  1. I cast them out texas rigged 90% of the time weightless and just let them sit like a live worm. Works great. If I don't get a hit, I slowly raise the bait about 8 inches and let it drop again. If there's a bass around, I rarely get past that part!
  2. I think the rule is to avoid deep hooked fish that you can't release. IE if you have a fish on one rod and play it out then grab the other rod to play the next fish.
  3. Ryan, I don't use the real senkos. I think I bought one pack once and found them to be garbage, they're destroyed after one fish and didn't work any better than my others. I use the BPS Stik-O's. Closest thing to a real senko and a lot easier on the bank account. Since I barely use them anyway one pack lasts me a season.
  4. Nice work boys!
  5. I can't believe you actually got them to bite in there! My friend's dad used to fish off the right side of the beach from shore and catch them. I've never got them to bite, especially from the boat. So you're definitely doing something right. As for the trees - try a baitcaster next time. Experienced carpers will advise against it, but it's the only way I've been able to land them around heavy cover like that.
  6. Hit up a local lake yesterday to shoot some video and it turned out to be a great day of bassin'. No trophy fish but one just under 4, a couple 3's and several between 1 - 3 pounds. Only one real dink. Fish were mostly caught on senkos but as evening hit the buzzbait bite was hot. Only took a couple of still pics you'll have to wait for the video for the full experience! Oh yeah also hooked a beat up looking white sucker on a grub in the middle of nowhere.. lol!
  7. They were probably attracted to the ugly hat on your head! Nice ones man.
  8. I really wish I didn't waste my time reading this thread.
  9. As long as he didn't use the vertical hold everything's fine

So do I Whopper, I've always tied the hooks direct on the line for added sensitivity and less chance of deep-hooked fish. Works great, but I like the dressings on those hooks. I think that would be great if there's a slight stain. I've also experimented when drift fishing for perch by putting small colorado blades on pickerel rigs. Works great in rough water.
  12. I believe Fishmaster posted some information about the Grand 'eyes stocking and tagging programs. I believe if you call the MNR and give them the tag number they can tell you where that fish was stocked, tagged, caught before, etc. Pretty cool that you caught one. And wow, you really did well on the 'eyes. I've never caught more than a dozen in a day on the Grand.
  13. For the Japanese, creating lures is art more than it is to catch fish. I highly doubt those 60 dollar poppers would work any better than a Pop-R. Something to put in a display case more likely.
  14. My dad and I fished a bass tournament on the bay and there was so much static in the air that we heard the WHIZZ off our rod tips as we cast and our lures stayed in the air for 20 - 30 seconds before hitting the water. Never been so scared in my life but we had too much money on the line to give in. We ended up hiding under a bridge until the storm passed, that way at least we still had a line in the water.
  15. Poaching, heck yah.. there are no rules in the south. I was carp fishing at my spot in December and a guy came up and asked me why I wasn't fishing for trout. I said "they're out of season" ... he looked at me, puzzled for a minute, then said "but.. the water temperature should be perfect." I can't tell you how many people I've seen while carp fishing that have wondered why I'm not fishing trout out of season. When I tell them why, they all say "who cares?" "No one gives a F**K around here" - both regular replies by the yocals I run into. Thank goodness I never see any of them with a fishing rod. I'd be on the phone to the MNR in a heartbeat. Not like the MNR would do anything about it but it's always worth a try. There are so many poaching stories I could tell.. oh man. I work with yocals. Worst one was a guy telling me he kept a big bass out of a pond in May because "he didn't have the heart to put it back" Grrrrrrrr time for BBR to move

Interesting. A little smaller hooks and I bet that would be a deadly Lake Erie perch rig! Thanks eh.
  18. Well after what seemed like an eternity without any fishing I managed to get out yesterday evening for a couple of hours at a spot a friend of mine showed me in the spring. There are trout and other species here, but I didn't want to play around with them, I just wanted carp. Reason being, they put a bend in the rod which I really needed! I ended up going 2/3 in an hour on little guys. Usually this spot has some pushing 10lbs which is big for the Lynn but they seemed smaller last night. Didn't both me a bit! Of course I took my camera crew along to follow the action. First fish I caught from under a culvert just about at my feet. After I jumped in to grab this one I figured I might as well keep wading. Sight-fishing from my "flippin' deck" Fish on! He's on the run! Headed back for the stumps Movin' him to my landing spot This little beast fought like a giant. Was quite fun fighting those little carp when they had so many obstructions to run to. That last one was a doozy. It ran for an undercut bank with a lot of roots, then for a stump, then for a bush that fell in the water. I had a heckuva time making sure he didn't snag me up. Lots of fun!! Can't wait to get out again. Work sucks.
  19. Same as Caledonia for species. Bass, Walleye, Pike, Crappies, Carp and catfish all readily available if you're up for a day of wading. I gotta say ditto on the wading stick though. There are a lotta deep spots that way, they come up on ya quick.

I keep reading it in all your reports. I'm sure you've explained before, but I musta missed it. What in WGSF's name is a Sabiki rig?
  21. Onions IMO
  22. Good luck. I'm sure the MNR would put serious thought into this issue. The serious thought being: whether to recycle the letter, or put it in the trash.
  23. Get a certificate for meat cutting!
