always a great day when kids are catchin fish
ccmtcanada replied to workwear's topic in General Discussion
You're welcome Workwear! Great pics...he looks like one happy guy! -
I only use them when fishing tribs for trout. I don't have breathable neoprenes...just the cheap PVC ones with insulated boot from Canadian Tire. I found that what you wear under them is very important. Your first layer should always be something that will wick sweat away from your body, or you'll feel wet from the condensation that forms on the inside.

Semi new angler, need help getting started again.

If Pike are on your agenda and you are using mono line then, wire leaders are a must to add to your list. You are doing well on your list...the only thing I'd change up is the line....I'd go at least 20 to 30lb power pro. Casting 10 or 12 lb mono line will be tough...especially for lighter lures. Get basspro to spool your reel for you if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. Also to keep in mind. Simple float, hook and worm (and splitshot) shouldn't be overlooked....it'll catch you all kinds of fish. -
Master Baiter Championships

So if you are boatless, can I assume you are fishing from shore? If so, then early morning and late evening/night will probably be the best times to fish. Bass, Walleye and Muskie are in this lake, but the big boys likely wont be near shore during high sun. I have a few friends who have trailers on parks on Chemong....the fishing is pretty good overall there. It's likely not the best Kawartha Lake, but, it holds it's own. I'm fishing there this weekend...will post a report on Sunday.

Hmmm... Nicay muskay Raf. Je impresser. Ok..it's not French, but it'll have to do...LOL.

Sounds like a great day to me! I've never fished that area, but good luck out there. Take a few pics next time and post 'em!!

Not a long weekend...

Cool...fishing and a fencing tournament!! So, how does that work exactly? Does each competitor stand in their own boat? Or does one board the other. Does the winner take the other persons boat and fish? Details....we want details.
-
I just had an idea. Put a hot dog cart on my boat and sell them to boaters/anglers out on the Kawarthas.... How much would you pay for a nice fresh hot dog out on the water? I'd probably part with $5....LOL.
-
Wow...cant wait for them to get closer to shore so I get a stab at them too! Those are some NICE sized fish there! How many FOW did you catch those in?
-
Great report and good to see members hooking up and getting out there! Some nice lunkers caught there....good job!

LAKE NIPISSING REPORT (pics and short videos)
ccmtcanada replied to lunkerbasshunter's topic in General Discussion
Another great report! For some reason I couldn't see the videos...just took me to the photobucket login screen. Fishing may have been tough, but you got into some nice bass! Maybe those juvenile ducks were picked up at a party that got out of hand..... And...that is one scary looking leech...don't know if I'd even want to touch it to put on a hook....LOL. -
It was tough fishing and rough waters, but I'm willing to bet you had a better time than I did sitting at the office!!! LOL.

Gotta love fishing with the kids...esp when they are doing the catching. My 6 year old says "What if I catch the biggest fish and you dont get anything?". I say "I really hope that happens"...and I mean it!! LOL. Here's a thread about posting pics....scroll donw the page and you'll see some pictures on how to post them in here. http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.p...c=20729&hl= -
LOL...great report Glen! I was wondering when we'd see another report...it's been a while. So...someone was in your secret spot....ya think the internet gone and done it?? hehe. Nice carp too...they are fun to fight aren't they? I'll update the tourny standings on Monday...it's gonna be a close race to the finish this year!

Wow...looks fantastic! I cant make it, but thanks for the opportunity.

Loosing my favorite Fishing hole to Ants!
ccmtcanada replied to Anton Kanagasuntheri's topic in General Discussion
Oh yeah...forgot to add, that this is typically something you have to do repeatedly...one or two applications is rarely enough, since there could be multiple colonies in the area. -
Loosing my favorite Fishing hole to Ants!
ccmtcanada replied to Anton Kanagasuntheri's topic in General Discussion
Hmmm....raid wouldn't work for long anyways. You need an insecticide that doesn't kill them right away....the workers take the poison back to the queen, where it will eventually die. Go to CTC or Home Depot...check out their insecticide sections...most ones specifically for ants will have this slow acting insecticide. Good luck! -
SWEET report Will! Looked like a bug-filled amazing time up there. Congrats on the PB Pike too! One of these days Bly and I will do a fly in somewhere...maybe for our 10th anniversary.... Thanks for putting the report together!

Wireless carriers to add text charges
ccmtcanada replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
When I had rogers as my cell phone carrier, THEY would send me SPAM text messages. I'd check my phone and what do I see? "Check out rogers.com for the latest offers on internet phone". If they are still doing that then that's likely why they have no plans at this time. To put the onus on the consumer to call to dispute spam is ridiculous. They costs just to run a cost center would be huge for that. -

First off, welcome to the board! I was in your shoes two years ago. I fished as a kid, and then stopped when my dad's friend sold his cottage as that's where I fished. Fast forward about 25 years and I picked up a rod again. I started with a 6' 6" cheap medium combo from Canadian Tire and it caught me lots of fish. That rod is now retired and hanging on the wall in my basement. There is no need to break the bank...especially if you are not sure what you are looking for. I started cheap....got to know the feel and action at least one rod so I'd know how to compare when looking at mid range or expensive rods. Without doing that, I could have spent a bunch of money on an expensive rod that maybe I hated. Anyhow, for bass and pike, I use a medium setup...spinning reel spooled with 30 pound power pro. Use a leader for pike. There are lots of opportunities within the GTA to fish, and when I started out I found the information on this site a great starting point.... http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsF...L02_165427.html If you wanted to head to inland lakes, the Kawarthas are a great place, however shore spots are hard to find because of the number of cottages that seem to line the shores. I haven't found a good shore spot up there that would get me into bass....and there is no pike....but you could catch a musky at night. Many people will float fish with minnows for Walleye at night as well. Good luck...and keep asking your questions....you've come to the right place! -
I know what you mean about the curse. Whenever I fish with someone in our usual shore spots, we get skunked....just ask Tbayboy....LOL. Despite the pike not cooperating, the motor issues and the rain, it still adds up to a great day of fishing!

Sinker's idea is one that I'll likely do as well. Fishindevil also gave me that tip when I got my boat. If you think you'll change your fishfinder a few times over the years, maybe add a speed wheel, then he told me this is great. You dont have to keep drilling holes into your transom...just screw it into that plate.
