  1. I've worn pretty much everything over the years. Best suit I ever had was a goretex one made by Fenwick, it lasted over 10 years and was bombproof. Cabelas and Bass Pro are both good, but if forced to choose I'd have to give the nod to Bass Pro rainwear. The best value imo is the Pro Qualifier suit from Bass Pro. I like the fit better than the 100mph suit and they're pretty much bulletproof. Cheaper too, especially if you get the suit on sale. I'm wearing a Simms jacket and bibs now. Fantastic fit and finish but time will tell if stands up.
  2. Rednecks do too. I was fishing in Pennsylvania a few years back and watched from the opposite side of the stream as 3 really rough looking camo clad hillbillies sneaked up behind my buddy and grabbed a trout lying on a snowbank 10' behind him. He had no clue. One of the funnier things I've seen while fishing.
  3. FWIW if you're an XL I have a set of Cabelas Gore Tex jacket and bibs in the classifieds section for a pretty smoking price.
  4. FWIW I'm doing what I can. Beyond pestering MP's I contacted OOD about this issue and will be writing a piece on this for the magazine from the perspective of the lodge owners that are directly affected. I would like to see the OFAH directly involved but not sure if that's going to happen. I'm also going to try and set up an online petition to collect as my signatures as possible.
  5. What a lot of people don't realize, for the most part networks aren't purchasing fishing shows anymore. They used to, not anymore. This means that these shows are for all intents and purposes infomercials as they're paying for their air time and any monies that are made are solely from sponsors.. I can't stand watching fishing shows in general, they pretty much universally bore me.
  6. It wasn't blown out yesterday, can't imagine it wouldn't be prime tomorrow.
  7. FWIW, Duane just sent me a package as thanks for helping him. A bunch of really primo hand rolled cigars and a couple of big bags of exotic coffee beans that smell absolutely fantastic. Thank you sir! The man is a true gentleman and I wouldn't hesitate to take him up on his offer if I could.
  8. This is devastating news! I honestly cannot believe they're doing this!! There's numerous lodges that operate off the ACR and this will put them out of business. Beyond that hundreds upon hundreds flock north on the ACR every fall to see the colours in Agawa canyon. This is a major blow to the tourist industry and frankly I can't see how the powers that be could let this happen!! I feel sick, I'm tentatively supposed to be travelling north on that train in mid May!! Total Bull!
  9. Very glad I could help John! And doubly glad I was able to help facilitate something for your most deserving son. I could be wrong but you might have more luck if you post your question over on the Canada board at Walleye Central. Beyond that if anyone else is considering a fly in trip drop me a line, I can almost certainly help.
  10. A couple people have contacted me to inquire assuming they would be joining me on this trip. (I wish ). I'm not going, I simply have a number of dates available at a discounted rate if anyone's interested in going themselves. Cheers
  11. I'm a few years away too LOL! I wish I could post the price Art, but in any case trust me, the discount is substantial.
  12. Hey guys, I have numerous contacts in the industry and an interesting opportunity just dropped into my lap. I thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone here wanted to take advantage. Scott Lake Lodge in northern Saskatchewan is pretty much as good as it gets as far as luxury Canadian fly in lodges go. The quality of the trophy fishing for lake trout, pike and grayling is outstanding as are the accomodations, food and guides. Here's the website if you'd like to look: http://scottlakelodge.com/fishing.html It's also VERY expensive at $5495 for 5 full days of fishing. I have been given a handful of dates for Scott Lake in August this year pretty much encompassing the entire month. I've also managed to secure these dates at a GREATLY reduced rate. I'd rather not say publicly, but if any of you are interested I'd be happy to tell you directly. Emails are okay but I'd really prefer a phone call. All of my contact info is on my website at www.canadafishingguide.net Cheers, Mike
  13. A fishing report from Bill, hell has officially frozen over. Sweet fish, Frank looks happy.
  14. Thanks Dan, but the reality is the vast majority of the outfitters I'm steering people towards have never been written about in a report.
  15. Sweet fish bud, glad to see you scratched the itch!
  16. Plenty of recommendations!! I'd be happy to help you if you contact me directly. (this is what I'm doing now ) Need to know where you're coming from and how far you're willing to drive to the jump off point. Also budget and preferred species. It's highly likely I can procure a better price for you as well as recommend a good lake. At the moment I'm working directly with over 80 outfitters all over the north.
  17. Duane is a solid dude. If anyone's thinking they might like to join his group, do it, you'll have a great time.
  18. Nice to see you post Ryan, looks like a great time. Side note, but man your kids are growing!
  19. I had something very similar made for my old shortbox Toyota pickup back in the day. Nice thing about mine the T-bar swiveled and was locked in place with a pin. With the pin pulled loading was a breeze. Just place the nose of the canoe into the T-bar grab the other end of the canoe and swivel it around to the truck cab, foam blocks in place already. Reverse process for unloading. A local welding shop made mine for around $60 and it was 10x more heavy duty than anything commercially available.
  20. Why a specialized trailer like that? A simple box trailer will suffice. Added bonus being you can put your gear in it and free up space in the car. Slickest way to handle a canoe is to weld a small rack onto the frame like this:
