  1. what i am more interested in is are NWT moose getting themselves stuck to vehicles?
  2. you've got 6 months till opener keep your eyes open for a used calcutta 401 series. you will likely have to go new and compromise on the rod if you're dead set on a 2 piece. most people use one piece muskie rods and the manufacturers don't provide a lot of selection in 2pc. an 8' one piece will fit in a typical sedan.. especially if the rear seats fold down exposing the trunk, FYI. regarding rods and action, i consider st croix to be the gold standard when it comes to musky rods and noticed the other manufacturers are a bit 'generous' with their ratings. ie. a shimano H is the equivalent of a st. croix MH. so keep that in mind when you're going through all these suggestions.
  3. I can't deal with braid freezing up outside so I prefer mono. At deep depths you do have to become a line watcher instead of a line feeler though if you are using light lures. Anything looks odd, set the hook -- I usually see the strike before I feel it. If you are aggressively jigging a spoon, it don't matter braid or mono, they usually smash it.
  4. Forget open Sundays. What they need is an online presence that does not consist of pdf links.
  5. match it to the lures you will be using. ie if you're jigging heavy spoons for trout you propably want a heavier rod than if you were using small soft plastics.
  6. I think you're right on that Hydro should not be affected much. Our Enbridge/Union Gas/Put fuel in the vehicles bills however.... I don't understand why there doesn't appear to be much opposition to the carbon tax..
  7. yep. it's blowing out. couple of things you can try. - look at the three hook hangers and make sure they are straight and aligned with each other - slow down and try to observe which way the lure wants to go. bend the lure attachment eye opposite of this direction it wants to go. i also recommend removing the middle treble on that lure. no real need for it. sometimes, there's nothing you can do to fix it and it's a defect. if that's the case, send it to me and i will dispose of it for you. these lures are terrible.
  8. dorsett skated away from martin.. then pummeled komarov. pretty sure that was what that was all about.
  9. because a low-profile reel that does what you want (everything) doesn't exist. the tranx is propably the closest thing, but calling it low profile is a stretch since it is a massive reel. you're getting the same advice by 80% of the posters who have bin der dun dat for a reason. you're not bass fishing anymore -- get a man's reel.
  10. two teams moving in opposite directions last night. wonder what, if anything, van will do with the sedins and miller.
  11. If you think the Calcutta is too expensive just remember you have 8 lòooooooong months till June opener to save your pennies or find a deal on a used one.
  12. in that case, the calcutta 400 has been mentioned many times in this post, it's one of the best all-round muskie reels you can buy.
  13. once you get into double 10s above, and you plan on fishing them hard, you almost need a specialized reel ie. tranx, 7000 abu, winch, beast or one of the saltwater non-levelwinds like the trinidad or avet reels if you don't want to go that route, get a calcutta 400 series. i use an avet sxj mc. it is round but only about the size of a 6500 series abu. the lack of a level wind is a non-issue for blade baits but you would not want to throw anything that requires slack line (ie. jerkbaits) or doesn't pull very hard. in that sense, it's a one-trick-pony. however, if you're throwing big blades 90% of the time anyway, what's the issue?
  14. weather network says great lakes are 3-4 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. that can change quickly but not with the 14 day forecast we're seeing. i predict lots of lake effect snow for those of us in the usual snowsquall areas and a bunch of happy sledders but propably a late ice up
  15. i so miss the manual transfer case in my old jeep. not much can go wrong. yank the handle and you're in 4wd. a freaking software recall had 4LO in-operable for months before chrysler fixed the 'fix' in my grand cherokee.
  16. no, we get it 'free' due to it being bundled for 'free' with wife's share everything cell phone plan with rogers if you connect to the nhl gamecenter site (not the rogers site but the nhl.com site) using a vpn/ip, from say... russia , it will be $99USD / year. this is how i did it in years past. never pay 200.
  17. spot on.. except I somewhat disagree with #4 -- as it depends on your current viewing habits. we cut cable over 2 years ago, with the combination of a 'box', subscriptions to netflix and nhl gamecenter we miss nothing from traditional cable tv. but it all depends on what you watch. if you like watching the evening news, or are a live-sports junky, i agree, it ain't gonna work.
  18. do you watch live sports? if so, a box is not for you if you cant live without the national, a box is not for you tell us about your viewing habits and those of us who are familiar with them can be of better use. the boxes themselves are all the same in terms of what programming they can show. some do it faster, some have remotes, etc. you can test drive what a box will do by downloading kodi to your computer and like gbw said, hit up youtube for all the latest on kodi add-ons.
  19. What type of lakes do you fish. A 9.9 would be fine on small cottage lakes.
  20. yap, dave gets it. or just fish at night.
  21. trick is to position the boat in such a way that the background will be indistinguishable.. like this: ..and the classic, "in the water"
  22. may have to make a return visit for 40% off
  23. nylander is only a point behind too
  24. that is awesome DanD
  25. try JBs. they are great boxes for storing at home but beware if you have a smaller boat (< 18') and plan on bringing the box, they take up a lot of real estate.
