A few years back I was fishing a shoreline just after dusk with my girlfriend. Darkness was just about to fall when we heard loud cracking noises somewhere in the bush, but seemingly pretty close to the shoreline as well. The noises were similar, not exact, to what you described; regular intervals of spaced out cracking sounds that are loud enough to echo. We immediately began spouting theories as to the culprit of this disturbance, thinking it had to be something big enough to make those sounds. A few minutes later we saw the outline of a beaver dragging a small tree disappear into the dark lake. Mystery solved, but often when it comes to the unknown, our minds trick us with logical fallacies and we make assumptions. I'm not saying your friend is wrong, or exaggerating, just that our own minds are usually responsible for these kinds of things. We have had multiple moose walk between cars and (somehow) through a volleyball net and proceed into thick bush as we watch and listen. It's surprising how nimble they can be... but then again, their survival depends on it.

Lookin good. The extra detail on the stash should drive the bass crazy -
awesome fish!! It's nice catching big fish a variety of different ways isn't it? Thanks for the report

Haha yeah those super shallow cranks always do pretty well for me. I think a big part of why I use them is to see the fish come up and hammer them from beneath, often jumping out of the water on the hit. The lake is very shallow and weedy as well Ah just short of a nickel, most likely. I guess I'll just have to get back out there in search of a 5er smallie. Cheers!

Haha funny enough, I have used the smallest size pumkinseed crank for 2 years now, but I upgraded to a bigger one this year and it got chewed apart from all the small smallies this weekend. I'm definitely a fan

Oops thought I mentioned... she was 21". I wish I had a scale to weigh her as well. Any guess as to how much she weighs?

Great report! Looks like the bass were especially hungry this year.

I hope to smash a few bass on the fly rod soon! What patterns are you using? Looks like egg sucking leech. I toss flies in still water and find small bright streamer patterns to work best other than poppers. Looks like a nice opener

awesome shots!! :clapping:

My typical bass opener usually goes like this: Start super excited to crack out new tackle accumulated while hibernating. Make plans, start bright and early. 7 minutes in, the motor starts cutting out, I lose my precious, expensive new crankbait on a log, and I catch an endless supply of 6-10 inch bass, while the hogs elude me. This was not a typical bass opener!!! Despite a very buggy weekend at the cottage, I managed to get out for a morning on Sat and a few more hours on Sunday for some bass fishing. Right off the bat I got a huge topwater hit and landed a nice 17". I was out with my brother and he forgot the camera so I don't have pics from Sat. He got two that were 15" and 16" and we called it in after only an hour or two. There was a lot of work to do at the cottage too so we didn't have much time to fish on Sat. Sunday morning my GF bailed on me (opting to stay in a cozy bed, as usual) and I set out solo. I trolled for a while with nothing biting and decided so drift with the wind down a shoreline littered with fallen trees. The decision would pay off as I hooked into this hog, which for it's mass can surprisingly jump pretty high. I booted it to a nearby island with rocks to set up a self timer. I knew it tied my PB and I needed a solid pic, and it swam back in the direction it came like a bullet healthy and ready to go again next weekend. Enjoy! One of several ~17", but all were very fat Every single fish was full of black spots The bait of choice! Cheers!

I have a hard time believing that 'terrorists' wore Canucks jerseys (that they bought for this occasion and would never have worn otherwise, i.e. NOT FANS) and caused all of this mayhem. I understand it is premature to typecast Canuck fans based on the limited media coverage that we see, but anyone argueing that this is NOT disgraceful needs a serious reality check. Gee, I'm sorry that all of Canada, scratch that, North America (if not the world) thinks the people of VC are hooligans. It's not like we watched a relatively small city decline into social chaos last night. Again, any educated person will hastily avoid typecasting all Canuck fans as renegage rioters, but for gods sake how can anyone defend the city of Vancouver? It's ok guys, someone made a facebook group... Did you see the video of of the guy defending the Bay, who gets pulled into the horde and beaten from all angles? Was this Al-Quaida, or another 'terrorist' organization? No.. It was Jim and Suzy from next door. I'm really sorry your feelings are hurt, City of Vancouver, but quite frankly you look like fools and with good reason. Enjoy cleaning up after your own babies.

this is novel, creative and outstanding. Keep em coming!!!!!

Funny... I said the exact same thing about Montreal when they embarrassed themselves last year. At least during the G20, the vast majority of rioters were from out of town.

Wow that is awesome! You should make one in red

I know that some people who ski there also ice fish in the winter. I think an ad for a guide said perch and pike at least in Lac Tremblant. I know there is a fly-only section of a river within 10 min drive from the hill, although I forget the name of the river. I think it might be the one that feeds into lac tremblant. Chances are if it's maintained as fly only, the fishing is pretty good. Probably not feasible since you are fishing with family but I figured I'd mention it.

I own a 7'0 Clarus that I use as a backup/crankbait rod. For the money, it's hard to find a better rod. I'm a fan of buying long lasting, quality gear and spending a bit more for piece of mind, but as a gift this is a great rod.
