I know this is just a news report, but I think it is relevant to the conversation http://www.cnnsi.com/2012/football/nfl/05/03/seau.suicide.ap/index.html?sct=hp_t2_a4&eref=sihp

I'm still not sold on the viability of the Simcoe musky restoration, but I am happy to see a pic of such a hog. Maybe with genetics like that swimming around Simcoe the musky fishery will recover, maybe even in my lifetime.

I really think that are sending a message in this post that you did not intend, or that you are not seeing a connection that is clearly evident to others. If a history of concussions can lead to depression, than it is not a stretch to suggest that depression can lead to suicide. To claim that those who choose to end their lives are weak and selfish is a bit harsh in my opinion. Mental illness is a disease, and if not treated properly can lead to serious consequences. I do not know you, so I will not make assumptions about your life, and how you managed to recover from your concussion, but I do not think that just because you were able to overcome depression that you are justified in saying that people who commit suicide are weak and selfish.

I'm hoping to make it out, but really busy. If I do get to the islands it will be in the evening.

If the spool is interchangeable and you want the 3000 I would purchase the 2500 and buy a 3000 spool as these reels do not come with a spare spool. You could spool the 2500 spool with braid and the 3000 with fluoro. Use the braid in tinted water with a leader, and use the fluoro in clear water. I was never a huge believer in line transparency and the effect on fishing, but I fish Simcoe a few times a year, and have always used braided mainline. This year I am going to try running full fluoro line and see if it makes a difference. Never had any luck on Simcoe if you are wondering why I am looking to switch.

Really interesting debate here. I wish that the people who ran sports leagues were able to look at facts and express their opinions without offending or disrespecting others like you guys have. Just to add my input I think that brain trauma rather than steroid is likely to be a larger contributor if this was actually a suicide.

I agree with you on many points, especially that Seau was a tremendous player and deserves to be treated as a once in a generation talent who changed the game. Having said that I think that we as a society need to look long and hard about how we view brutality and violence in sport. Is it worth millions of dollars if it is going to cost you your health? I do not have any children, but I struggle with whether I would let my son play football knowing the long term effects that it has had on my body. I know my father had the same struggles. I makes you wonder whether as a society we need to look at what we value and change the way we think. Having said that I love watching and coaching football, I am just starting to think more about what effect playing the game has on the players.

Not sure what you meant by this, but I think that a discussion about whether Junior Seau may have permanently damaged his brain is very relevant and in no way tarnishes his legacy. Although I have no relationship with Junior Seau, I played football at a high level for 7 years in College and University. I am no where bear the physical specimen that Junior was, but I feel the long term effect of playing football on a daily basis. I was diagnosed with two concussions during my playing days, and am currently in my mid 30's, and know that my brain does not function at the same level as it once did. Please don't dismiss me as a dumb jock either, I earned an academic scholarship to a top Canadian university. I believe that I have direct experience with this issue. If you are dismissing the issue of brain trauma as a potential impact on Junior's death, especially if it was a suicide than I believe that you are the one who is tarnishing his legacy. A man's legacy should be the total accumulation of his life's work, not a snapshot of a point in history. Sorry to go on a bit on this topic, and I hope that you do not feel that this is an attack on you. As a person with direct knowledge of the long term impact that brain trauma can cause, and as a Amateur football coach I think that we should learn as much as possible about issues like concussions and football so that we can make the game that many people love as safe as possible. I do agree with you that as a society we need to look at why we put professional athletes on pedestal and how this may affect their lives. Just my 2 cents.

Algonquin Trout Opener ~ Pic's And Video

Great report as usual. Thanks for posting. -
Hard to believe that he killed himself. Makes one wonder if the repeated trauma to his brain he experienced as a player had anything to do with it.

If there is not much of a difference in terms of feel or price, and you like both reels, I would go with a shimano product. I have found it very difficult to get parts for reels made by Pure Fishing (the company that owns abu and a bunch of other brands). Shimano reels, especially those that are less than 5 years old, are much easier to get parts for. If you are looking to spend $200 plus on a reel than I would go with a shimano. I've had 2 reels made by pure fishing, a revo winch, and a pflueger patriarch that have needed parts, and have found it hard to get the parts. With a shimano reel I could drive up to the service center in Peterborough and get the parts that I need. Another consideration would be a rapala reel. My first baitcaster was a rapala r-type, and I have been to the rapala factory in Oshawa a few times. They also have excellent customer service.

The Tiger trout are really cool. I'm really interested if anyone has caught one. As far a splake fishing goes, earlier in the year is your best bet. I have had some luck in July with 3 way swivels in July. Much like lake trout, splake go deep when the water warms up.

Very tough news to hear. I hope his recovery is quick. -
I was waiting for this report. Now that I've seen it my jealous has subsided a bit...actually it hasn't. Thanks for sharing.

I have no experience with that particular store, but I almost always pay duty when purchasing baits from American retail stores. A good way to avoid taxes, and to pay cheaper postage is to get t=your purchase delivered to the states and to pick it up in the states yourself. A google search for "ship to buffalo" could give you some details.

I am seriously jealous of those monster brookies. -
I didn't realize that there was so much interest in fishing for pickerel, seeing as they are closely related to pike. You should try walleye, I hear they are very tasty.
-
I actually stopped in there today for a bit on my way home and was glad that I did. Got to meet Stacy, who seems like a great guy, and picked up some cool baits and some terminal tackle that I needed.

Was just looking online and protackle musky shop in Belleville has some. Here is the link: http://www.protacklemuskyshop.com/cataloguereels.php

I have heard rumours of gear kits. The problem is that with the purchase of a new reel and a gear kit you probably would be looking at the same cost of a TE. While a TE is a better reel according to most people, it is also a similar ratio to the regular revo toro, not the high speed one.
-
Is that a loaded question?
-
how about pictures of half naked women holding fishing lures
-
Apparently there is a new aluminum frame reel coming out from abu. They actually stopped making the revo toro's in lefty's, only the revo winch is available in lefty. With that in mid I would like to hijack this thread and announce that I am looking for a high speed revo toro 61 if anyone would like part with one.

I thought this was about musky fishing, just got the spelling wrong. I'm very disappointed.

I want to see that perch beside a tape measure and a pic where it's not extended away from your body...just messing with ya, what a hog.
