The boat is pretty much a weekend thing, so during the week, we still try to get out as much as we can to hit some shore spots in our area. The carp seem to be in full spawn, so we decided to see what else was swimming around....here's a few pics of what we've managed.... Bly's Sheepie...caught using a small inline spinnerbait. Here's a rogue bass I caught....using live leeches and floating at a depth of about 6 feet. One night we used simple worm/hook/float and managed a few fair sized bullhead. Sometimes, just getting back to basics can yield some results!

Skeeter invited us up to his trailer up on Chemong Lake on Saturday, so Bly and I (and our little one), packed up the car and after a quick stop at Tim Horton's, we were on the road and arrived at 11am. We were greeted by Skeeter outside the park and went up to meet his wife and son. My little one found out that they had 2 cats....one of those being a very young kitten! That was it for her....she was inside playing with that kitten and we didn't hear from her until it was time for lunch. Here's a pic of the two of them later that night. Tracker (Don) showed up a little while later and we all sat on the porch, exchanging life and fishing stories! The time just slipped by, and after a bbq lunch, taking the little one to the swimming pools and more talking it was already 5pm!! Originally, Bly was going to stay back and fish the docks with our daughter, and maybe practise casting with a new baitcaster setup that Fishnsled gave her. Skeeter's wife chimed in and told her that if she was comfortable with it, that she could take her to the docks and occupy her time if Bly wanted to head out with us. You can tell when she is having a great time, because she barely looked up from the kitten and she said "Ok...see you later". We got out on the water at around 530. The weather had looked threatening from time to time, but the storms never arrived! We got down to the docks and I said "So, who's fishing with who?". It took Skeeter one second to yell out "Bly's with me and we're going to kick your @#$!". Well ok then!! It didn't take long for the fish catching to start. We looked over at Skeeter to him land a nice sized walleye. I had the camera...so no pics. We began to drift...the conditions at the beginning were perfect...choppy water, overcast skies...we were hoping to have some nice Walleye fillets!! A little while later, I hooked into this nice sized eater! Into the livewell it goes. We drifted for the rest of the evening...periodically adjusting and while we didn't see any more walleye, we got into some fish. The winds picked up as the evening wore on...so the drifting was faster and faster...I think that affected our walleye hook-ups. Tracker with a HUGE bass... Me with a scrappy one.... My crappie... Tracker's nice sized one!! We kept calling over to Skeeter's boat asking how they were doing. By the time the sun was setting, they said they had 7 and released some smaller ones. WOW!!! We had one that we kept...but jeez...what were they using? When we asked, Skeeter said "I'll tell you back at the docks...." We finally got back to the docks at around 930, we rush over to see all these walleye they boated. The stringer comes out of the water and we do indeed see 7 fish. ONE walleye, ONE bass and 5 Crappie....LOL. They intentionally let us believe they were slamming the walleye. Skeeter's justification was "We didn't say WHAT we'd kick your @#$! at" LOL. Tracker and I threw back just as many crappie and bass that they had on their stringer. Anyhow...a great laugh, but the mosquitoes were literally swarming us, so off to the trailer. Here are a few pics of the end of the night. We had a GREAT time....thank you so much Skeeter and family. Your hospitality was amazing....and since you invited us back up again, we'll be in touch!! Always a pleasure seeing you Tracker...it's never a dull moment when OFNers can get together like that.

This is our first season with a boat. I'd have to say that Sturgeon Lake is my fav lake that's close to home. Scugog comes in second...only because it's even closer to home. I loved fishing the West Arm of Lake Nipissing...learning that lake after a few trips up there.

I'm very sorry to hear this news...our thoughts are with you...and his family and friends. My brother is going through the same thing with his wife. She's only 39.....and has complained about stomach pains for the past 3 years. She kept going to the Dr to complain and they told her there was nothing wrong. I got a call this past week from my brother saying that she went again....they finally ordered tests and it's confirmed she has stomach cancer....not sure if it's spread at this point. She's due for surgery in a few weeks...which is never a good sign that they get you in that fast. We still are not sure of prognosis, but it's another example where if they took her seriously the first few times she may not be in the same urgent situation she's in now. Take care Pikehunter. Yeah...if you can afford it, go for it! Korg has a cheaper version that is really good for the money and is only half the price. I've used the Korg before and would get that if I had to make the decision again.

WOW!! Great job!! More inches for the team Congrats on a PB....that's a nice chunky pike you got there....I'd say it's around 12 pounds. -
I have to agree with Raf. If he's not into it there is no use forcing him. My brothers were athletic and played soccer, baseball and hockey...and even golf. All sports my dad was into. He even coached their teams. I played a few years of hockey and tried golf, but I wasn't really into it. He tried to get me excited about it...and I really wanted be excited...I wanted nothing more than to have my dad proud of me, but the passion just wasn't there. Is he into other sports or in a competitive environment? If not, then it could be a self confidence issue. If he sees you being serious about it, then he may back down because he doesn't want to disappoint you. Then again, he could just not like it...plain and simple.

Come on!!! Jeez...ONE time I spill a few hooks and pieces of split shot and you don't let me forget it.... LOL

Lunch Snacks Lots of water. Rain gear - just in case. Fishing License I'd just use my partner's tackle...esp if it's his mystery lake. I'd try to go light.... - Tray of jigs and fav plastics - Tray of spoons and inline spinners - Box of larger spinner baits. - Tray of cranks that dive from 3 to 10 feet. - Tray of terminal tackle.

Hmmm....will have to think that one over....LOL. Maybe I'll have to do another song...to the tune of AC/DCs "Big Balls" and work it in that way.

Economical Price conscious Value Savvy Budget minded Maximizing investment Nah...maybe you are just cheap... I do the same with pinkies for trout and panfish....

When I was 13, my tackle box had a few red and white bobbers, about 3 hooks and a few pieces of lead shot. And it stayed that way until I was 36....LOL.

I dont want to see anyones balls that have been manhandled that many times by different people. Actually...I don't wanna see anyones else's balls.....

I have a canoe and have fished from it. I made a home made stabilizing arm and I'm not 100% comfortable fishing in it. It's also not easy to put on top of your car after a long day of fishing if you are alone. If space is an issue (if you are in an apartment and have no room for a canoe), then get what is best suited for you. I've looked at inflatables and would love one to use in local areas where boat launches are not readily available.

I hear you John, and if I used them in warm weather, I'd get new ones. I only use them to fish for steelhead from October until March....waters are quite cold. I don't feel constricted when wearing mine and I'm actually quite comfortable in them, even when fishing all day long. Perhaps I'm lucky...LOL.

Vacation Carping - July 7-10 - Pic intensive
ccmtcanada replied to MJL's topic in General Discussion
More great carp adventures! Spawning is abound in our area too, so not much to show for the last few outings. Great report and pcis as usual MJL...it's real dedication on your part to lug all that gear around on public transportation to get to your fishing holes. Well done! -
Semi new angler, need help getting started again.

Braided line is much thinner than mono for the same line strength. For example, 30 pound power pro is about the same diamter as 8 pound mono. I like braided lines for a few reasons... 1) No stretch (mono has quite a bit of stretch), enables you to detect hit more easily 2) If you fish in weedy areas, you dont have to worry as much about line break..the line will just rip thru those weeds. 3) Smoother casting. Braided line wont "coil" up on you because it has no "memory" when it's on the spool. Others prefer mono line, for their own reasons, but for me, for casting and retrieving, braid is what I prefer. For jigging I actually like mono line...it's less visible in the water and I don't have to cast with it. Good luck! Hope to see a fish filled report soon! -
