  1. Yes, they are man made to some degree. The trent severen lock system made most of the lakes or enlarged them back in the 1800's. I believe muskie and small mouth bass are native fish to the area.
  2. I understand patterns changing and we all try to adapt, it's in the spring that I really notice the change around the post spawn areas. They got hit hard for a few years around my place and we eventually saw the numbers drop, along with zebra mussels and the subsequent water clarity changing have an impact. I don't believe that the Ministry will ever support re-stocking. Walleye are not natural to the area in the first place and expensive to raise fro stocking. Last spring, I either caught fish over or under the sloth the off slot fish thrown in. I wonder how the Ministry would look at stocking if the funds came from the corporate world???
  3. I was pike fishing recently on some flooded areas of zone 17 and the pike were smashing Williams spoons in the red devil pattern. Make sure you have a couple of them in the medium size. They out fished every other lure we tried.
  4. I feel for you, hopefully you can find it floating somewhere and get some faith back in fellow humans. That seems like a big job to steal a pontoon boat from the water. Keep us posted.
  5. I just wanted to compare anglers opinions on walleye fishing in the kawarthas. The reason I ask is that some of the younger crowd say the walleye fishing is great, yet some of us older anglers might not think that way because of the memories from as early as 10 years ago. I had seen a slight increase in smaller walleye last year and hope that the population starts to recover. The countdown is on, but my feeling is opening will be a tough one due to the water levels and temps.
  6. I would not use a fillet knife for everyday kitchen work. They are sharp enough, but not the best for chopping. Find a quality knife like the one you posted. Pampered Chef make a pretty good knife.
  7. I can't watch a game that is commentated by Bob Cole, time to hang them up BOB!
  8. I'm on Pigeon Lake and it looks like it's going to be the same as the last few years. I had to secure the wood on my dock so it won't float away. My dock and boat look like they are an island by themselves. State of emergency in Minden from what I hear. I'll tell you, I'm glad my home is far enough away from the shoreline that the high water won't affect my home, but there are many that are going to get flooded out.
  9. The Sens look tired and out gunned.
  10. Well, I have to give the Sens credit for that comeback and win in overtime.
  11. That's disappointing for a Canadian team. Move them to QC like someone else mentioned. 1/2 hour is too far, what a joke. That sounds soooo small town.
  12. All I can say is to bring worms. I know most of us like to use artificial baits, but the worms will help if the bite is slow. Oh yeah, have fun!
  13. One of the lucky ones! Thanks for sharing.
  14. I believe one of the concerns with gobies is that they raid the nests of other fish, but yes, the bass have had a hay day with the explosion of gobies.
  15. If the lake is connected to a system that filters into the great lakes there is a chance you have gobies. Closer to the Great Lakes the higher the chance of gobies..
  16. Rangers are a lot bigger team than the Bruins are, so the Sens will have their hands full. The Leafs being one of the youngest teams in the league scared the heck out of the Caps. The Leafs had a great year and got me excited about watching them again, rather than going through the motion of being a diehard. I still shake my head at Gardiner though, tons of talent, but can be frustrating to watch at times.
  17. That's quite the haul, no wonder your kid is hooked! Thanks for sharing!
  18. I agree it looked like bad ice. It gave Nylander fits. Worst play of the night was giving the puck to a Cap that was down on the ice with 4 Leafs around him and no other Cap player, what was Brown thinking.
  19. We definitely have to be more careful as we age. I screwed my back up last year (again) taking the motor (25 hp) off my boat. It wasn't the weight, but sudden jolt as it tipped over and I went to stop it. Had an MRI and it showed 3 herniated disks, a small tear and pressure on some of the nerve roots. (I do have an ongoing back issue) It's hard to let go and it sounds like you have the same approach. I had the neighbour's 16 year old come over and put it on this spring, he lifted it like it was a 6 hp. LOL I promised myself I would start saying I can't help lift something, help someone move, rush at any job, etc. I hope you can recover quickly so it doesn't keep you off the water!
  20. I always look forward to catching a mess of these in the spring and having a few fish fries. They are best out of the colder water.
  21. That would not be my first choice, Rice might be a better bet. OR Quinte.
  22. I hope the Leafs watched the Oilers game last night. It could be a great lesson learned without having to experience it themselves. They better be ready!
  23. I definitely like a MH when fishing wacky style in any condition, but especially around weeds.
  24. I remember the Leafs winning the cup! Those Sens are up to their same old same old playoff effort.
