  1. It was last April, Chad... that I got a letter from Hydro One stating they were having problems processing bills in the North. I finally thought they were adjusting my bill was all, with my emailed in meter reading photo so I'd be good for the summer without paying... but that never happened and it hasn't got better since.
  2. I don't think the local YMCA would be too happy with Randy floating her in their pool...
  3. Great boat... make it conditional on Giesler Marine going over the motor before money changes hands. Be well worth the $300 or so spent for a couple hours in their shop.
  4. I have sent in pictures of our meter, in Temagami, going back to March 2013 with no response or billing correction. I then did so again in October and went after them seriously, day after day, as I've been "estimated" every month since the smart meter went in. I am now at over double BILLED to date than what the meter reads.. that was installed Sept 2009. So.. I've paid them for enough hydro to get me to Sept 2016 basically, so should have no bills until then (but I know they won't work it out that way). It took me until late November to get them to stop sending bills with past due and interest on top.. and I even got two demand letters for immediate payment. So I went after them again and told them "to go disconnect me then, but get the guys to read the meter before they do" ! They told me I would get a corrected bill soon... that was November 29th ! Haven't seen a thing since..
  5. You know Simon.. you probably drove right past the door... you should have brought it with you!!
  6. What ever route you take.. and there aren't many options.. be sure to find the end of that crack and drill a 3/16" hole another 1" further over. You could drill holes all along both sides and lace it together, but I'd be more tempted to do as Bill said and rivet aluminum to both sides and make a sandwich.
  7. Exactly Bruce... I'll beg or steal if need be to keep the house at 23C with Jen at home again this week. Furnace is turned up and the fireplace is burning in the basement.
  8. I'd open one on Temagami... but trucking in the Dancing girls from Quebec would keep us in the red...
  9. Nobody ever watch Grumpy Old Men.... I'm sure they have a taxi service... or she personally walks you back to your hut ! A bars a bar... you're supposed to have a DD to get you back home.
  10. Like that drift in front of it Rob.. .pretty neat.. and you can sled right on it.
  11. My Point and Shoot shot from today, at 75 MPH.. The Gin Rocks Lighthouse and Coast guard station, just North of Beausoleil Island
  12. Beautiful shots Hun!!
  13. Well before you get too carried away calling him a thief... and yes Cliff like others have said let the insurance company deal with it..... did you stop at Licks Burger on the 400... seems to be a common game there. Gal with a duck taped on bumper backed into Leah while pulling my Lund home last year.. and thankfully only got the rear passenger side door... this was a $2145 repair including the $68 bracket to fix the running board. Oh.. you can't see the dent in the first picture.. it's clear in the second .. lol
  14. Can't imagine what it does to your wrist and arm after awhile. Not sure what he's splitting, but it's like the Silver Aspen at the lake.. has a bark almost like a coconut shell. So wet it splits easier than poplar. I too would like to see him do that with some narly hard maple in the back yard here.
  15. What amp draw do the hand warmers have??? .. and what is the output from the stator/ regulator on the machine? After headlight and ignition how much allowable draw is left? Can't imagine they're a really high draw item, but I'd be making sure before blowing what is running your ignition and lights.
  16. They don't care Dave.. as long as there is steak on the menu at the next management "convention".
  17. About $30 a bush cord for fuel, oil and bar oil WB and many hours of work. If you have to buy the trees... forget it and let a "processor" do the work. I've been burning the tree tops from saw log and veneer cutting, that I've allowed to be harvested off the property and dead falls for the past 15 years. About time I got the sawmill guy back again for another trip through the bush for revenue and more good tops to cut and split.
  18. I don't buy wood tb4me.. I cut and split it myself by hand from the 120 acres of red oak and maple I have in the back yard.. Have no propane either other than my fishing hut heater and BBQ.... but yah the oil bills suck. Don't lose track of the fact I have an 1800 sq ft x 10' ceiling work shop that has a 6kw electric heater keeping it at 55F that runs pretty steady all winter and gives me a warm place to make some revenue when I find time to get out there..... and then the pool pump and house A/C uses about the same hydro all summer so it's pretty constant month to month. A few more years.. and the place will be for sale... Oh.. and Entropy.. they've already banned wood stoves in many municipalities..
  19. Woodenboater.. I just had a home inspection, requested by Royal Sun Alliance (to assess value) after taking my money blind for 19 years... guess I'll know shortly if they truly just wanted to make sure if I was covered for replacement or they wanted a reason to bail. 3 zero clearance fireplaces in the house... although they seem to prefer those to wood stoves. I'll know soon enough. That said.. if you have to buy your wood at $300 a bush cord, you're not going to save much over alternate methods. I've already burnt 2 full bush cords in the house this year... and I'm thinking at the rate oil has been going up and what we've been using I'll be burning another 2 or 3 full cords before spring comes.
  20. Bill the propane shortage is "arranged" just like the gas shortage in the late 70's was, so they can raise prices. Simple as that... because they can and they shipped our propane off to other parts of the world to "cause" it. I had my furnace oil tanks filled again on Friday.. just 5 weeks since last filled. $1782 for 1294 litres of dyed furnace oil.. better known as farm diesel! $1.38 / litre and that's with no road tax on it.. what is diesel selling for at the pumps these days??. We're being hosed at every turn... I could have had him put the same fuel in the tractor's tank beside the hangar for 15 cents less a litre as "coloured diesel". Makes no sense. Hydro bill yesterday.. $808.32.. and last months $836 ...same usage just 4 years ago would have been around $500 with a yearly average of about $5500. Now with time of use.. the doubling of the actual usage bill with "delivery" (that use to be $17.95/month fixed) I'm looking at $8k years now for hydro alone. Thank god I can still cover all this, but the days are growing thin and in a hurry...

Ok.. if Striks won't work for me.. you're on deck! I'm just going to wire the new one into my battery charge shoe as it's different than any other I can find.

  22. That their new forward Rob... if so they might win tonight!
  23. LOL Dave!
  24. Such horror stories these guys are feeding you... Leah's happy as can be these days. I just finished our master bathroom a week or so ago... after about 14 months of seriously working on it in between hospital sittings and estimate I have a good 500 hours of labour into it. In another 5 months it will only be 19 YEARS since I started digging the footings for this house! She's waited a long time for that big storage closet to turn into the bathroom it was always supposed to be......she should be happy.. lol I like Dave's first response the best though... As for "fighting" over what to do... I suspect fighting isn't really the right word, discussing might be a better fit? If not.. then suggest most of these guys are right.
  25. I can't have sheep Art... too many of the guys on here would want the OFC parties held here... As I noted previously fisherman7.. check each municipalities website and find their mill rate and see which one better suits the financial situation. There is a huge difference from place to place thanks to the mill rate being pretty much based on the average home. As an example... in the town of Penetang for instance the average house cost is under $150k for the main town core, so they try to get 2 grand each out of those for taxes. So that leaves a $900K water front to pay 6 times that or around $12,000/yr. We have no "in town / out of town" rate differential, all pay the same.... where as if you were in Temagami you pay the full mill rate to be in town and anyone that is outside the town limits in the municipality only pay 1/2 the mill rate. So a $200k house in town pays the same taxes as a $400K house out of town. Not many do that, but they're out there.. Where I am right now use to be Tay Township... but we got screwed when we were amalgamated into the town of Penetang, with a 43% tax rise the day it happened.
