrats!!!! Just looked up Dease Lake...seems it's a 30km long lake...probably lots of fish in there!!! Here's some quick info on the fish in the lake.... "Fishing in Dease Lake Dease Lake also sits at the south end of Dease Lake a very good fishing lake in the area. The lake itself is about 30 km (19 miles) long and narrow, less than a km (mile) across in many places. The lake eventually flows into the Arctic so the variety of fish include Lake trout, white fish, northern pike, some arctic grayling and burbot." source http://www.ourbc.com/travel_bc/bc_cities/s.../dease_lake.htm Good luck...and keep us updated once you are settled!

Mike...I don't have a phobia about them...as seen here.... And in Bly's defense, I took that pic while she was unhooking that fish...she didn't even know I was taking it until the last second.

Welcome back Dave! Things are likely the same as before you left...except with more members. Great re-introduction....hope to see some reports soon!

Mud would make you invisible for when the military is using heat sensing equipment to find you...at least it worked for Arnold....or was that Stallone?? Cant remember now. Although...I don't recall him getting mosquito bites in the bush, so it must work.

A fellow board member, Jen, posted something last year that has stuck in my mind ever since I first read it. Here's an excerpt of a report from the past from her.... "The sounds I never heard ( birds everywhere - ducks, geese, black birds, crows...the hum of wings as they fly overhead. Fish breaking the surface of still water or waves crashing against shore) The sunrises and sunsets I have never noticed ( dew rising off of the grass in the early morning hours or coating it as dark quickly approaches) The smell of the trees, forests, lakes... not to mention the smell of a goose still warm after you have dropped it from the sky. ( I had never even considered that a bird would smell like something) No wonder one yearns to fish or hunt. It isn't about the catch or the kill, it isn't about putting food on the table or in the freezer, it isn't about the competition...what I have discovered atleast for me is- it is about finding peace in yourself, understanding the world around you, and appreciating what is in your own backyard. It takes a great deal of effort to slow down in life long enough to actually see the beauty that is all around us. Pictures can not describe adequately what one has felt and learned from an experience however they allow you to share a little of what was. (some may find them too graphic and may not want to continue reading this post) I wish I could find the words to explain what I feel inside. The closest I can come to the perfect words would be AMAZEMENT, AWE and RESPECT for what I didn't used to see and now am trying to understand." This came from her and her discovery of the outdoors. I haven't seen a report from her in a while now...hope all is well with her and that she drops by to say hi again from time to time.

Last night we headed out to a local shore spot to see if we could hook into a few fish. The carp still seem to be spawning, so instead of trying for them, we decided to see if more smallies were in the area. I caught a fair sized one there last week, so we rigged using the same setup. Live leeches on a jig, floating at a depth of about 6 to 7 feet. The waters were pretty stained with only about 12 inches of visibility. I caught a few rock bass, but nothing big. Soon after we got there, Bly's float goes down!! She tells me "I've hooked into something...a sheepie? Maybe a bass!" The thing fought pretty hard, not wanting to come to the surface. Finally, her PB comes up....measured in at 19.75". We didn't have a scale so no weight estimate. Any weight guesstimates out there???

Great stuff guys! Lots of fish and good times....gotta love it when a plan comes together!!

I'm seeing all these "spent time at the cottage...fished all the time" posts and I'm getting jealous....LOL. Sounded like a GREAT week...nice bass and eye pics!

Sounded like a pretty good weekend to me! Got some work done at the cottage and then got her done on the water the next day. Some REAL nice muskies there. Congrats.

Great to see your "reverse psychology" working....LOL. You had the right approach, you sneaky guy...haha. At the end of it all, you had a great time out there with the ones you love....doesn't get much better than that!
-
Ok...so you caught fish every time and it's a bad day?? Jeez...how soon you forget those shore days where one fish is a good day....LOL. You've had a banner year so far Sean....sometimes things get slow, but hey, you got out there and caught a few. Congrats on the PB walleye....always nice to catch a surprise fish!
