  1. get him or the bank to send/fax you a draft/copy of the certified cheque and some contact info on the bank branch and a name. call the bank to verify the account/cheque number is authentic. or just go to the bank together when you deposit the cheque. gonna be a little embarrassing if he is standing at the counter when they say its counterfeit. if he wont spend 5 minutes at the bank with you, tell him to take a hike. if that doesn't satisfy you, then insist on cash. dont beat the guy up too much, there are alot of sellers but not alot of buyers!!!
  2. the trailblazer i rented in florida was new and awesome, but from the stories i hear from friends that own one, im glad i dont!
  3. salt water id be a flounder and just lay around on the bottom. wouldn't even bother flippin over every now and then. im thinking freshwater id be a walleye, because around my boat they seem pretty safe.....
  4. ive got the 2006 - its ok but doesn't have nipissing! do a double check on the 2007!
  5. 2950 is a pretty optimistic rating for a single axle with a 3500 lb axle and 3400 lbs of tire rating (likely). the manufacturer is suggesting it only weighs 500 lbs, which doesn't sound right. and if it does wigh 500lbs, its not built to carry 2950. good luck with new one!
  6. not all 7 pins are active in all cases - you only need the ones that apply to you, in this case the same 4 wires from your flat 4 connector. irishfields drawing is correct - the center is auxillary - in almost all cases when i find problems with bargmans the installer has used the drawing incorrectly - ie the image is reversed, close attention needs to be paid to front/rear view of plug - oftent the incorrect wiring is exactly reversed. remove, clean, fit the wires and go! good luck
  7. im assuming of course that your boat is small enough to fit between the fenders. if it sits over the fenders then the whole idea of lowering it is impossible. if you do reverse the axle you will have to remount the fenders, no big deal if they are bolt on, but if it is a welded setup.... drop axles and inverted axles can do wonders for narrower boats. but they have no place on larger boats where wheel height + fender clearance dictate the height of the boat. if you have any extra room between the keel and the axle on your current setup you could consider moving the bunks or rollers further out to pick up a few inches..again if you fit between the fenders. smaller tires (fat boys??) of equivalent load ratings can lower the trailer as well..
  8. almost all homebuilts of that fashion will be nonplaning, aka slow and power will be irrelevant, ie a 30hp doesnt push the pontoon houseboats we built any faster than a 9.9. an aluminum prefab system with rails is a good investment, deck it and build your camper top, it will plane and get you places! if you were to buy a new motor to put on the homemade boat it is not worth it - a boat motor and trailer package is about the cost of the motor + materials. the barges and houseboats we bilt are on an injection molded plastic pontoon system that we patented. each one floats 1400 lbs and is about 6feet long. 2 bow sections and a middle equal an 18 foot boat. they are quite large and non planing. my 2 cents - someone has already figured out quality cost effective pontoon solutions. buy one and enjoy building the top to your specs and budget. or buy a wreck of a pontoon boat, strip it to the water and rebuild!
  9. the MNR and hunting regs are going to have no impact on the answer you are looking for. as sinker said, local bylaws will determine rural boundaries for firearms use. likelu on their website, certainly at the municipal office. in my area the rules for firearm discharge happen to be identical with the rules for open air burning....
  10. nylon winch strap secured with bolt and nylon lock nut. install under tension
  11. i have a friend with a vet clinic, always busting her chops about the bills. she raised an interesting point. an overnight hospital stay for a human patient with some doctors care, a few tests and an xray is likely to run up a bill of around 10000, maybe even 2-3 times that (sick, but true). we've all heard the story of the broken leg on the US hockey trip with the 40000 bill from the american hospital. so she points out that the dog hospital uses all of the same equipment, follows the same procedures, and is staffed by doctors with similar (read expensive and long) educations. and the bill is say 1200 and everyone freaks out. not sure how valid the argument is but it did give me something to chew on. hope for speedy recovery!
  12. they are self locking, but not the nylon insert type. it is the shape of the nut that makes it self locking. the nut will be 'tight' as soon as it is threaded. it takes over 100lbs of torque to mount the nut on the bolt. put it on til ya see 2-3 threads showing out the back! this is from the maunfacturer - i haven't "done it before" ive installed hundreds of axles with this hardware.
  13. naw - its not so much how tight that nut is as it is how far it goes on. its locking mechanism is unlike others, it will take piles of torque to turn it right from the get go. (so a torque wrench is not helpful.)crank the nut on until you expose 3 threads of the bolt, to the rear of the nut. the bolt doesn't work loose or move, and they can be quite difficult to remove. it is improper to use these bolts a second time, they should be replaced each time they are removed for whatever maintanence, repair issue.
  14. aplumma's dog is right. we should listen to him. it worked for the zodiac killer
  15. lee valley, or online from workshopsupply.com (woodstock) still 25-30 per 10' length
  16. yes, i usually pull it half way up the ramp, rain, waves, etc.
  17. if the trailer tongue is long enough to open your tailgate/hatch whatever then its long enough. just cut off the excess. i built swing tongues for customers that made no difference cuz the boat fit the trailer, and you can swing away the tongue but not the boat. if they insisted on a swing tongue id have to make the trailer longer to allow for the trialers winch post and vstop to be behind the swing tongue - as in it made no difference!
  18. kijiji, classifieds, whatever. i negotiated a deal with some guy over a dozen emails and a week on my sailboat. when he didn't show up to get it i called him and he said his parents said no. id been dealing with a 12 year old the whole time! dont read too much into it regarding scammers, and schemes from kijiji employees. its just a bunch of lowballers and lowlifes wasting your time and theirs. that being said, i buy and sell piles of stuff off kijiji, the actual sale is usual a pleasant experience.
  19. i wonder how id launch my customers 34'trojan without getting the wheels wet?????
  20. ez lube axles are the better option over bearing buddies. if you have the option when purchasing a new trailer or doing a rebuild request ez lube, this system greases inner and outer with a few pumps of the grease gun. not something you can add after the fact, like bearing buddies. all my customers got ezlube whether they wanted it or not. maintenance with ezlube is so easy i actually do it! and trailers go in the water its where the boats are. maintenance is key!
  21. whatever it takes to get the trailer level. so level your trailer with the jack, and take a measurement. take a similar measurement on the truck. the difference is the drop (or unlikely) rise you will need. it is fairly important to run you trailker level off the truck. enjoy!
  22. camp still using trucks and snow machines - some years the ice doesn't drop til may 24.
  23. there are height limitations too, 8'6" in alot of places. i had a customer pay me to cut the top of of his bayliner cruiser to meet storage requirements!
  24. the dog in the bike race also has some nerve
