  1. join in anytime, I will be there for probably 2 hrs.
  2. Probably 4th gen for us Joe, maybe 5th for Chris K. and a few others though.
  3. How about tickets to some kind of concert/revue/opera? You would have to find out what she likes for that kind of thing. Its probably not an immediate gift, maybe 3-6 months down the road, but it could pay forward to acceptance of you being her future son in law
  4. 1st pic looks like the pullover just before Pays Plat First Nation. 2nd pic is definately the Jackpine River east of Nipigon, you gotta watch yourself when fishing the base of that slope, rocks are constantly coming loose. Don't want to get thocked in the head from even a small rock coming down that slope. I have had to dodge a few in my day, 3rd pic is Dorion, 45 min. east of Thunder Bay. Nice pics and report TJQ, too bad the hunting wasn't the best, but that happens. As for the wolf, we have lots of them up here now because of the previous exploding deer population. But, I have heard the deer are in decline now, probably because of the wolves, so the population should stabilize in the future. I still will not shoot one, no interest in the hide myself. Ya might wanna rethink the size of wood for that splitter though, it is Yardworks brand after all. Was that cut up wood from last year, it seemed to split too easy?
  5. Excellent Simon. I don't do all that, just use flour only and pan fry them, but might have to try that. I similarly fillet walleye, but not for the smaller ones less than 16". I just fillet them, the lateral bones when cooked become really soft and I never feel them when eating them. One thing I do though, I take the cheeks out of every walleye I catch and keep, no matter what size. They are tasty little morsels that have a different taste and texture.
  6. I'm gonna huff, and puff, and blow......... Who am I kidding, you are 1100 miles away from me, it will eventually get down your way Brian.
  7. It has been a warm and glorious September for us up here, but I knew it was not to last. After the first coffee jug this morning I noticed this, my Manitoba Maple tree in full bloom.
  8. In my limited(or long, since 1990) experience with truck tires, I will have to agree with Tybo, I have run Toyo Open Country's for years. Tried the BFG all terrains after my Toyo's got worn out after 6 yrs., but they didn't last 2 years, so went back to the Toyo's, which are still on my tired old truck. Run Hancock on my car, impressed. Michelin, no idea, never used them. Sure they have tire howl, but I just turn up the stereo  The tire howl the Toyo's make didn't compare to the Gateway Monster Mudders I had on an earlier truck when I was in a 4x4 club though, or the 38" Ground Hawg's a bud of mine ran. You could hear the howl of them 1/2 mile away :D
  9. Woke up to 0c temp with a light dusting. It will all be gone later today, but the onset of winter has arrived up here. TJQ, should be good for your foray up here in the next week. http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/...8_metric_e.html
  10. Oh, it was that cool down your way also Bernie? Didn't know that. I might have to put on a sweater before November gets here, lol
  11. Good deal, nice gun. Don't own one myself, I use either a 410 or my Ruger 10/22LR carbine for birds and rabbits. Probably not an issue with it not being fired for so long, just learn how to properly give it a good cleaning and oiling before firing it off after so long. I got lucky and scored a Winchester 94 lever action 30-30(like the ones in the John Wayne and other cowboy movies) from my uncle, and it had not been fired for over 40 yrs. He wanted to pass it down to his son, but my cousin was not interested in taking up hunting, then has suffered from MS. So, before the gun registry came into effect, he gave it to me and I registered it as mine(which it is legally). I cleaned and lubed it up, bought some ammo, and had a fun time sighting it in for deer hunting. Haven't actually shot a deer with it yet though, but hopefully sometime soon, usually just bring my Remington 7400 semi-auto 30-06, as we quite often moose and deer hunt on the same day.
  12. Yup, gotta love a brisk cold snap just before hunting season to get the animals moving.
  13. Years ago, before youtube I believe, I saw a guy on the internet doing the same thing. Neat stuff, just like the guy who does the sidewalk art that looks 3 dimensional at the right viewing angle.
  14. Well, after a September of un-seasonally warm temps, it all came to a halt today. We endured a wind storm with speeds of 50 kmh gusting up to 70 kmh Monday that brought down trees and power lines all over the city and area, and caused a bunch of failures of equipment at our local university that we are still dealing with. I wake up a bit late this morning. Look out the window, nice and clear(should have looked at the thermometer). Get one mug of coffee into me, shower, and fly out the door, to be greeted with a -3C temperature and a car with all windows frosted over, DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, where is the scraper again   Finally found one 5 minutes later(I have like, 6 of them around here somewhere)started the car, put heat on, rear window defroster on, scraped like mad, and got to work 4 minutes late, oh well. I'm guessing the first snow is not too far away.
  15. Yup!!!!!!!!! Never had one smoked though, should go after them in late August to try one that way.
  16. Yup, nice pictures Pikeie, and yes Dave, the accidental stocking took place up here in Thunder Bay. There was a small hatchery at the mouth of the Current River up here, and they accidentally dumped the entire stock into the river mouth. Don't know why they were raising pinks though, but back then, salmon were experimentally stocked into some inland lakes, so that could be the reason they were rearing them. I have a couple of old stocking lists from way back which mention salmon in inland lakes, but not species specific, so it's hard to be sure if they were pinks or not. Anyway, it did not work successfully. No recruitment took place. And the accidental dumping of the entire brood stock was probably the demise of the program. BTW Pikeie, they taste great, if they are still solid and even if they are darker colored. I have eaten my fair share of them in the past, just don't target them anymore when they are fresh into the rivers. I start river fishing for Coho's in late Sept. into early to mid Oct. Up here, the pinks are probably too far gone by now to be eatable.
  17. Nice pics Brian, but, will they still be there when you need them to be? It's amazing how when we scout out areas, and find lots of sign, when the time comes, NOTHING, ZERO, ZIP, NO ACTIVITY. Hope that does not happen for you though, looking forward to a successful hunting report.
  18. Very sincere condolences to you for the loss of your father Joey. I am also glad you got to fish with him just not too long ago. Cherish the memories.
  19. I use 5 gallon buckets with good lids, 3 or 4, adds 40 lbs. of weight per each bucket. And you can use the buckets when stacked to carry in extra gear. Also, a drift sock, or a small plastic washbucket off the nose of the boat if backtrolling, can really help keep the nose from swinging.
  20. How about a pc power supply? There are 750 watt and higher versions. Only problem is trying to figure out which wires are the On/Off switch, they usually just plug into the motherboard, and the switch on the front of the pc also plugs into the motherboard. Then, you have regulated 12V and 5V DC power, with extra connections available.
  21. Nice Dan, thanks for sharing.
