  1. If I had the money and was a righty and wanted to use a reel exclusively for casting I would get the Tranx. If I wanted a multipurpose reel I would get the 400 TE as it would serve you better for trolling.
  2. Nice report. I saw JP Derose talk this year and he seems like a very knowledgeable pro, who likes to share his knowledge. Thanks for sharing.
  3. I was planning on sleeping on your dock.
  4. I am seriously getting jealous of these brook trout posts. One of these days I'll get a reel for the 4wt rod my brother built me and I'll hit up some streams.
  5. Those are some nice sized trout. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Not sure if I'll make it out for opener, but really excited nonetheless. I should be spending more time on the water this year than I have in a long time.
  7. I've heard the same, and also about the parts not being available. I thought that shimano kept parts for their reels stocked for at least 5 years after they were discontinued. I was seriously considering buying a TE but now I'm not sure if I want to buy a reel that will last a lifetime if I won't be able to get it fixed.
  8. Looks like a nice outing. Fishing small streams is the way my grandfather taught me how to fish and something I really should do more of. Thanks for sharing.
  9. I would try a fly rod and float a fly downstream to them. On a different part of the river turn over a rock and see what is there to give you an idea of a fly pattern.
  10. I know gagnon's has cumara's, but that is a bit of a trek for you.
  11. Like some had said I would go in with a traditional spring strategy, smaller baits and close to spawning grounds, but always be ready to switch it up. If you notice that the lake that you are fishing has some well developed weeds, maybe try out some of the weed edges. Musky fishing is easy if you can figure out where they are and what they are eating. It's even easier when you can combine that with when they are eating. It's just not always that easy to figure any of that out, especially if you aren't mixing it up a bit.
  12. If I had a separate combo for topwaters I would spool up with mono, otherwise a leader should work fine. I've fished topwaters with straight braid before, and as long as you pay attention to your bait fouling is not a huge issue, nor was sinking. I find that the hookset can be tricky, as with braid it is not a set at all, I just reel when I start to feel tension.
  13. Are you talking about the fish or something else?
  14. Looks like a brookie to me.
  15. Cool. Let me know when you get the new stuff.
  16. Thanks. That sounds a lot like the pattern that worked last year.
  17. Any advice on colour? I'm heading out Sunday.
  18. Nice report, thanks for sharing.
  19. Quote of the year so far
  20. Thanks, I'll give that a go. The only way I've caught Kawartha walleye before is with musky lures, and I don't think that it would be ok to toss those on the weekend. h
  21. I got a last minute invite up to a cottage in the Kawartha's this weekend, and seeing as the only sport fish that is in season are walleye, and I have never really targeted them, I was hoping that you experienced walleye anglers could give me some tips on what type of tackle to pic up in order to target this species. Also if you could give me some tips on how to target them I would appreciate it as well. Thanks in advance.
  22. How much are you looking to spend, and are you going to be trolling or casting?
  23. I got 2 8" and 1 7"
  24. I was wondering if anyone has any experience using Amma Bama's or other hand made wood jerk baits for musky fishing. I recently had a chance to by some at a decent price, and I pulled the trigger. I was wondering if any one has these lures, and if they do, what the action is supposed to be like with them. I have head that they are worth the price due to the fact that the glide over almost on to their belly on the jerk, which can be a trigger for a strike. If you would be willing to share any experiences you have I would really appreciate it.
