  1. What Nick.. you told him you were camping! LOL
  2. All depends on your patch thickness, boat hull thickness and if you want to tie into that channel as well. Rivets need to be the total of all material thickness + 1.5 x the rivet diameter to get a proper "shop head" when you buck them tight. 5/32 diameter would probably be large enough, not sure you need to go up to 3/16ths... but those are the right larger heads that get used on boats..
  3. I use Sikaflex1A building aircraft floats (or Rona now has Sikaflex as well that's near as good for about $7.50 a tube). No need to blow your funds on 3M5200. I have a bit of rivet stock for my own use, but anyone can buy from www.aircraftspruce.ca and get the proper larger heads for marine use.
  4. Appears you have full access to this area on the inside, so personally I would buck solid rivets on the patch. The one I showed above had zero access and is done with mandrel pull style "tank" rivets that have solid ends vs the normal style hollow pop rivets. I don't weld any aluminum thinner than 0.125" thick and even at that I'd rivet it if I can!
  5. Reopens on Monday, maintaining the groups no larger than 5, unless from the same household, policy. https://news.ontario.ca/ene/en/2020/05/backcountry-camping-available-at-ontario-parks-and-on-crown-lands-starting-june-1.html?utm_source=ondemand&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=m&fbclid=IwAR0hgZ9IeXouMSWChPi9J59ihoq3EjmKPSBvfag6OdYLtLuQOOGvyRBGREs
  6. Just leave it for now and see what it does. It may last your lifetime, may last a season. How old was the boat when this crack appeared?
  7. So the original crack... is it pushed out from the sharp corners of that welded on seat or platform channel? Did you/he stop drill the ends of the three cracks before welding that blob on there? It'll last for awhile, but I suspect it will crack open again as that channel continues to work the bottom skin. All you can do is keep an eye on it. I would have put a heavy patch on it, welded boat or not, to distribute the load. You would have to grind that weld down to do so now and I don't advise that at this stage, all you can do is wait and see.
  8. I've been here for 35 years, the wife lived on Sturgeon Bay as a 4 year old so I won't say how long that is, but I'm 58 and she's 2 years younger than me! lol It's a cycle, when her Father bought their place he had something like 235 feet of deeded front yard. When I went there in '82 there was about 60 feet of front yard. When the stop the drop crowd was crying that they'd bought "waterfront" (sold to them during a high water cycle with dredged channels to their docks) most in Sturgeon Bay were back to a few hundred feet of dry land in their front yards, or very shallow water with long docks as what was land was washed away. The current water level is the highest I've ever seen it, Father in Law is now approaching 80 and still on he Bay. Says he's seen it at this level before or damn close.
  9. I heard it was coming on June's payment and Terry was sharing his with me!
  10. Wondering if all the "stop the drop" crowd is happy yet, that wouldn't listen that the issue was cyclic and spent millions of $$'s on studies and town hall meetings??!! Last week the "tide" came in to Penetang Harbour and had the entire wharf, parking lot and the Dock Lunch under water.
  11. Female Sin City cop... Smiths Falls.
  12. No need Dan.. not offended. Just a "don't shoot the messenger" memo! LOL
  13. Hey I'm not telling you where to buy stuff, just the messenger of where NOT to buy stuff or if you did to return it for replacement/refund. I don't imagine anything currently available from CTC is any better than PA or HF either, just a different colour paint.
  14. With the kids all gone from home, I looked at some of these to keep my runway cut. Husqvarna's are about $4500 each and I'd need at least 4. That'll buy a lot of diesel for the tractor and I suspect these robo mowers will be the next target of thieves at that value. Even the $1000 city yard model OI, how many times a summer does the lawn need cutting and how much $$ to have someone do it each time and not worry about it.
  15. I properly social distanced today, never stepped foot anywhere but my own yard! While out doing an hour long test flight I noted that most every dock in Severn Sound has a boat(s) tied to it, multiple people on them (approaching at least 30 in one case), the usual multi vessel "rafting" groups around Honey Harbour, Beausoleil and Giant's Tomb / Beckwith Islands. Why we haven't left home for camp, at least we can plan supplies while stuck here at home, with a full size freezer, fridge and pantry full of stuff.
  16. Black flies almost none existent today here in Penetang, but you know what that means. Mosquitoes are out!!
  17. MMM squirrel, get out the chicken skewers !
  18. The whole things nothing but a farse OI, you don't even need to know how to start or operate a boat !
  19. Black flies are THICK here in Penetang already and ice out happened on Monday on Lake Temagami, so I'd suspect black flies start this weekend based on our 16 years on the lake..
  20. Cards aren't issued by the Government OI. They were/are issued by private companies/power squadrons etc and there is no registry for them. Many of these fly by night operations that issued boaters cards are gone, so makes it hard to get a copy in many cases.
  21. If you got your card in 1999 like a few of us did, good luck getting a copy!
  22. If you own any Harbor Freight stands STOP using them and check the product number. 454,000 of them out there that may have the ability to collapse. https://www.thedrive.com/news/33572/harbor-freight-recalls-jack-stands-that-could-suddenly-collapse?fbclid=IwAR1X5za85AEA-pEz7ePEz6SL22585er0sFU3FQHiYWhrM4Y4cm9DY3gAcVM
  23. Transport Canada's boating RECOMMENDATION is to only boat with members of your own household. That said it's not law and fishing in a 14' or larger boat and staying at your own ends = more than 6' of seperation. To follow the social distancing rules under the emergency act, take separate vehicles to the launch, one guy puts the boat in and the other jumps in the nose. Doable and I have at least two buddies doing so since this all started.
