  1. Wow thats a big fish. Its nice to see you release it, man just think of how big it will be at the end of August!
  2. Hi All, Just pursuing through cabelas instead of working and found this outfit in the bargain cave. My link Anyone have any opinions on it? I am looking to get a 7 weight combo at some point this year.
  3. very exciting game, glad I changed my pick to holland this morning in my pool.
  4. Thanks guys good advice. I was hoping you guys would tell me I only needed the 1. @Ryan - Your right my time is limited with the little on, so no point investing big dollars in set up I can only use a few times a year (especially for steelhead). I'll be on the look out for a 7wt and larger arbor reel. I definitely wish my 5wt had a second spool for changing from changing to floating and sinking. @Flyguy5 I actually had Ken teach me some of the basics to fly fishing, he is a good guy who definitely knows his stuff.
  5. Hey, I am hoping to get some solid advice before going out to purchase my next fly fishing outfit. Right now I have a 5 weight which is great for alot of situations especially fishing trout on rivers such as the grand. But once summer hits I feel a little stuck as I want to start fishing for bass on the fly and then hopefully move into fishing steelhead come fall. Obviously the 5 wt is not made for casting larger flies associated with above species. So my question isd o I need 2 separate outfits to fish bass and steelhead or can I get 1 that will do both. Also any suggestions on outfits that would work for a guy on a budget? Thanks, mark
  6. Great report. Love the mustaches
  7. I am lucky with Cheyenne as she is abit of Princess and never likes to go too far from us. That said she is a bit of dominant personality when it comes to other dogs.
  8. My fly rod is a triumph fairly decent for the price. Only paid $150 bucks for the entire combo. I wouldn't worry too much about it being made in China, since almost everything is and sometimes when something is made in Canada or USA for that matter its mostly just final assembly. Who's to say where the blank or graphite was sourced from?
  9. Oh I am also impreseed that they Schutzhund trained. I read up on that and it ain't easy, my trainer does schutzhund competitions.
  10. Wow this a good thread I am actually heading up this weekend to a family cottage with my shepherd. I guess outside of porcupines, skunks maybe? Also if they are not good swimmers, a life jacket couldn't hurt if you come across any deep water at least they are ok if they fall in. I would imagine trying to rescue a 100+ lbs dog would not be easy. Bring benadryl for allergic reactions works really well for dogs and I think its equates to roughly 1mg per pound. This can be confirmed online or with your vet.
  11. Love perch. Just fried some up on Friday, its one of the few fish I buy from the grocery store because when I see yellow perch from Canada/Ontario I know its likely from lake erie and is fairly fresh and not a farmed species.
  12. Yeah I like the look of Argentina, the italians needed a change in mindset. They have skilled players but refuse to play attacking football until its too late.
  13. I am wallowing in Italy's defeat. With Canada not in the tournament, I reverted to my roots to cheer for, but with the Azzurri playing so poorly the question is who do i get behind and cheer for now?
  14. Wow that is unbelievable, what idiots.
  15. Thats a good point on the g8/g20. Also I have found once summer hits most cottages book for a week and usually start new weeks on the saturday or sunday, so likely you will cross days. What about heading further north maybe nipissing has a place you can rent for a few days?
  16. Felt it out here in Guelph.
  17. I saw lots of cougars when I lived out in oshawa. Pretty sure its a designated sanctuary... Also a great place to hunt mullets.
  18. Welcome.
  19. while I don't disagree you should be able to tie your own leaders. A knotless tapered leader from a reputable company will only cost 3-4 bucks each. So its a question of time vs money. In the beginning my feeling is spending more time casting and fishing and less time tying knots on the water is probably going to lead to a better experience for the beginner.
  20. Another newbie here as well. Practice is key with casting. I don't practice enough and am still a terrible caster, that said you don't have to be a great caster to get fish but it helps A good piece of advice I received was when starting out only cast as far as is comfortable. For example if you can only cast 20 feet well, position yourself to make a good 20 foot cast at the fish rather than trying to put a bad 30 foot cast out there.
  21. It was so close last night. Thanks for meeting up with me Ryan, I had a great time.
  22. I drove through that area on my way into the east end of algonquin last summer. I don't know any specifics but I believe round lake has decent fishing.
  23. great report. Its been 3 weeks since I hit the river, the itch is getting worse by the day.
  24. Agreed Big Cliff. No info on yourself or simple hello, it comes off cold very transactional. But welcome to the board peter, you will find there is not only fishing partners here but a great community of people where one can learn alot. I am fairly new myself.
