  1. Great way to spend the summer, Hawk, great pics!
  2. Garry, that's a well-reputed reel for a good price. Personally, I've never bought anything in the States and had it shipped here. What are the other costs, duties, and that sort of thing likely to add up to? Thanks, Chris
  3. The Xh weight, like using heavy line, is often as much for throwing big lures as itis for fighting big fish. If you're casting 6 oz+ baits, you might be better off with the XH, imo.
  4. 31 inch, 10 lb walleye
  5. I don't think your teacher likes fishing, or fish, for that matter.
  6. I'm glad to hear somebody else recommend Okuma. I have Solaris heavy, and has been terrific, but is a few years old, which I plan to augment with an EVX this year. You can get them for a little over $100
  7. We seldom missed a show, it's interesting how you seem to get a measure of somebody by watching them on tv. Condolences for his family, RIP.
  8. Just for starters, Lucky strike for plugs and stuff. Johnny Dadson makes bucktails that are supposed to be good, but I haven't tried them.
  9. Used to do a lot of upland game stuff, not much in the way of deer hunting, and shot trap and skeet, and some small bore target shooting, but these days mostly stick to fishing.
  10. I would start with something like a Shakespeare Agility 6'6" with maybe a Pflueger Trion for a lighter spinning rig, a large-arbour Spinning reel, (so many to choose from, it's hard to decide), with a 6'6" or 7' medium-heavy for a heavier spinning rig, maybe a Rapala R-Type; and an Okuma Guide Select, or a Shimano Cumara 7' medium heavy with a Revo S or SX; a selection of Ralapa HJ14 crankbaits, a couple of Cotton Cordell Big O's, some Rebel Crankbaits, some Senko stuff, Gulp Alive Leeches, and some sort of top water lure for fun. Then I would wait till the sales started in the spring, and augment as deemed necessary
  11. Beautiful combo, Bernie, Good for you to help keep some vintage stuff around!
  12. I lifted this from another site. It's a spanky-looking 3.4 ounce medium-action rod from Abu, due for a Sept '10 release. The price is supposed to be in the $US100 range. 10 guides, 6'6" not a lot of other info. I think it took some guts to go with a the white finish, though
  13. A2F, if you can figure out what weight crank baits you want to throw, and your budget, I think you'll get quite a few suggestions from the gang on the board here. That said, it looks like the Rapala makes a twp piece R-type. Subject to how much money you want to spend, that might be a good place to start. Cheers
  14. The kind Dad used to use! I started with one, but am happy to use the Mach 3 now. Am I missing something?
  15. Wow, nice rack indeed!
  16. Beertech, the knots you use might warrant some experimentation. I've never used anything as light as 8 lbs; I have 15 lb Fireline in my light spinner rig, and I find it great for the bass/pike/walleye fishing that I do. It's fine enough diameter, but strong enough that if it gets nicked, which happens, I can re-tie before I lose the lure. For my purposes, it's ideal, and I normally use either titanium or flouro leaders, subject to conditions, and what I'm fishing for. I love braid and don't use anything else anymore, but you have to pay a little attention, as others have said, to the condition of the line. When frayed, the stuff can lose pretty much all of its strength.
  17. Randy, this year, that bait on the right was absolute money for me with the pike..... Chris
  18. Cudz, you definitely win the prize for the most esoteric gear that doesn't work! Amazing that the Lucky Craft stuff hasn't produced: maybe if you spoke to them in Japanese they might do a little better for you?!
  19. Same here! I just didn't know what to think, but It didn't produce for me at all last year.I'm bound and determined to fish the thing 'till it works this year, though. The Wildeye shads did nothing for me, but the Kickin' Minnows were great. Go figure.
  20. I should make it Saturday. Can't wait!
  21. Lew, when we did our kitchen, we went with granite as opposed to Zodiac (Dupont), partly because it was less money, but mostly because of the more natural look of the stone. The quartz is a completely uniform surface, and we found we liked the irregularity of granite more. It'll take a little work finding the stone you want and matching the sheets, but if you like doing that sort of thing, you might be happier in the long run. It's a matter of taste, and budget. As far as sealing is concerned, I can't remember how long we went before re-sealing, but it was a number of years. Stains weren't a problem. Good luck!
  22. You seem like a good guy, but you're totally overshadowed by the company you keep, holdfast. Spike owns. Completely.
  23. "DISAPPOINTED!"
  24. Disco, are those DT- era Yammies? Takes me back!
