welcome Kash is a nice lake up there. I have a friend in MacDonald Bay. You should have no problem getting your 1st muskie.
  3. my experience has been different although i throw bigger blade baits. yes, they might be slightly heavier but the effort needed to cast and figure 8 all day is reduced with a longer rod. they load up nicely and fling out the baits with ease whereas with a shorter rod, you have to muscle the casts. my back isn't what it used to be either and figure 8s are much easier with a long rod (ie. no bending over) just my opinion as well.
  4. Garry that's scary stuff about your client nearly hooking you. I think a little common sense goes a long way.. there are times when JP and I are both casting with 8'6" rods on a shorter (17') boat. I've never felt concerned and I doubt he has either about something bad happenign. Just be aware and you won't have any issues IMO. I started out using rods from 6'9" to 7'6" but after trying the longer types, I won't go back.
  5. 50lb braid & quality fluoro/stell leader will stop the bleeding. you will straighten hooks before you lose another lure to a snag.
  6. correct.. 8' would be my top choice for a small bucktail/topwater rod. it's also a good length/action for a trolling rod. read this
  7. always incognito Joey
  8. not really a laughing matter i s'pose but, during the great flood of '04 i had made a trip to DC and snapped this pic. an irate GeeDubya rowed out and complained that it was his fish and threatened to blast me out of the water. so we left. it's funny now that i think back on it.
  9. worn out / lifetime warranty does you no good when you're out on the lake trying to separate you from the fish.
  10. one of the industrial supply/tool places on dixie rd north of the 401 had 'em a few years ago when i was looking. if not, they can get them in for you. I want to say brafasco but not positive on that one.
  11. they're better than nothing but will struggle with anything bigger than a 4/0 hook. don't even think of cutting through the shank.
  12. jbs doesnt carry the big jig heads and bps doesn't really carry anything worthwhile. get in touch with the red october boys out in buffalo. they will have what you need. www.redoctoberbaits.com
  13. thanks for the input everyone. i am going to stick with the costa del mars.. been trying on different kinds in the last few days and the costas just seem to fit my face best. thanks for the recommendations of steepanccheep.com too. i've been eyeing them as well but they typically have poly or 400 lenses. I don't want plastic lenses and i am going to go all out and get their flagship, glass 580 lenses
  14. has anyone rented a box in NF, NY and had items shipped there? any recommendations for such an establishment?
  15. a good general rule is.. if warm water species like carp and gar have moved in, the water's warm and the pike are long gone.

  17. could be nothing turn off the fish id
  18. ya gotta admit.. they're often best dressed. let's compare shall we? nice hat, collared shirts, manicured beards.. arms around each other, straight from the runway dirty 'ole hat, tshirt out of a "2-4", out of control facial hair.. no man in sight.
  19. thanks gang anyone try the H3Os? the idea is good - you get different lenses for different light conditions without having to buy separate shades. however they are plastic and i'm being told a glass lense is far superior. H3O I hear good things about ocean waves in backwater green too..
  20. as a long time 'el cheapo' polarized sunglasses user i'm finally thinkn it's time to step up to serious eyewear. seems like there are many options out there.. costa del mar, oakleys, h2o optics, etc etc just wondering what everyone here likes. at the top of my list right now are the costa del mar 580 amber or green mirror lenses. is there a big difference between the 400 and 580 series lenses?
  21. shoooda bought a daiwa
  22. tough to catch trout with no rod holders and a 200hp motor generally speaking, you have to "fish" for whatever you're trying to catch on gbay. unless you're drifting a worm harness like gb says, pike will probably be your best bet. if you're serious about fishn the bay, take next weekend to explore that's how we all learned, don't concern yourself too much with putting fish in the boat & realize the limitations of your rig out there...
  23. crosby's a better overall player in my mind. ovechkin is the better offensive talent but a defensive liability.
  24. it's georgian bay - there's fish.... and rocks many of which are not on the map. there's a reason why most boats on the bay are aluminum. stay home!
  25. i would think go would be your quickest option the other option would be to take the subway to islington, take a mississauga transit bus to square one and transfer over at hurontario and head south.
