  1. Years back on the lower French I ran into Babe Winkelman. He was there in a Ranger bass boat filming a musky show and stopped to chat with us. While talking this old fiberglass bowrider comes blasting around the point near us towing a highly intoxicated local of Francophone persuasion in an innertube. He had what appeared to be a bottle of rye in each hand. As they zoomed past the guy in the tube yelled out "Hey Babe look at me I'm a lure!! I'm a *#@*ing Wiggle Wart!!"
  2. Here's a webcam on Gowganda Lake, looks like the ice will be gone pretty soon. http://gowgandalakelodge.com/webcam/webcam.html
  3. Release a bunch of gopher snakes to eat the voles. Then you'll need to release an army of racoons to eat the gopher snakes. Finally release some cougars to take care of the racoons. This non toxic means of controlling the vole poulation is endorsed by the MNR.
  4. I'll make a believer out of you, just wait.
  5. Thanks to the conflicting advice from people who I have the utmost respect for I'll be running both long and short leads. Will also report back with my findings.
  6. Very interesting guys thanks. The long leads sound helpful, but I'm curious where in the water column the lure is running in relation to the leadcore? I'm picturing the line looking like a big C underwater with the long mono lead swinging up shallower. I guess type of lure would make a big difference too, flutter spoon compared to deep diving crank...
  7. That's interesting. What pound test fluoro did you use? For my needs I'm probably going to run 15-20' of 10lb Ultragreen.

  9. That's the one I got. Thanks again, here's hoping it lives up to the billing.
  10. Happy birthday Will, this is a milestone.
  11. My feeling is the earlier date will be a bit tougher especially for walleye. The water will be too cold. Pike fishing will be better though as they'll be concentrated in the shallow bays. I believe the June 15th date will be absolutely prime for everything. Which lodge are you going to, Camp 88 or Marmac? Or will you be staying at an outpost? I'm a big fan of White River Air and the Maclachlan's, they're great people!
  12. FWIW I picked up a 200yd spool from Amazon for $45 with free shipping. Mind you that's shipped to an address in Lewiston....
  13. Matty thanks that's exactly the feedback I was looking for! I'm flying into a lake trout lake on June 6 and was thinking this system would be better than dragging around heavy weights if the fish are deep for exactly the same reasons you mentioned. I did see some reviews where a couple of people were complaining about the line quickly wearing out and breaking. Hope that's not the case. I'm probably going to try the 12lb lead core and will run it on an 81/2' steelhead baitcaster rated for 10-17lb test.
  14. I'm assuming you've seen these Chapleau webcams, but there's not much doubt you'll be good to go for the last week of May on Little Miss. http://www.canadianfishing.com/1-galleries/for-webcam2/index.html I'm happy to help with some suggestions for Little Miss. Give me a call (contact info is on my website) and have the Little Miss map in front of you. Cheers
  15. Anyone use this stuff and can provide feedback? I had no idea this product even existed and it looks pretty intriguing.
  16. Those are both excellent questions. What's the lower reservoir though? That creek eventually just flows into Bronte. I'll guess that most of the reservoir froze solid, with all the fish stacking up in the only tiny section of deeper water right at the dam. Some were bound to slip over the dam with the fish being so concentrated there.
  17. I consider myself fairly literate and I have no idea what you meant in both statements.
  18. Man you have a lot of toys! When did you get the Argo with the tracks? (think that's what it is?) Is there any outdoor related gadget/gizmo/transportation device you don't own? LOL!
  19. Fantastic! You're inspiring me to get out with my own kids for panfish.
  20. I'm flying out of White River on June 6 now, not worried about that. But I'm now slated to fish a small brook trout lake NW of Wawa on May 21. That could be dicey I think.....
  21. Yeah that was my buddy, he had the map addressed to me though. Lorne's maps are good with only one drawback. They're laminated so it's next to impossible to mark them. If that's something you want to do ask him and he'll send you just the paper map.
