  1. 8 summers on my deep cycles in the bow of my Lund... they're about done, but from neglect. 8 summers on the AGM's for the Verado and kicker motor and they still load test as new. Battery in our steel boat w / 25 Honda.. 9 years / 10th summer and it load test as new. Moral to the story... use your boat! As for leaving chargers plugged in overnight or 24/7... like Stonefish... not a chance! As matter of fact I forgot that I plugged my cordless 18v battery in yesterday morning and opened the shop to lithium ion gas today and a liquid pool of battery goo, deformed charger and melted battery pack. Thank god I set it on my steel jig table, although I found it all on the floor. Got so hot and bubbling I guess it hopped itself right off the table!
  2. Like Jen says... it's pumpkin carving shootin time!! Enjoy everyone !
  3. I don't know Adam.. I've watched you guys play and I bet you' d have no trouble on a fly in with some of us old buggers! Can't help with the shore spots..
  4. Thanks Rob! She was in Penetang painting pumpkins to be exact! Should be on again at 11 or in your link for ever...
  5. Princess Auto for about 5 bucks! and if the thread is not right for your motor..... one of those multi cut caps for a tube of silicon fits one of the adapters in the pump kit and will fit any size hole in your lower unit, just cut to suit! You can also use the plastic applicator from a hemorrhoid cream tube.
  6. I use a 20 lbr on the ice all winter! ..and if you don't like filling 1 lbrs Bri... you could fill 5's the same way ! lol
  7. You have 5 years like I've had and you might skip grey and go direct to white as well........
  8. I'm sure we can do better than 49 for 58 next time.....
  9. Look at it anyway you want and do what ever works for you to let you sleep at night. There is no need for the winch strap, safety chain or rear straps to break for the boat to move forward, if it hasn't been brought right tight to the winch post. Rear straps keep the boat from bouncing or going sideways off the trailer. They won't keep it from moving forward in a panic stop (the geometry won't allow it!) if the boat wasn't right tight to the post, which can be hard to do with a heavy boat on bunks if the water happened to be shallow at the launch.
  10. If you're going to use them... make sure that your boat is absolutely tight to the winch post. If not when you slam on the brakes in a panic stop and the boat slides forward, that is when the transom is going to get damaged (or the engine's hydraulics or attachments). Myself, I will not use them on my 275 Verado on the advice of a well versed marine mechanic. That's what the trailering latch was designed for. Transom savers change the load path and will accelerate the wear of the engines pivot points. My 9.9 gets trailered in the down position and I throw a ratchet strap around it to the trailer so it doesn't bounce.
  11. 500 to 400 makes a lot of sense Newf... as 15 % ethanol in gasoline brings it's BTU's (energy content) down to about 80% of straight gas. Less BTU's per litre and you need to use more fuel to go the same speed.
  12. SO.. you beg her for a drive to 400 and IBR yet, or am I picking you up at home! LOL
  13. Both engines upper and lower oils changed and livewells / powerwasher winterized. Ready to chase 'skis for a couple months!

I am out most of next week, near North Bay chasing Ski's, then will winterize- crankcase and gear case, but have a few more trips planed afterwards- I usually fish into mid-November but find it too cold to change fluids then....

Yep... check for water in lower units, new clean oil to throw around the bearings for winter storage and livewell intakes capped. Makes for worry free late season fishing!

  14. Thanks for putting that myth to bed Cram! Water test continues as the method it is....
  15. Grabbed a 3 year old Eveready starting battery out of the garbage shack at the marina, as I was sending Leah home on Thursday with the boat. Battery looked like new. I just charged it and it load tests at 1050 CA !! Score!

I'm thinking someone said "on your way to town take that battery off the dock to the garbage" .. and they grabbed the wrong one! Oh well !

  16. Some don't get to go fishing as often as others Raf, don't make them pout !
  17. My Shell has dedicated pumps.
  18. As Bernie recommended! I've had slightly milky oil in our 25 Honda for a few years come fall... and have always forgot to get new plastic washers and then it's too late when we have to leave camp suddenly as I drain and refill the day we're closing up camp and storing the boat. Last year I remembered to buy some new washers and put them in place. Draining last week the oil was as new, and the boat was in the water for just over 4 months. I was ready for a prop shaft seal job and 1.78 saved the day!
  19. Maybe the gauge is broken..... Nice wheels... I should have come home earlier to catch the Sept 30 deal enders on most brands... Leah needs a truck it appears.
  20. Figured no point discrediting Rick's finding on the internet of using food colouring, without just testing it myself. Easy enough to do, but I did have to get out of my arm chair. I'd just bought 2 cans of cheap CTC regular this morning and had some Shell V power premium in the hangar already. Took 2 clear mason jars 1/2 full of each fuel and just added a few drops of food colouring... and both did the same. The colouring went through the fuel and beaded at the bottom. Not what I expected, I had faith in the regular turning blue. SO.. I grabbed another jar, put some water in it... marked my line and then added the regular fuel. And low and behold, our CTC regular has no ethanol in it!!!! So if someone has a known source for thinned out gasoline, do us all a favour and try the food colouring in it and see what happens. Real science will put this to rest... BTW... food colouring drops right through the 100% gas and then turns the water to blue! Imagine it will turn ethanol laden fuel blue as well, but that remains speculation at this point!
  21. Save the running around and just order some good stuff from Aircraft Spruce. Probably cheaper than marine supply houses anyhow... http://www.aircraftspruce.ca/catalog/elpages/unshieldlwire.php?clickkey=3524
  22. Not a WGSF killer !! Thanks for the long awaited smiles none the less !
  23. Well Raf when you get it all figured please come out and do mine!! We went to load the Lund on Wednesday in Temagami and realized I have at least one rotted bunk (of 4). Sure wish I had of noticed sometime through the summer. Loaded the boat really careful (which was easy with high water this year) and Leah got it home in one piece on Thursday. I've got some work ahead of me... or maybe I can get Andy to change them after I launch and troll for Midland Harbour 'skis! I'll give him a couple hours and come back and pick him up! lol
