  1. Latest forecast is calling for snow flurries tonight! Tomorrow won't be much better.. Don't worry about black flies - an ice auger might be more useful Why does the weather always suck on victoria day weekend? it's really very strange cause I got caught in snow on several occasions over the years... We really have the strangest weather...it was 28'C two weeks ago in Muskoka!
  2. Just a "FYI" I don't think you can use pike as bait.
  3. What size Cleo's you guys use? 1/4 oz or smaller?
  4. Those are beauts!! What is your opinion on the state of the chinook fishery these days? Are the numbers and sizes still there?
  5. Hey folks, What are your favourite brook trout spoons? I like the Gold William Wabler (i think it's 2.5"). I also like the EPG's(sp?) - it's a black, gold and spotted spoon but not easy to find nor cheap! I'm interested to know what else you folks use to troll and/or cast to brookies? Has anyone tried trolling a spinner while canoeing or does this lead to a lot of line spin?
  6. Definitely false morels... the morels are out in full force now... Fortunately, the false are easily distinguisable from te black and yellow morels which are delicacies! BTW, I am interested to know about the gas motor set up. I am looking for a 2HP. Which bracket did u buy? Is it stable? What kind of speed can you attain? It's not overpower is it? thanks!
  7. Ya, I'm leaning toward a 2 HP -- Is there a big diff in weight? Hard to find them...
  8. The War of 1812 was acrually won by the British! Canada didn't even exist as a nation at the time - and we didn't make a move w/o British approval until about the WWII! Then we had to listen to another master... Unky Sam... it ain't so bad being a colony of two great empires! Walleye, pickerel.. what's the diff?!
  9. FYI a number of Atlantics have been caught and positively ID this spring in Lake O
  10. Thanks guys... they 4HP motor I am thinking of buying weighs 35lb and incorporates the gas tank into the motor. I can easily counter-balance with gear and/or ballast of some sort, I suppose.. I was just worried that a 4HP is too much power... i'll bet the canoe would plane!! lol! Suppose I don't have to gun it.. Thanks much and I will look for the mounts on the net before going new
  11. I would kill to know that spot... can't be too far north... Turkey pic gave that away! Hmm...
  12. Any thoughts/comments on these old motors? Can one still find parts? Were they known a reliable? Thanks!
  13. Hey folks, Was wondering if anyone has an opinion of, or experience with, the 'Old Town' canoe motor mounts or motor mounts in general for canoes. Are they worth the money? Can u actually mount a 2 or 3 hp motor on one? Do they create an imbalance in the boat if your cruising solo? Thanks in advance!
  14. We're seeing more and more Atlantics coming out of Lake O. I've seen a few this spring already on the salmon board... Looks like the stockig program is starting to work! That's a healthy looking fish... We'll be lucky if these things take... fantastic fighters...
  15. Now if only Quebec would give us back the 10's of billions we've given them to protect their language and culture and day care programs!! that'd be something, huh? lol
  16. U suck, Coke Heads!! Laperiere's an idiot GO BRUINS!! 3 more quick games...
  17. Ya just like the Habs did for 5 consecutive years, from 98-2003, right? they'll be golfing in 7 days..
  18. Interestig... It's odd that so few people in Ontario target cats... In the states there's a cult following this looks to be a pretty good fishery... Are many people fishing for them?
  19. I agree.. the wolves help keep it all in balance.. how ome i hear some hunters complain that there are fewer dear the days?!!
  20. Where r the wolves?
  21. Interesting.. so ha this been proven scientifically or is it anecdotal? BTW, why don't you think the chinny is worth stocking? What makes browns that much more appealing? they certainly don't fight as well as a king... And if my memory serves me correctly, the Chinny was king in the 80s! size and numbers were outstanding and 40+ were caught annually. It was a true trophy fishery back then.., just my humble opinion!
  22. looks more like an owl... look at the ears... cool shot
  23. "cleaning up the lake" is gonna require a lot more money tha they throw at this atlantic program... i'm also on the fence... lots of people have bashed the re-introduction attempt but I've heard that atlantics are amazing fighters... let me re-phrase that... i know they are from a some limited experience. A few yrs ago I was fishing in my favourite creek targeting specks and browns. It's a river that has received alot of the atlantics over the years. Well, on this day I ended up hooking and mostly landing at least 15 to 20 atlantics... small but incredibly fiesty.. fought like 3 lb fish but they were only 9-11 inchs long. They were silver bullets, jumping clear out of the water... just a blast to catch and a lot mre fun than catching the brookies nd browns, quite frankly.. it was a memorable day and regrettably i haven no pics to prove this! But anyone who's familiar with the stocking program proably has an idea as to where I was fishing.. I did catch a few more the following year, ut I haven't returned to the spot the past two yrs..will be back this year for sure, with a camera all were released.. i wonder how many survived and made it to the lake...?
  24. looks fishable to me
  25. That pike's fatter than my last girlfriend's ass...
