I'll take care of your bucktail.. I MEAN fox problem! "click-click"

Then explain to me how a steelhead in a creek knows to jut sideways if he sees your line coming at him cross-current? Or will inspect a roe bag with a line attached for minutes yet if you toss loose roe in they'll eat it up? In fact, if you remember my little stint in Peterborough the first time we met, at the tournament on the Lower Ottonabee.. Curtis and Reid won that tournament because I convinced them earlier in the week by example to use mono instead of straight braid in those clear waters. For 3 hours straight I caught bass after bass, good ones too, on straight mono. Reid had the exact same setup and caught maybe 2 bass. Curtis, well he never caught anything but musky.. but that's Curtis. LOL

My dad's still driving his '92 F-150. Never had any major problems with it. A truck that's 15 years old is bound to have small stuff, but nothing huge. It's been treated right which makes all the difference.

My new set-up and forthcoming fishing trip...
Rich replied to Billy - Curtiss's topic in General Discussion
It's like the difference between largemouth and smallmouth dude. Muskies = pike with roid rage I wouldn't be chasing them with a spinning combo, unless you're praying for 30 inch fish. -
It was a beautiful day today so Sugarpacket, Splenda and I took a walk through the park and downtown to enjoy the day (and stop at Dollarama again). Splenda had a ball as he is now learning to walk (soon comes the learning to use a fishing pole stage!). Anyway, before we left I stowed a fishing rod, some hooks & sinkers and a can of corn in the stroller.. because well, ya just never know. Even though the duck park for some reason this year has about 1/5000th the amount of carp it used to (don't know if they died off or what) you still see the odd little roamer around. Well today I just happened to notice a big brute (for simcoe duck park) up shallow and on the feed. I grabbed my rod as quick as possible and baited up as fast as I could. To my surprise the carp stayed in close while all this was going on and as soon as the corn hit the water he was on it! I can't say I've ever had a duck park carp fight as hard as this one did. It reminded me of a Lake Erie carp as it immediately peeled off probably 200ft of line. But I finally did subdue the beast. Sure for those of you who fish carp on Lake O or the Kawarthas this isn't much, but this for me is like pulling an 8lb bass from a koi pond. These carp rarely go over 5 pounds. This is the biggest I've seen in the duck park since I was about 10 years old. One thing we did notice was that this carp had an odd growth on it's snout. Not sure if it's a parasite or an old wound. And of course she was released to grow bigger and fight another day. So maybe the sudden lack of carp in the duck park has allowed the remaining ones to grow larger. I hope that is the case. Anyway, don't ever leave home without a fishing rod! If I would have seen that fish and not had my rod I'd be kicking myself in the teeth right now!

Legally, no. It needs to be on board, that's it. Common sense would state, yes - wear one. Both are very easy to tip.

My dad put super hot sauce on my fingertips that stopped me

I'm done guessing. Once again, the "raised over the head" angle is another misleading one, a Bob Izumi trick. It's big.

Hit Dollarama up the other day (figures I had very little cash on me at the time) and was very surprised to find they had Storm hair jigs and squid head hair jigs, as well as several packs of Storm lizards for a buck a pack! I bought as much as I could at the time, but wish I had run to the bank and got the rest cuz that was some good stuff for a good deal. I've never seen them carry anything but "Mako" tackle so there must have been a liquidation somewhere! Keep your eyes on your local Dollarama!

LOL I bet the rougher the water the bigger the fish!
-
Ahh well at 24 inches that makes the bass probably 7.2 with a girth like that.

I don't use a leader. If the water is gin clear and calm I use straight mono. For some lures it won't matter, but if you're tossing senkos or other slow moving, natural looking baits you'll want your presentation to match. Not too many live animals fall in the water with a black cord sticking out of their nose. lol

Hard to tell when it's 3 inches from the camera. It looks short and stubby, like an 18 inch fish with a 60 inch girth, LOL
-
Nice. You'll have to give us updates on the project as you go!
-
I don't know about "not going back"... I have braid on some rods, mono on others. There are times for both. I strongly believe that the visibility of braid makes a huge difference in clear, calm water. I won't even touch my braided rods in those conditions unless I'm tossing surface baits.

As long as you're not fishing in electrical storms, give 'er a go and find out!

They are safer than canoes and kayaks IMO. You just have to know your limits. Think of it like having a float tube. You wouldn't take a float tube in heavy current or areas with boat traffic, and you'd never travel in a float tube without a life jacket (at least I hope you wouldn't). The same general rules should apply to an inflatable boat. The exception is the Zodiac style boats which have heavy, hard floors and are rated for high horsepower engines. I see guys using them out of Port Dover on Lake Erie all the time. They actually seem pretty stable. I still prefer my 14' tinnie or my 10' car topper but if storage is an issue, inflatable is a good viable alternative.

Where's the spork?

They're expensive for the same reason Maple Leaf is more money than President's Choice.. you're paying for a name, and falling for the hype that they are softer and more salted than any other. Try BPS Stik-O's.

Perch, crappies and bluegills are my fav's.

As long as it's not chunks of gobies, let 'er rip!

They could allow 25 rods per person ice fishing, I'd still not catch anything. LOL
