Rude fishermen infringe on cottage enjoyment
Gregoire replied to FlyGuy5's topic in General Discussion
I just have an opinion about what is right and wrong. If I'm just out for a day of recreational fishing I could care less about being asked to leave. You do not have to agree with me. That is just my opinion. -
Rude fishermen infringe on cottage enjoyment

What I'm saying is that fishing is an enjoyable hobby for most of us. It's not a career. If you read my post carefully you would see that I think fishing around docks is quite fine if you respect the cottage owner. However if I was fishing a tournament I would fish the dock. I would also inform any homeowner who had a problem with me that I was in a tournament. If I was out for a day fishing I would have no problem moving along if I as asked to, providing I found the request reasonable, but I would avoid fishing a dock if I thought I was disrupting the homeowner. I would hate to see a change in the law that would prevent fishing docks. I think respect for people, even if you feel like they are not respecting you, is the best approach. Again this is just my opinion. I avoid fishing docks when people are present. -

Should we not have a fisherman's code about this. Maybe something like you shouldn't fish docks if there are people out on them. If you want to fish docks they should be fished early in the morning or during the week when cottagers are less likely to be present. Even though the dock is in the lake it is private property. In fact it can be a very expensive investment. My father in law just spent over 8 grand on his new dock. I could see why he would be upset if someone would damage it. Dannyboy I'm afraid you have it right here. If anglers are reckless around docks and boats the laws will change. Harrison, your attitude is what will get the laws changed. What is wrong with making your way to another spot if a homeowner/dock owner asks you to? In my mind it comes down respecting peoples property. Unless you are a professional fisherman, or in a tournament what is the problem with avoiding fishing a dock or shoreline where there are people present? I would feel uncomfortable fishing a dock when there are people out on their property. However I can see another side to this issue. If I was fishing a dock early in the morning and a person made their way to the dock specifically to yell at me I might want to make them aware of the law. I guess the time of day/week is the big issue for me. Fishing a dock at noon on a weekend when there are clearly people present is asking for trouble IMHO. -
I was having a similar problem. Now I use swivels.

The last time I was there they had slashed the prices on all shimano reels. The guy behind the counter told me shimano was cutting the prices on the reels. As a result the reels may be sold out. I was very tempted to buy a Calcutta for under 200$. I also noticed that they had no trigger x products. I'm not sure whas happening but I think shimano may be feeling pressure from other reel manufacturers and have lowered their price point to increase market share. Does anyone else know why shimano slashed their prices?

Did you check your guides to see if they were compromised and fraying your line? If your guides are the problem the brand of line won't matter?

Congrats on the successful first outing. Glad to hear i could help finance the new boat. You are killing it this year. I'd like to see a pic of the broken lure.

Went up to camping to Halfway Lake a week or so ago with my buddy. The bite was tough in general. I am guessing with the warm water the fish were pretty deep. All we had was a rented canoe, and I was not organized enough to get a topo map, something I always say i'll never fish without. The first day we hit the lake on the other side of the highway. Nothing but small bass and pike caught on worms and spinners. The next day we went out again. Very slow. Only one fish caught, but it was the biggest smallie I've ever seen. To make matters worse my buddy, who had only fished once before, and had never caught a bass, reeled it in. I had to get him to tighten the drag a few times. After he got the drag set he forgot which way to reel, and said the reel was broken. All in all it's a miracle the hook wasn't spit and that we landed the fish. You can tell from the photo that he was excited. Here is another pic with me holding the same fish. This should give you a better idea of the size of the fish. I am not holding it close to the camera, this fish was a big as it looks in this pic. This fish was released, so he is still swimming around somewhere in the lake. There was only one other decent fish caught. A smaller guy around 3.5 pounds. The park itself is awesome. A long way to go from TO, but empty and well organized. I think I have my buddy hooked on fishing. Hopefully next time we'll go to a place with a better bite.

Here is my Boy I still maintain that I got tricked. Never wanted a small dog. He has turned out pretty good so far. The only problem is my girlfriend won't let me take him fishing. One of her friends told her a story about a chihuahua getting eaten by a Musky.

A Aikman is an official service rep for Abu. The address is 2010 Novar Road in Misissuaga. Phone number is 905-277-3595. I have had some serious issues with a revo winch that I sent in for repairs. I used it only a handful of times and the spool tension adjuster fell off. I brought it to Aikman in April and am still waiting on the parts to be delivered. After a month I got an e-mail from pure fishing in Canada. Apparently they were moving offices. They told me that Aikman can provide warranty repairs. I would call them and see what they say. I got some results from phoning the US and emailing their US reps. I have gotten much better results dealing with rapala for warranties on a rod and reel. Having said that I did just purchase a revo toro. I like abu products but am questioning whether their lack of customer service makes it worth spending 200+ on a reel when I know rapala has great customer service and I have heard great things about shimano. Sorry for the little rant. I hope I answered your question.

I know with baitcast reels a lower gear ratios are meant for cranking. So I would guess a crankbait rod and some crankbaits would be a good match. Shimano has a crucial spinning rod that is crankbait specific. I could be entirely wrong on this, if I am I'm sure someone will correct me soon.

Thanks for the info. I'll post a report when I get back. Hopefully I'll find a boat to rent.

Thanks for getting back to me. I was thinking of bringing the musky gear for large northerns. Not sure if it is worth it as I will be packing light.

I'm Heading up from Sunday till Wednesday. I've gone a little crazy with purchasing tackle lately. A year ago it would have been my trusty abu spincast rod and reel and whatever tackle I could string together. Now I seem to have 3 baitcast setups with another on the way ((I got a good deal on a revo toro from ebay). Was wondering what to bring. I am going to bring some bass stuff, and want to experiment with drop shotting. Should I bother packing Musky gear or not? We plan on renting a boat, if that helps. Greg

What is this tournament all about?

I broke a new rapala r-type casting rod in April. Then on the week-end noticed that my r-type casting reel was not locking in after casting. Today I brought them to the factory and they were both replaced no questions asked. Needless to say I am very happy. I definitely will be purchasing rapala rods and reels in the future.

Hopefully I will have more photos to post. Thanks for the tips.

Hi all, I've been reading the board for a while now and dreaming about fishing. This winter I decided to invest in some new gear and get out on the water more often. I do most of my fishing from shore in the GTA. I was out of town for the pike opener and was afraid that I'd missed the best weekend of the year. I decided to head out anyway on Sunday and was glad I did. Despite the sometimes frigid conditions I managed to go 2 for 4 on pike and also hooked into 2 OSS largies. These were the roundest bass I'd ever seen. I netted and released them quickly. I would have been upset about losing 2 pike if not for the fact that I landed the largest northern of my life. I cannot figure out how to edit the photos or I'd post them, but the biggest fish was I very thick and around 35 inches. I was fishing alone so only got a picture of it on the ground. It was the biggest fish of my life and I wish I had a photo of me with it. The second pike was all beat up but and around 30 inches. I figure it barrel rolled in a fight as it had sores all over its body. If anyone can let me know how to edit photos from my Iphone so they can be uploaded I'll post the pictures. Hopefully I'll have more reasons to post reports this year.
